Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them.     Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have a almost 40lb female albino boa who I am switching over to rabbits. I can pick up local raised 3-4lb rabbits for under $1 a piece. I have tried everything other than live. I even put the rabbit in with some rats to get the smell on her and still nothing. Any other thoughts on how to stimulate her appetite? If I put a rat in then she's happy as a camper.

I had a bag of collosals that I needed to thaw out so I put the rabbit in the bag with them and allowed them all to thaw together. I then moved the bag around so that there was maximum contact with the rats. I held her with thongs and proceeded to do the little bunny fufu dance but she simply did not want anything to do with her. As a matter of fact, she hissed at the rabbit. I thought if I could at least get a defensive strike that she would take her but no luck. Here's a few pics of her.

feed her the rat, then, as the last of it is going down, introduce the head of the rabbit. It is a bit more time consuming than just tossing food in, but it gets the new prey item in. After doing this a few times, instead of running the rabbit in with the rat, just offer it to her as the rat's tail is going in. frequently, once in feeding mode, they are somewhat less picky...esp if they have taken the item before via the previously described method. Patience is key here, but will prevail (It took me a few -ok, 6 or 7 - years, but I finally got my diamond intergrade to take rats without gerbils). Another option is to suture the bunny to the rat...I know my vet prefers that one.
 
one other thing - when you get to the second step...it is a good idea to have a 2nd rat on hand just in case. In my experience, the taking of the (less desired) 2nd item is hit and miss - they may take it a few times, then pass for a bunch.
 
Well, I had made up my mind that I would at least leave the bunny in there for a few hours. I had checked with my wife around hour 5 and it was still there. When I came home an hour later the bunny was gone. Hopefully in a few weeks she will take the next one a bit quicker! Thanks for the help!

Anyway, glad she decided to take the wabbit, and she's certainly a big and beautiful girl!!! :)

Suturing the wabbit to the wat....I'd never heard that idea before, good idea!
