    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I've posted this twice now, but I finally have the name of the person in question, thanks to Michael Brown. I came across a craigslist ad for a redfoot tortoise today in Nashville. The ad can be seen here http://nashville.craigslist.org/pet/5717547348.html. I confronted the owner about the terrible condition of their tortoise, and offered to take it from the, for no charge, and provide it with proper care. They were extremely rude to me, and insisted that their animal was in perfect health. They called me retarded and threatened to take me to court. I then posted a "beware" ad on Craigslist warning potential buyers. Feel free to contact the ad poster with your thoughts on their animal. This can be done by clicking on the "reply' option in the top left corner of their ad. I will post screenshots of the text messages, as well as their ad, and my beware ad as soon as I can figure out how. Thanks again to Michael Brown, and I, personally wouldn't patronize this particular business, either by purchasing animals, or using their "petting zoo" party service. My texts with Shelby can be seen below...

Thank you to everyone who helped me format my boi posts, seeing as I'm new to this, and a special thanks to Michael Brown for finding out the full name and business of the ads poster. It saddens me that this animal may continue to be poorly cared for, but sadly I cannot justify spending $200 on such a damaged animal.

Even though the thread is locked, you can see from my conversation with her that she is looking for $200 OBO, and is apparently selling the animal for her grandmother. Her claim to have a "wildlife biology degree", is somewhat far fetched based on her age (21 y/o allegedly). I took a look at her Facebook (easily / publicly available with the name provided). And it would appear she is just a kid trying to make the sale for a family member (just an assumption). I would also (for the slow folk like myself) like to make it very clear that I was inquiring about the animal and "baiting" responses for the sole purpose of gathering some additional useful information. I am not, and was not interested in anything more than gathering information.

I doubt she will ever get on this website, but honestly if I was going to make a local sale (craigslist or what have you) I would check the BOI first. So on the off chance someone local checks BOI before interacting with this person in person, hopefully it helps.

That POOR ANIMAL! People like this REALLY get me steamed!!! It is, IMO, criminal that this animal how OBVIOUSLY been neglected! And to ask $200 OBO for it is absolutely despicable! GRRRR!!!!!

As far as her "Wildlife Buology" degree, I would love to see the course catalogue that she used to build her course credits! I call Shenanigans!!!:NoNo:

Thank you for posting this Alex and having the courage to speak up. I think you did a great job communicating your concerns. Every time a good person speaks up for the animals who have no voice, it helps, even if you can't save that particular animal at that moment.

As for her threats of legal action and calling the sheriff...HIGHLY unlikely. #1 you didn't "harass" her; you pointed out the deplorable condition of the animal. #2 you didn't slander her at all, what you said was the truth based on the picture of the animal. #3 lawyers are very expensive and she would have to retain one, then prove that what you said was false, and that you did it maliciously, and that she had some kind of financial harm. #4 the sheriff has better things to do than police CL, and if they did get involved, it would probably be related to neglect of the animal she is selling.

So I would bet those are just empty threats, especially since CL (last I checked) does not allow animal sales and she's skirting that issue by charging a "rehoming" fee. So she is just bullying you and trying to shut you up.

Any responsible, ethical animal owner should have absolutely zero problem answering questions and concerns about their animals' care and condition. It's when someone has something to hide that they lash out and try to keep you quiet.

What a horrible thing to do to any tortoise! I am no expert on torts but even I can see what terrible condition its in! That seller should be ashamed! Thank your for the heads up OP.

BTW, even I with my humble bachelor's degree in wildlife biology would know this animal is malnourished and neglected. :face_palm_02:

I know that it's unlikely that anyone will have any interactions with Party Animals Inc., but I think that the condition of the animal was worth posting in the BOI, just in case. Thanks for everyone's support and input!
