    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Shelf-line as a substrate.

I have been using shelf-liner for the substrate in my 20 gal tank recently (that houses 2 of my leos) with no issues whatsoever that I have noticed. I recently read in another forum that it is unsafe to use shelf-liner because it can be toxic? Anyone have an opinion on this subject, because now I am starting to wonder if I should change the substrate.
 
does it have any kind of glue, self stick adhesive? also some types have a built in "bug kill" be carefull! Why not just use unbleached paper....or better yet that rare substrate "Nothing" (with a tile, marble, granite etc...or flat stone)
 
The kind I use says it's Non-Adhesive. Called Prints Grip Liner by Con-Tact.
 
i can't answear your question but i can suggest you to use tile, it costs more or the same as shelf liner but i think it'd be easy to clean (just remove the dirty tile and wash it off) and it's one of the safest subtrate I can think of, besides paper towels
 
shelf liner has worked fine for me for atleast 6 months now for various reptiles. simple to clean if you clean up immediatly. with my leo's i put a piece of plain white paper towel in their favorite corner and just remove that every other day. once every week or two i wash the shelf liner completly and put it back in once it dries.
 
Alright thanks...While I have heard that shelf-liner is fine for substrate I was a little alarmed by what I had read discouraging its use. Perhaps I will look into tile, otherwise I will keep things the way they are to avoid undo stress.
