In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

C & S Reptiles

I recently purchased a breeding pair of crested geckos from this dealer and one of them (the male) was DOA. There were no holes in the box for them to breathe and they shipped them Fed Ex (no animals are shipped through there).... has anyone ever had a bad experience with them before? I've contacted him for a refund and he refuses to do ANYTHING. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
~Sarah~

We don't usually puncture holes in reptile shipments we send out. And shipping via FedEx is usually not that big of a deal (more of a party foul as it's against company policy without a letter of exception as opposed to against the law). Few hobbyists can afford the daily pickup account for a limited number of shipments per year so bend the rules in this sense.

Give us the details though (contact info for C & S, timeline of events etc) as someone that won't cover their animals for alive delivery (providing there isn't something else going on with the transaction) is one to be avoided. :(

I am so very sorry to hear about your DOA male.
I agree with the previous post, please share some details, etc.
Everyone I know uses Fed Ex, even if it being a party foul, and also, almost every box I have received with snakes didn't have air holes. Air is still able to get in the packages, even though it may not seem like it. I say this cause there probably is another reason that the male died.

Again....I am very sorry and please tell us more. Take care!

DOA male

I was talking to this person for awhile about the breeding pair that he had an ad for. I agreed to pay him $200 for the pair and $20 for shipping. I tried to take the price of the pair down b/c I had another person offering me a breeding pair at $150 + shipping. He didn't take the price down, but I decided to get them anyway.
I sent him the money via Paypal and didn't hear from him in 3 days. I finally heard from him and he agreed to ship the geckos that Monday. They were shipped overnight and arrived Tuesday morning at 10:30 am. I signed for the package and had butterflies when I opened it. Sadly, the first gecko I took out was the male and he was dead. I was so upset, and I quickly looked for the female (wanting to see her, but not, you know?)...she turned out to be alive, but very frightened. I put her in her new enclosure, and called Shiloh.
His girlfriend answered the phone and I heard him in the background. (He was in the shower.) She told him that a gecko was dead and he started cussing like crazy. (understandable) He told her that he "couldn't take a hit on this" and picked up the phone to talk to me. I told him what had happened, that they had just arrived, etc. He said he'd talk to his business partner.
I didn't hear anything for a while and then he e-mailed me, saying that he was not going to be held responsible since Paypal had charged him a $7 fee (I had asked him before if he took paypal and he said "yes"...he didn't ask for any additional money) and since shipping was $31 instead of $20 (once again, I had asked him the cost of shipping and I had paid it). That he was sorry, but he wouldn't do anything. I asked him if proof of the dead gecko would help me at all (he was in my freezer and still is). I asked him if he wanted me to ship it to him, but he told me to just send him a picture.
I got my friend to take a digital photo of him and send it to him. Ever since, he's been very irrate and saying that he won't do anything. He's flat-out told me that my e-mails are irritating him and that he'll draw me into a legal battle. (that he's contacted a lawyer, etc.) All I want is either:
a.) my money back for the male gecko...they're worth less so I'd take $75
b.) a replacement gecko
I haven't been the slightest bit rude to him, other than to say that I've never had this happen before.
Any advice???

hi sarah, i just got into a simular situtaion with a breeder. contact paypal immediately since they are the one you used for the payment. let them know what has happened, they are really fast and they will be able to help you. i was recently scammed by willy@mrbigzsnakes, and paypal got my money back for me the same day. paypal will also suspend their account which will really piss c&s off. paypal will contact c&s right away, they dont mess around.
i hope this helps you out. you can contact me at [email protected] if you want some more help.
good luck!! karl

Couple things . . .

If you can get the actual dates and raw data specifics about the deal, including some pics fo the DOA cham, that would be a big help, Sarah. Also, a pic of the box in which the chams came would be helpful to determine if this DOA was due to improper shipping/packaging methods. It will help us help you, so whatever you can post will be great!

Also, assuming that what you have told us here is 100% accurate (I have NO reason to doubt you, but we haven't got all of the details yet, and that may color the picture a bit one way or the other) it doesn't make a bit of difference that the PayPal charged him $7, that what they always do when you're the seller. It would be wrong for him to ask you to cover that expense, too, but that's another rant I won't start. Nor does it matter that he quoted you too low a price on the shipping. It's his fault for being uninformed and unprepared to quote the actual cost of the business end of the deal.

He owes a full refund on that DOA male. It doesn't matter that another guy is selling his for $75; you paid this guy $100, and that is what he owes you! It doesn't matter that he "can't take a hit" on this deal, either! If you can't afford to take care of the problems that inevitably WILL Occur in dealing in living animals, STOP SELLING THEM!!!!!!!!

Finally, we need th full contact information on this guy: full name, address, email address, etc. That way he can be contacted to a) reply to this thread (both sides of the story is always good to have), and b) we will recognize him for who he is in future deal possibilities, if he is proven to be a bad guy.

Sorry about your DOA loss!

Just curious. Do the sellers have a website and, if so, is their a Terms page? Also, was a liva arrival guaranty discussed prior to shipping?

Re: c & s

Contacting PayPal is fine, but DO NOT tell them the disputed deal is over live animals. They are not covered in their guarantees, so they won't lift a finger to help you at that point.

After reading your post, one gets the feeling that this person is trying to intimidate you into not persuing anything. I think some of the other people who posted suggestions are correct. Contact PayPal, get your money back, and put the burden on his shoulders . Secondly, Cresteds are not the kind of gecko that are that difficult to obtain from many sources, more reasonably priced and from dealers who stand behind their product. If you need any additional help, please contact me at [email protected] . Dont let this guy intimidate you. JERRY TRESSER

Dealer's info

The dealer's name is Shiloh Dorsett. His e-mail is [email protected] and his website is www.geocities.com/sjderis I contacted Paypal already but they haven't done anything so far and it's already been a while. I contacted them on the 17th.
As for the dates, I paid him using paypal on the 13th. The geckos were shipped on the 15th and arrived on the 17th at 10:30 am.
I still haven't heard anything from him.
Also, since I haven't heard anything, should I contact Paypal again? I'm so upset, I REALLY wanted these guys!
~Sarah~
P.S. I have the digital photos of the gecko, but don't know how to put them on here. I can e-mail them to whoever wants to see that there really is a dead gecko. :-(

All animal shipments are shipped UPS Red or Fed Ex Priority overnight directly to your door. Live arrival can only be guaranteed when temps. in route are between 30-90 degrees. We are not responsible for carrier delays and claims due to carrier error are to be handled by the carrier and can be avoided by purchasing insurance on the items purchased.

Those are the terms listed on his website. Do you know what the temps were during the time they were in transit?
Not that it should matter....the shipper should be responsible for checking temps before shipping and he should have given you a warning and the option to delay shipment if the temps were extreme.

Name ONE carrier that will insure live animals?

Yes, it is the Shiloh in Arizona. I'm not trying to be a hassle, I just want a refund of some kind. That's alot of money to lose.

I contacted Paypal on the 16th and still haven't heard anything. *sighs* All I wanted were a few cute babies, eventually. Too bad it had to turn into this, you know?

Shiloh Dorsett in Arizona.

Well it doesn't suprise me that I'm seeing this guys name on a bad guy post. He had ordered 1,200.00 worth of animals from me back in Janurary. He told me that he had a postal money order in the mail. A week later I called him and he told me that for some reason it was returned to sender and that he would send it back out. Another week passed and still no money. I called him again @ 10:00am on a Saturday. He picked up the phone and immediately said "its the weekend don't call here again". I waited until the following Monday called and told him that I do not want him to reply to any of my ads on KS because I am not interested in doing business wth him. He gave me some lame excuse that he was moving out of state.....well it's funny that he's still in Arizona. He was very rude and unprofessional on the phone. I would not recommend this guy to build a chicken coop!
Just my expirence.
