In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I am a one time shipper and was wondering...does UPS ask what you are shipping? And anyone know if the scan boxes? And what is the pentaly for doing this?

Thanks

Brian

No they dont typically ask.

Yes they have the right to open and inspect any package that you send through them. As does every other shipping company.

Depends on what you are shipping. Different laws and penalties for different species.

Let me ask another question....has anyone shipped a large snake UPS and just told them that it was something else?

No.

Just get certified through FedEX. They dont turn anyone down. Doing this illegally is what gives the reptile industry a bad name and is going to bring heavy legislation down on us all.

Keep in mind that not labeling the contents accurately is more than a violation of UPS rules - It is also a violation of the Lacey Act (read: federal law). Yes, people have shipped snakes via UPS without them knowing it...BUT, UPS can open the package at any point, as well as stop its progress. I don't know how large a snake you are talking about, but bigger ones aren't particularly good at staying quiet when they move around inside a box. Think about that phone call, from any of the stops along the way, telling you that they will not ship your snake any further (because they don't ship snakes and you knew that or you wouldn't have lied about it). Neither you or your customer would be pleased with that one...not to mention the headaches it would cause a whole host of other people.

I'm not sure if it's just my town, but here UPS will ask you for a description of the goods your are shipping. Privacy? None.

Regards.

Not just your town, Dan. When you prepare the shipment (paperwork) at UPS, there is a line that requests that information. Anytime I have left it blank or was very vague (LIVE HARMLESS REPTILE, for example), I was asked by the counterperson.

In my opinion one's privacy has to be respected. It seems they are crossing the line there. I'm obviously not making reference to shipping live animals, but it seems out of line to inquiry what is it that you are shipping. If you look at USPS and FedEx policy they just ask if the contents are dangerous, that should be enough.

Regards.

Private enterprise Dan. If you want to use their service, you have to jump through their hoops.

Personally I have been very pleased with Fedex
