In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I'm panicking so if anyone is awake now and can answer this: what is going to happen to packages sent out yesterday, overnight, into the north east?

I'm expecting a package that was already delayed because of a mistake by the seller, who then shipped at 5:30pm yesterday.

I'm not sure how I feel about this... my first worry is for the life of the animal, but then I think to myself: by 5:30pm there was a blackout from new york down to ohio- did it actually not make the news somewhere on this coast quick enough for the shipper to realise that they were sending a package into a panick area?

Either way, I had to wait up until power came back on just now at 3am in order to a) check that the package was shipped and b) set my alarm to wake up to recieve it in 4 hours.

I'm not happy right now with any of this situation....

Whether it made the news or not, it's possible he didn't know about it. I just heard about it myself an hour and a half ago.

While it may be delivered today, I wouldn't be surprised if it's delayed since they grounded all flights in the affected areas.
Not much you can do now but keep an eye on the tracking number and wait and see.

Okay, I'll give the seller the benefit of the doubt, but how could UPS not have already been aware of it? This is the biggest blackout the United States has seen in the last 30 years.

According to UPS tracking the package has arrived and just departed from PA. I don't know if that's the normal route or if it was rerouted because of the problems.

Hopefully everything works out...

I'm in NC and heard about it around 5 yesterday evening. You may want to call UPS and see if they can hold the package anywhere and you drive to pick it up if they can't guarentee that it will be delivered by a certain point.

Good Luck in whatever happens!

Well she JUST got here, 4:30pm. She's listless, but striking, so I suppose that's a good sign!

It was actually the biggest blackout in history they said! Glad to hear she made it alright.

Glad She Made It!

What is she? If you don't mind me asking.
I too was beginning to worry because it was getting late and it's the weekend.
You probably didn't have to worry about the heat. I think it's high 80's everywhere in the east.

I didnt even realize it until now but I shipped to a blackout area yesterday as well and recieved a package from there, it worked out alright for me.

Steve,

Okay, I'll give the seller the benefit of the doubt, but how could UPS not have already been aware of it?

Your quote above makes me think that UPS was aware of the contents of the package; and implies they should have known better than to accept shipment or to have held it somewhere safe.

Your next quote makes me wonder if it was a snake that was shipped. I am guessing a snake because when you use the word striking in combination with listless, I get the impression you mean striking as in attempting to bite and not striking as in fantastically beautiful.

She's listless, but striking, so I suppose that's a good sign!

Now, if it was a snake, I kind of doubt that the shipper let UPS know what was inside the box as I don't think UPS allows all that many people to ship snakes.

Regardless of all that, it is nice to hear that whatever it was made it to you alive. It likely would have arrived listless in any event due to the high heat, unless of course the shipper included cool packs inside the shipping container to keep the temps down (and even then shipping can be risky when it is so warm outside). I figure it this way, blackout or no blackout you were lucky to receive a live (and I repeat a LIVE) herp that was shipped when temperatures were in excess of 90 degrees Fahrenheit. No matter how fast they get shipped, they get to sit in the back of a UPS truck (which in my opinion is akin to a DARK BROWN toaster oven on wheels) while they await delivery at your doorstep. That snake may have been in the back of that truck for hours - and probably was since you only got it at 4:30 PM. Just think how hot it gets in a car out in the sun on a day like today, and then think again about a big brown toaster oven on wheels. You might want to consider the forecast temps before the next time you have a herp shipped to you; safer for the herp and less worrisome for you.

Hopefully the critter will make it. I echo the curiosity: What is it?

Best regards,
Glenn B

It is indeed a boa.

The box was shipped without styrofoam, without a cold pack, without live/perishable/anything labeled.

"Out for delivery" apparently only means that the trucks are being loaded. I'm told that the drivers didn't get out until around noon today. I asked the driver what took so long when he delivered it (since he had not called UPS to report in either despite being asked to according to my queries) and he just laughed it off.

I'm not sure I want to name the seller, as it seems to be a freak incident among glowing reports.

The snake was fed on saturday, I paid for it sunday and the seller felt (rightly) that they should delay shipping for a few days. We decided on Wednesday to ship. Thursday at around 11am I get an email saying they did not ship because of a "breakdown in communication" to which I asked them to simply ship at their earliest convenience. They shipped out Thursday at 5:30.
It was impossible to anticipate the blackout, although shipping is always risky on Thursday and I really am annoyed at the packing used.

I recieved my snake after much anguish, and I'm letting her adjust and destress for a week. Here's hoping all goes well....

I would not list the name but I would also not buy from them again because of their poor shipping style.
