    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Some of you may want to know that you can ship snakes through FedEx.
You may not do it unless you become registered. You will have to send them one of your shipping boxes to be tested. I just sent them a box with the containers inside. It has to take a fair amount of pressure. They test the strength of the box. There are also some waivers you will have to sign.

There is some paperwork to fill out. Scott can email you the forms and you can print them out. You will be able to ship all kinds of reptiles but not venemous.

Actually there is already a thread around here somewhere, that gives step by step instructions on how to do that. Though I think that one has a different contact person, not 100% sure though. Several people have become certified to ship, so "we're" pretty excited about it. It's nice to have another legal way to ship snakes.
Saw you signed up, and was talking to Ron G., he says hey.
 
the "contact person" will vary, depending on where you are - it is the account rep you are assigned when you open your FedEx account. Some are better than others, apparently, as some people have had a difficult time getting paperwork to get the ball rolling. The entire process only took me a few weeks.

True, but the good thing about the other thread was, it gave the contact info for the person who knows about this new policy, in case your local/regional rep didn't know what was going on.
 
The reason I brought this up is that I saw on the BOI furum that people seemded to be very confused. Every post said that it was illegal to ship snakes through FedEx. They did not mention that there was a way to get an OK to ship via FedEx. I have been around long enough to see the other posts I guess. Anyway never hurts to bring it up. Apparently some people never saw that post. The BOI post was the one on Dan and boas shipped imporperly, and so on. Thanks for the replies...Ric Blair

Some people are confused - because the whole shipping thing is a jumbled mess. There is a distinct lack of consistency and communication at several levels. Even with the current policy, some FedEx offices have told certified shippers that they do not ship reptiles (lack of info, or lack of interest??). UPS clearly states that they do not accept snakes...but many major dealers/breeders use them exclusively with no problems. DHL just sucks - oops, I meant to say that DHL also has a policy that states they do not ship live animals. This is a change, and many shippers were notified of the change in policy and told that DHL would no longer accept their packages. In other areas, DHL might be the only one that knowingly accepts a box containing snakes. In any event, it is not illegal to ship snakes with any of the 3...just a TOS violation (albeit, a violation that could mean the package never reaches its destination).
 
One question, when shipping FedEx I believe per the TOS (the last time I checked) they will only ship live reptiles and/or snakes to a business address. I'm guessing most purchases will be requesting delivery to a home address. Do you only use FedEx for your business sales? I've not bothered to get FedEx certified because of this reason.
 
You'd be surprised at how many home businesses there are out there, lol. Also, you can have the package held at FedEx for pickup...although not as convenient, it does save alot of truck time and keeps the critters in a controlled environment. (well it saves alot of truck time for me, as the closest FedEx is the local sort facility)
 
On average how much does it cost to properly box, and ship a snake? I am selling a few ball pythons and have never shipped before, and I really just want to get it right the first time.

i would say about $7 for the box, snake bag, and heat/cold pack (if necessary). for shipping, i would say the shipping costs around $40-60. unless things have changed since i've last looked... fedex is now the only legal way to ship, as you can go through a certification process to get approved on shipping certain reptiles. of course there are certain exceptions. i'd inquire more in the shipping forum if i were you.
