In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....
Not only that, there's a reason that you have to be certified to ship with fed-ex. You have to prove to them that you can package and ship a snake properly. Now SYRs is saying that people who are not certified can ship. This is really the last shipping option, besides delta, and I see some jerk already messing it up.

We're all really lucky that Repster didn't ruin the FedEx certification program for everyone. Now we're going to have to worry about SYR.

No one needs SYR to ship FedEx. My FedEx rates are maybe $2 more then the UPS rates I was getting from ReptilesExpress. You just need to point it out to your sales rep and they will make adjustments.

I normally wouldn't trust ups to ship a lollipop but so far going thru SYR I haven't had any problems that were there fault. I do recommend finding an actual UPS store to drop your packages off as several friends of mine have had problems dropping them at the office supply stores and such. I will say this though, I had someone try to steal my reptiles in a trade by claiming they didn't get the animals but both SYR and UPS went above and beyond to recover the animals from the person and ship them back to me at no extra cost so unless they mess up in some unfathomable way they have my complete loyalty. That being said SYR just started accepting snake shipments again so if you've shipped through them wrongfully then you have no place to complain.

this was obviously in response to the original post FYI

If you're implying that I shipped wrongfully, you need to read the original date on the thread (04-24-2009) and secondly, SYR lost their UPS shipping accounts completely...Because they didn't have a waiver to do what they were doing to begin with.

Wasn't implying anything, I said "if" to encompass the few others that have complaints with them when they have shipped wrongfully, sorry I didn't make that more clear. As far as the waivers go the way I understood it was that UPS was fine with it until they had a few animals get loose in transport due to some dunces not packing their animals right, I didn't know about the waiver thing. Personally I am FedEx certified so I'm not really worried either way, I used SYR because their rates at the time were just a little better.

I hope SYR is ready for the backlash when that happens, and we all know it will.

That is so true, but the other question is.....Are we ready when it does. It's going to be a big PITA, to ship 1 snake via delta. I can't imagine if I have to ship a hatchling either. :ack2:

I see a bunch of problems with the SYR's email that just went out. First is the 2 direct violations of the FedEx policies. With a FedEx reptile cert. you can not ship to a residential address only business addresses. FedEx would lose full control of this if it was allowed with a 3rd party shipper. All residential shipments have to be held at the hub or you could have your waiver pulled. 2nd. FedEx has a very strick policy 100% against 3 party shippers. We tried to get FedEx on board with RE before we went with UPS. Ghanns had a 25+ year shipping history and almost 1 mil in shipping revenue for FedEx each year. Ghanns and RE was told they would never alow 3rd party and would lose Ghanns as a customer before they would allow 3rd party shipping. Ghanns pulled all shipments but his breeder program shipping from FedEx to UPS and they still would now allow RE to do 3rd party shipping. That does not mean SYR could have pulled a miracle and if they did it, that would be great for everyone shipping that has been stuck paying retail rates. I dont think this will happen and if it does they have done the imposable and I will be the first to congratulate them. In our 3rd party negotiations we asked the question "what would it take to be an approved third party shipper?" The response was "an act of GOD". There was a company called DFS that claimed to be a FedEx reseller. They would hand out fliers to all of the vendors at some of the east coast reptile shows. They said they are approved to ship reptiles as a 3rd party shipper. Fedex pulled all of there accounts. FedEx is in business to make money. Why would they allow SYR to take some of there revenue away from FedEx. The hart of all of these 3rd party shipping problems is really just about who makes the money.

I don't think FedEx is going to take too kindly to SYR trying to siphon off their profits.

As Steve said, it is EASY to get a FedEx waiver, even I have one. :shrug01:
I am not going to purchase from ANYONE using SYR, I do not need to contribute to the process of screwing the shipping business up for the rest of us.

Getting a waiver costs nothing but a shipping box and bag....and is a way to ensure that all animal shippers KNOW how to ship! Bypassing established shipping methods for the lazy way that makes SOMEONE else rich whom has already proven (imo) to be less than an ethical businessperson, makes absolutely no sense.

I found the old flyer that DFS handed out that claims they are approved FedEx resellers. The site is not working anymore for some reason!

Like some of the others have said on here, SYR is going to ruin it for everyone if they get FEDEX mad and decide to pull everyone's shipping ability. I'm in the same boat as many other people on here where if Delta is the only way of shipping I won't be able to because its an hour drive each way to the airport. I'm going to contact FedEx so they at least have a heads up and can squash this before it becomes an issue. I'll let everyone know how it turns out, I'm going to send them the email SYR sent out.

:iagree: Good thinking.

This is really one of the best statements that anyone could make. Third party shipping will hurt everyone else in the long run. It's not "WILL" it screw up the shipping process, but "WHEN". It will happen, as it always has. These third party shippers have no control of how something gets packaged. There will always be someone who packages poorly, and a problem arises. After so many problems arise, they always say, enough is enough. If you want to save the limited shipping methods that are out there, open your own account, and take responsibilty for your own actions. You will be happy you did.

:iagree: Amen

The only reason I can see that anyone uses these third party shipping companies is because they we're denied a certification in which case THEY SHOULD NOT BE SHIPPING ANYWAY!!!!! anyone else who wants to ship needs to not be lazy and get certified. Its not hard and it is free if you call Fedex and get their account number.

forward the email to your rep. with your concerns. mine is already looking into it. the more reps that look into it the better chance our concerns will be heard.

Some people are just to lazy, and don't want to be bothered. It's not the people who make a living at this, or those who run a legitimate side business who ruin it. Most of the poor packaging and problems are from the guy who only produces two clutches a year, who could care less about proper procedure. These are the same people who are the biggest market crashers. They have the, I don't care mentality because it doesn't have an impact on their lives.

With all of the crap coming down on the reptile industry, shipping may end up being a target for legislation. Actually it already is. I know that there are two industry leaders in Florida, who have reptile mills, that have had secret meeting with Florida legislators to find ways to control all incoming packaging into the state of Florida (very powerful people). If things like this happen, it could go even further. Without shipping, online reptile businesses will not survive.

Don't take shipping for granted. Do it right, because if you don't, it may not even be an option some day.

There are legitimate reasons, really. For instance, when I moved across country I had to leave my snakes behind and a friend cared for them for a few months (mostly her son did). When I was settled I used one of these services to have my animals shipped back to me. It doesn't make sense to go through a certification process if you ship once every year or less. These services provide a needed services to people such as me.

Though, I do understand the criticisms.

So the guy/girl that runs a "legitimate side business" can't be the same person who "produces two clutches a year?"
Sounds like you pulled that out of your :censored:
