Should I be worried?

My Pastel X Axanthic clutch is on their 57th day and still have not dented in at all. They look and feel as full as they did the day they were laid. I have the temp set to 90 on the bator and according to the digital display on the front it has been kept between 87-90 degrees. The thermometer which i have in the bator also confirms this. This a different incubator then I usually use and I have the eggs in a much smaller container then usual as the bator does not have much room, so, wondering if they dont dent in if its because the humidity is kept higher? Should I be worried? All of my other clutches I have incubated have dented considerably and everything I have read says they should dent close to hatching.

IF you're absolutey sure that the dates are correct, I would probably cut them to ease your mind. I was actually JUST looking in on some of my eggs that are due to hatch next week. The 3rd clutch (which only has 1 remaining egg, of 2 good ones) looks full and plump, while the clutch that's due to hatch 2 days later is all dented in and looking more like they're about to hatch. My "guess" (based on my experience, but without seeing your eggs) is that you'll be just fine.

Ya you could cut them but I would candle them first to see if you can see baby snakes inside and see patterns if you can then go ahead and cut them and if you don't well thats a choice you'll have to make but I'd say still cut them. I say they are fine because I had one clutch that didn't dent at all this year.

I was off by one day on the date, its actually been 58 days. :) Lol. May 31st was their lay date. I candled them earlier and saw vessels but I think I will candle again with taking them out of the substrate to see if I can see baby snakeys.

i had a clutch that i cut last week, on day 52 that was like that. 4 out of 6 eggs were completely full with no denting at all.... i cut them and they were all perfectly fine. i wouldn't worry about it much as long as you know exactly what day you're at.

The snakes were moving when I candled them. So..if I only have mustache scissors for cutting (works fine usually) how exactly would I start a cut? Would I have to use a razor blade instead you think?

Just insert the tip of the scissors, and try to keep them angled upwards--pointing away from the animal--as you cut a small window.

You should still be able to pinch them a little bit. Just pinch them between your fingers and make a snip where your pinching. Once the whole is big enough to slide one side of the sizzors into it, slide it along the top and snip slowely as you go. I have yet to cut a baby!

Veins and baby will show up better in a darkened room. If you're still seeing movement, I'd just wait a little while longer. I usually don't see much if any movement in the last few days before eggs pip because there isn't as much wiggle room by then. Some eggs look just about as full at hatching as they did when they were first laid. I wouldn't worry about yours not denting. Whatever you decide to do, good luck. :)

*what I meant was I have yet to cut into a baby animal.. I will cut as early as day 40 if the eggs begin to dent too soon! As long as you don't mess with the actual hatchling inside to much, a little slit in the top shouldn't make a difference in incubation. It also helps if they are running low on "egg juice" I can add a little bit of sanitized room temperature water, or a little goo from a fuller egg

Alright, so, I cut, and, they arnt done. Lotsa yolk and no color, so, now what? As I was cutting the bottom on some of the eggs 'popped"..so, keeping liquid in there is going to be an issue now. So weird that they arnt done cause everything checks out.

Could you see the baby's? Did they look developed at all?
what I had to do for a popped egg.. and more recently.. a baby who pulled most of his yolk out.. was put the egg in a deli cup with a touch of water in the bottom,, lid on, few airholes in the lid and put it in the incubator just like that. Also works for babys who have unabsorbed yolk, but come out if the egg. If you can put the baby in the delicup with "egg juice" great, but water works just as well, not very much, just enough so the bottom is covered and they won't snag their umbilicus on the bottom.

Yeh, the are developed, just small and no color with a large amount of yolk. Makes me think something went wrong with temps. Alright, I will pull them out and put each individual egg into delis.

I just got back into this thread, when I saw the pictures it did look like the veins were very small for such a far along clutch should look like an artery highway but I don't know why they are so under developed thats really wierd. I hope the deli cup trick works I would have stopped cutting after the first one was under developed but hopefully no big deal.

Got the eggs (w/babies inside Sandy) in delis in the incubator. I did not add water because we are worried about drowning..ya know, how you arnt supposed to spray your eggs with water, im not sure how sitting them in water is all that different. There is quite a bit of yolk though so thats in with them. Dustin, I wasnt sure what I was looking at at first. Wasnt until the last egg that it actually dawned on me that they were underdeveloped. I thought at first I had somehow scored and my pastel was actually het axanthic. ;) After closer inspection of all the babies and their yolk size I decided that was not case. Kylie I will try to get pics tomorrow. I feel as if the poor dears have been screwed with much too much already and want to refrain from messing with them more today.
