In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Should the $$$$ be refunded ?

I recently purchased a Bolivian Amarili from someone and it came right on time but when I opened the box the snake was dead.  Now it took a week or so but the guy refunded my money for the snake but not for the shipping costs, The snake was sold for $275 shipped and the dealer refunded $250.  I dont want to name the dealer because I think he is trying to do the right thing but he doesnt feel like he should return the shipping money and when I have had an animal arrive dead as it can happen occasionally, I refund the customer the entire amount he or she gave me which includes the shipping costs.  I would like to know what everyone else does and that is what I will do and that is what I will expect from this dealer who for now will remain nameless unless it is deemed he will not do business the right way, but thats what we are here to find out with your help.

thats too bad gary..dead snake and all.
do you have any idea why the snake died?

Well Gary....If you buy a snake, and it gets to you dead (which is very sad)...why should YOU be responsible for spending a DIME?? Personally, I would send your shipping fees back also! AND...If I insisted on seeing the dead animal for myself?? I would have paid for you shipping it BACK TO ME, too!! NUF SAID!! ....Neil

Gary,

Live arrival should be guaranteed. I believe you are entitled to a full refund, shipping included.

The only instance where I can think a buyer MIGHT be partially responsible for such an unfortunate incident is when the reptiles are shipped under extreme weather conditions, the buyer is notified of the shipment, he is not home to receive the package and the package is left several hours outside. This doesn't seem to be your situation though.

well if he feels like he was responsible for refunding your money for a dead snake ,then he should refund 100% of your money shipping included .theres no reason why you should be responsible and or out the money no matter what amount it is when a refund is given.
so i would contact him on the other part he did not refund and approach him as to why he did not refund it and that you fill its only the right thingtodo ny giving you ALL your money back

I agree with everyone else, you should be refunded your money, 100%.  When anyone takes the responsibility to sell and ship animals, they also assume the risks invoved.  It's very unfortunate when animals of any kind die in transit.  The shipper should always guarantee live delivery unless there are extreme conditions addressed before the sale and shipping.  Hope you get the rest of your money back, good luck!

Ain't no freebies in life. He owes you the $25.00.  <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'>

<img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>   I feel for the poor snake, and for you, Gary!  I've never received one dead, but I"ve received them sick (back in the 80's) and one non-feeder (which is currently pending being rectified by the dealer)

well as a customer for a lotta years, and hopefully (if she's gravid) a future seller of my own batch of baby boas....
You asked for opinions, so here's mine...
you should be entitled to 100% refund if he's deemed any refund at all...  that's what I would do for my future customers... and that's what I"d expect if I wasn't going for a replacement animal from the dealer...
now if it was the carrier's fault (they let it sit in the sun and boil, or they let it freeze, etc) then the carrier ows the insurred ammount... I think we'd all agree on that one...
Since the guy you bought it from deemed that he owed you the price of the snake, he needs to cough up $25.. that's the right thing to do...

Thank you for all the replies guys.  No the carrier arrived on time and I was here waiting on the snake who was a screaming male Bolivian silverback and it breaks your heart to see a gorgeous animal like that dead in a box !!!  By the way I am still looking for a nice male .... but anyway I dont think its the dollar value owed to me but the principle of the issue and I know that I have been on the other side of this issue and I have refunded the entire amount given to me by my customer and if I was doing something everyone else was not doing then I wouldnt do it again, but I really feel like I am right about this one so I felt I should post it.  It always sucks when something you ordered arrives either sick or dead and IMO you dont make matters worse by aggravating your customer over shipping costs.  I really believe that this guy is trying to do the right thing but I think he feels like he is getting screwed because the animal he was sending me actually belonged to someone else and he has refunded the $250 already, which came out of his pocket.  But I agree with everyone here in that if you take on the responsibility then you do it knowing full well the risks involved.  Every time I ship an animal I am nervous something will happen because you cant control everything and you never know how a package will be treated by the chosen carrier.  Anyway I will keep everyone posted on the results of my situation since this person said they would abide by the decision of the majority and I think he will be good for his word.

Thank you to all who replied on this thread.  The problem is solved because the person in question just sent me the money for shipping after he read this thread and realized that he was not doing the right thing.  I knew this guy was a good guy he was just mistaken in his judgement and again thank you to everyone who replied and thank you BOI.

Gary...What most dealers and people don't realize is ....It makes NO difference if what you're sending is 1 Anole, or 100 Pied Balls.... the PACKAGING (for shippment) of these animals, IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE SALE!! You should pack EVERY ANIMAL like it was THE HOPE DIAMOND! Not to mention the fact that when you get the package...this is your FIRST IMPRESSION of the dealer! It BETTER be PERFECT!! If it's NOT....that's (probably) the LAST TIME you'll hear from that individual! IEO (in Eddie's opinion), of course! ....Neil

Glad you got things worked out <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I know this is over but thought I would post my 2 pennys <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Eating the cost of shipping is far better then losing a customer. You would of gotten a full refund for shipping and if needed or wanted, I would pay to have the animal shipped back to me.

Gary,

 If it were me:

The snake should be sent BACK to him. HE should be responsible for both the shipping cost  that YOU paid  to get the snake to him, the shipping costs for you to send it back to him also. In short..EVERYTHING.

My heart does not wheep for him selling someone elses snake, that is called BROKERING and you often as not dont know the health of the animal involved. if you KNEw it was brokered my heart does not bleed for you either, becuase there are certain inherent risks dealing with snakes that are"passed around'.

I beleive that once the snake arrives ALIVe, from that point on he has no RESPONSIBILITY to refund or exchange that snake ever. He  as a seller cant be responsible for what you do with it. But, LIVE ARRIVAL is a given and ALL shipment costs, whether to or from are HIS to eat.It is HIS responsibility until you take the snake home. Then it is yours.

I agree, This case was just a simple case of someone not knowing the way things should be done .... not a bad guy but just someone who felt he had already done enough considering the circumstances.  The bottom line is he saw where he made his mistake and he corrected it and that is a good business man.
