While I agree that some of Wes's comments have been over the top and at times, uncalled for, I also CLEARLY remember some of the posters here being guilty of this too. Chamco, you're a hypocrite. But, you know what? So am I and so are some of the others here. We have all been guilty of allowing our better halves to be quieted simply for the sake of getting in that "one last dig." You know, that dig that for whatever reason we simply could not step away from.

We can sit here and debate the merits of Wes but don't go doing so without, at least daily, looking in the mirror.

There's a solid biblical passage in the Sermon on the Mount that applies here. Something about casting judgement upon the person with a speck of dust in his eye when the accuser has a plank in his.......

Terese, while I have to agree with much of your post, with regards to the above, I must have missed the multiple posts by Pez calling folks A$$es, liars, thieves, scammers, etc etc etc. Exact behavior ? Far from it. I have yet to see Pez run around the BOI like a chicken with its head cut off. While Pez would expect to have his/her posts deleted from there due to the "no name" rule, I don't see anything to indicate that the posts would be in the same tenor as Wes'. Frankly, most of the opinions here have been expressed elsewhere, ad-nausea in some cases. I think a few of us arrived at our opinions long ago, had the wits to do it independent of others, and have expressed them long before this thread saw the light of day. Wes, as currently constituted, denigrates Fauna in the opinion of many here, and that would seem to be the topic of this thread.

Griz, as to you and I being "hypocrites". Maybe if you want to wear the label, have at it. No doubt that in times past you and I may have posted more aggressively, but I don't see it now, and have not for some time. Even at our worst, we were not in the same league as Wes. Not even close IMO. I don't see a host of folks asking you to tone it down.

Bob, I agree and I think all of us have done stuff that maybe we should have thought better of. I wish there was a way back. Calling each other dumbasses and condoms is probably not the way to facilitate peace.

I think many times it is human nature to establish a position and defend. Hardly anyone wants to admit making mistakes, it is always easier to put it off on the other guy.

I think I've been guilty of this too. In fact, I know I have. It's human nature, and I'm human. But you know what? We are all still here, in our little community and I think most plan to stay, and all of us can make an effort to halt hostilities.

I sure would like to go back to the old Fauna where insults were rightfully delivered to and only to the slime buckets who ripped off unsuspecting buyers and sellers.

We don't have to hold hands and sing kumbaya, but it would be nice if there was a wee bit less hostility among ourselves, and if we could direct that hostility toward thieves and scammers that hurt those who purchase and look forward to new reptiles, whether it be a zillion dollar ball python morph or a thirty dollar dragon. From the experienced owner to the novice, we can all help by giving advice and assistance toward battling the persistent scammers in the reptile world.

I got a few more minutes of writing time between chameleon chores this AM. You and I both have read and written plenty of posts here. We each recognize ourselves and other posters in this thread who may have had more sniping in their posts of past. For whatever reason, many of us have mellowed a bit. Many are still capable of writing a post with teeth to it, but not the willy-nilly antagonism that Wes still favors. There is a time and a place for such, but it sure isn't most of the time and most of the places. Many of us share the frustrations that seem to have come hand-in-hand with the "new BOI", voiced often enough, and specifically in a few threads such as the Wild Wild West. I can't remember the last time I saw you attempt to hijack a thread with pointless antagonism, you hypocrite I have posts from 1-2 years ago I'd erase if I could, hypocrite that I am I am exceedingly comfortable in all my criticisms of Wes.

Nope, I stand by my assessment. Semantics is the only difference. The behavior is belittling, antagonistic, and mean spirited....which is what Wes is accused of. And if that is anything for one to hang their hat on, I'll eat that hat. What Wes lacks, among other things, is the character trait known as "self-restraint", which is something most of us hope our children acquire in the first third of their life. While unanimity of opinion is not to be expected, the preponderance of the opinions is worthy of consideration. Suggestions have been made, directly and indirectly, that those seeking to apply peer pressure to improve the tone around here are hypocrites, cherry-pickers, irony poster-childs, etc. I don't think so.

As for the "mean-spirited" behavior, semantics, etc, I think therein might lie some true irony. IMO a few have chosen to address Wes, and only Wes, as he often addresses others. Content and presentation in Wes' own language ... two for the price of one.

There are a couple of things. Let me elaborate.

There are some here accusing me of things, terrible, horrible, terrifying things, things that no man with a mother should ever do. Then these very same accusers do that for which I am being vilified. Amusing.

There are those here who have stated, quite plainly, that 90% of what I write is not worth reading to ferret out the 10% of what I write that THEY think is of value. Yet these very same people read EACH AND EVERY WORD I POST. Amusing.

There are those, like dandy, who SHOULD be held to a higher standard than a regular member; afterall, he's a moderator. Given, he mods a forum that has practically NO posts by new members much less old members and is in no way anything that anyone with any pride in themselves would be proud to say, "I'm the mod of that forum," because, well, it's really pretty pathetic. Were a GOOD mod there, I suspect there would be new posts, pics of snakes, questions asked to get people to post, all sorts of things to draw people there and get them actively participating. And yet, none of those things occur.

Instead this MOD, a symbol of FAUNA, compare me, merely a paying member, to a perforated condom. Amusing.

(regarding the "ignore" feature) They can still read your posts, be they the dumBest person on fauna or not, when you put them on ignore. That's why chumpco has his little tools quote his posts, to be sure that I, the most important person in his life, sees his pathetic attempts at humor. At least, I think it's humor. It's really hard to be generous enough to actually call it that most of the time though, being as how almost everything he posts is either self-serving backslapping or just pathetically idiotic.

I noticed this trend long ago and was hoping I was wrong in my observations.

It seems every time there is a lull in bad guys to go after that the membership starts going after each other. I have noticed this many times. Is that a side effect of what this forum is primarily about? A reflection of many of the members personalities? A need to always have someone to belittle and berate? A need for drama?

What ever the case, the constant negativeness of this site is really getting old. The apparent need for there to be some form of drama going on at all times is pretty sad. It's all so petty, ugly and accomplishes nothing. I just dont understand. I really dont.

By "the membership", I think that the point of this thread, and the WWW thread, was that it was not "the membership", but a limited number of nominees, and perhaps a very small if non-plural number, that needed to start the ruckus. Other than the usual antagonism that exists in a thread between the thread-starter and the object of their complaint, who is consistently the first third-party to post with the name calling and BS ? The shame of the site is that too often it has gone unchallenged, and at times it seemed a race amongst other snipes to join in the feeding frenzy. I don't know which disappointed more, the lack of decent others to say "lighten up", or the race to fling poo. I do not think this is the former "boredom thread" filling a need by members to rip each other, although a bit has occurred. I think its more the latter, a response to "the constant negativeness (of a few) ...... really getting old".

I think for some it goes a little deeper.

Some don't realize that there are a few of us who do NOT measure their selfworth by the opinions of The Faithful Fauna Readers, that there are some of us who just feel fine with who and what we are in SPITE of what a few folks here have to say.

These poor misguided individuals NEED the acclamation of the masses, NEED the pats on the back for hounding someone, NEED to see that their name has the highest post count in a certain thread or two, nevermind that they say the same tired thing over and over and over, despite the fact that many see them for just what they are; attention seeking whizbags without the intellectual acumen to actually make a point that doesn't include the words, "if it were me," or "I would," never able to think that someone else may have a valid point that they just don't understand.

These people are generally equipped with a large red button that says, "push here to activate dumbass.

Is it truly my fault that I see these buttons and push them just to see what happens, or is it the fault of those who have them, for displaying those gigantic red buttons in such fashion that they simply cannot be missed, cannot be left alone, cannot be hidden?

I suppose it is, indeed, my fault for pushing those enormous red buttons, for causing those sphincter snorkels to prove how easily manipulated they are, to show over and over and over just what lengths some will go to to simply try to one up someone who truly doesn't give a rat's patootie what a sphinkter snorkle thinks.

I am honestly amused, I laugh out loud in real life, by and at some of these guys and gals. To make ME, one guy, of no real consequence, amount to soooooooo much in the tiny worlds they inhabit is, in a twisted and sick way, an honour. To be so constantly on the minds of those who so publickly claim to loathe and despise me is quite interesting to the part of me that wonders why people do the things they do.

I know that I certainly do NOT spend that time I'm not here with a certain few snorkle hounds on my mind; but then, I, unlike them, am quite fine with myself inspite, despite, what have you, of what anyone thinks of me.

I reckon that's the difference. Some folks NEED to be noticed to feel good about the pathetic little lives they lead and, like it or not, I'm one of the biggest targets here, willing to play with anyone, regardless of intellectual ability or mental stability.

It's a game, one which is played by many but, perhaps, not really enjoyed by the majority of those involved because they just don't measure up to the standards necessary to even the playing field.

Or, maybe back in the day, I had one too many glasses of Electric Koolaide.
