In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Shrillomn, a brief expose

I think Harald pretty much summed it up for a lot a members who have been following this thread but not posting. Pez hasn't been around for 5 days or so. He's been able to set back and enjoy the fruits of his labors. I was hoping he would come back because, troll or not, I liked some of what he had to say.

I will say that I don't take much stock in what is written here. I've met a few fauna members and I suspect that every one of us is quite different in person. I bet even Bob and Jim could sit down and have a beer together. Well maybe. ;)

Some would say that what is written here shows a person's true character. I don't believe that. If I did, then I would have to suspect everyone I know personally, of being false, and hiding their true character from me.

It appears that in my absence, things have progressively worsened here. It would seem that my point has been well made.

Fare thee well, travelers.
My work here is completed.

I only hope that many of you have learned as much about yourselves as everyone else here has learned about you.

Interesting that you try to take credit shrilly. It seems that all you did was, from the safety of anonymity, stir the pot a bit.

I'll grant you some bit of intelligence but what you're claiming to have accomplished doesn't really have much to do with you.

It's akin to the how many mice will live in a 20gal tank provided all aspects of life are met except sufficient space. Eventually they kill eachother off until a small enough number is reached that they stop killing eachother off.

This site is much akin to that 20gal tank.

The difference is, anyone is free to exit at any time. The real question, at least for me, is why do some stay?

No one who participated in this thread was under any duress to make such participation mandatory and for you, shrilly, to try to take credit for anything other than tossing a turd on the dinner table, is a bit of a stretch.

What you've proved, to me, is that anyone can push buttons but that there are some who will acknowledge their buttons have been pushed, laugh it off and move on, some who will say they have no buttons that you could push, and some who don't know what a button is.

The thing is, you, by your cowardice, and having the gall to claim you've accomplished anything here at all, other than being a champion turd thrower, really is just stupid. What is it that makes you think you're so special as to make people see what is there in front of them should they simply choose to open their eyes? Perhaps I simply have taken your statement personally as I am not surprised by the posts on this thread.

I suppose this may be an experiment for some psych class or sociology experiment but even then, you didn't really do much, not enough to claim credit for anything that I can see.

Of course, it is possible that I simply don't see what you claim to have accomplished. No one here has acted in any way that was unexpected by me, not even you, a coward to the very end, but a needy coward from the very start.

Attention seems to have been your main goal, the ability or right to say, "I told you so," which isn't much to be known for. While you've gotten plenty of attention and some have seemingly decided that you were pulling strings, I look at it more as some have done and said things they felt but don't feel good about owning and so blame you for thier tossing of the turd, as it were.

It's been interesting and highly amusing for quite a bit of it, but I, for one, remain as I was, no rose coloured glasses, honest, and without a shred of respect for you and those cowards like you who snipe from the cover of annonymity.

Wes,
You must have read more into the last Shrillomn post then I did.
I didn't see him taking credit for anything, other then possibly providing a thread where people could make fools of themselves.

I personally think that there are at least a couple of members who would like to delete a post or two that was made in this thread which showed them to be, at least momentarily, without conscience.
Of course, there are probably also a couple of members who should, but can't make that distinction.

It's entirely possible that I did just that Mike. It's one of the inherant drawbacks to posting as an unknown entity; no one really knows just what you mean, there is nothing to go on but the letters lined up on the screen. In this case in particular it's a darn shame because had shrilly had the wherewithall to own its words, there may have been a bit of credibility given to them, other than one hell of an entertaining drama.

In the end though, the credit for that entertainment goes to the players, not the starter of this thread; afterall, at least those IN the show knew it WAS a show, something that seems to have escaped shrilly the coward.

I don’t understand the logic behind this thinking. His letters lined up on the screen in such a way that I didn’t have a problem understanding the meaning behind the words they formed. Are you saying that George Eliot’s works were more difficult to understand than they would have been had she not used a pseudonym? Heck, I’m a nobody on this site; are my points less clear because you may have never seen my name before?

I agree that Shrillomn’s points would have had more impact if they had come from a legitimate user, but I’m not going to say they are without value because we don’t know who he/she is. And the point has been made before, but I’ll bring it up again: it really doesn’t take much more courage to spew hostile b.s. over hundreds or thousands of miles of data lines using your own name than it does to do the same thing anonymously.

It's not automatically true that posts will carry more weight if the author is known. In fact, if there was enough specific past animosity between the anonymous individual and it's apparant target then any "points" would have been far less effective in their delivery given that others would see the history and assume that animosity was inevitable and a biproduct of the relationship rather than any (supposedly) logical thought process.

If Person A is known to dislike Person B and they mutually fued every so often, observers might take any attempts at criticism as more of the same, without really analyzing the posted content for truth. Person X though... they suffer the skepticism inherent in their anonymity but not the skepticism inherent in the public knowledge of a grudge.

This is not to say that I agree with the decision to post in this manner- I don't. Or that I agree with any of Shrillomn's posts or arguments; they were carefully measured doses of spiteful rhetoric maded by an individual with just enough self control to avoid most the overt insults and accusations in their phrasing- what they said directly isn't as important as knowing what they were. Was there something valid underneath all that? Maybe- I don't know and have no opinion on whatever kernal of truth others seem to have latched onto but I reccognize hyperbole when I see it.

there is nothing to go on but the letters lined up on the screen.

That's symbol manipulation though. Manipulation of symbols is one of the more signifigant evolutionary traits that seperates us, in some ways, from most other animals. Conceptualization of abstracts; little lines or sounds that communicate entire ideas.

Oh like this thread is any different than a Baker's Dozen worth of threads from the last year. This is nothing more than a rerun of an episode we have all seen many times. And next year we will see plenty more of the same.

Does your not understanding, or mine, or anyone elses mean that there was only one way to interpret those little letters lined up so neatly on the screen?

Maybe I was looking for something that isn't there, maybe I missed what was there.

A simple musing, a wondering after why, and because someone doesn't understand it's negated?

Eh.

And for some dean, neither distance nor form of interaction make any difference to what is said. To some it is all the difference in the world.

I'm not sure this thread makes me think a few of you must have, at least once in your lives, had this reply...

"There was this one time, in band camp......."

"Polite applause from the balcony seats"

A run of consecutive thoughtful posts !! I can't friggin' believe it !! Before I get any further, with regard to this Kevin:

I will say that I don't take much stock in what is written here. I've met a few fauna members and I suspect that every one of us is quite different in person. I bet even Bob and Jim could sit down and have a beer together. Well maybe.

What it shows is how using Fauna as a vehicle for some issues only magnifies stupidity. I would love to post the entire list of folks whom I have extended the "olive branch of a phone call" to, in PM's, as things looked to be headed ugly, and how they responded. Some with a backbone, and others seeking to stay behind their keyboards empowered. I am sure that Bob is a very good guy ... except for some of what comes out here. Maybe an outstanding guy. He might say the same likewise of me. In most scenarios, we could probably get inebriated beyond belief together. Not in Fauna.

Great posts Roy Munson and Seamus ..... not the only ones IMO, just the best ones. Mike .... always good as usual.

Sammy, I agree with this in part:
Oh like this thread is any different than a Baker's Dozen worth of threads from the last year. This is nothing more than a rerun of an episode we have all seen many times. And next year we will see plenty more of the same.
... as well as Wes' take that Shrillow does not deserve much credit, and if not this venue, it would have been another. I think it was earlier in this thread where I mentioned the shoesmith in Gettysburg being the reason we had the battle of Gettysburg. Otherwise, its the battle of Harrisburg. A battle either way. There were advantages to the debate here without it being in the BOI couched around some rip-off, etc. But the venue is the same as Mike G.'s WWW thread.

Pez, as effective as you believe you were, you'd have been more so had you not only been your real identity IMO, but if you then posted with the same approach to sanity elsewhere in the site. For all the "best" this site brings out, it still brings out the "worst" in appreciably larger amounts. People who like the tabloid "Jerry Springer" atmosphere are not leaving the site. They are staying, and growing in number since it returned to WWW. Its the other side of the coin that is growing smaller. My own exit is inevitable, as it is getting appreciably harder to justify time here. Good news for you Wes. Good news for me too. A real "win-win". Just a very sedated expection on "Johnny, show them what they've won!"

Sammy, Wes, Bob, and those with whom a beer would be easier, Happy Holidays.

I assure you Jim that if we ever get the chance to share a beer that I will take gladly take the designated driver role so that a voice of reason/sobriety will help offest the magnification of stupidity by the alcohol.... :)

Have a good Christmas too.....

Griz

Lets make sure there isn't a computer in the car too ? Wouldn't need two magnifications of stupidity clashing, now would we !! BTW, wouldn't matter who had the computer, and who the beer :) !!

Ah it's just like the Western Front -- Christmas rolls around and they stop killing each other and ah well in this case meet for a beer lol.Randy

What a facade.
It all makes me what to vomit.
Soon the hypocrisy of the holidays will be over
The players will return and the band will play on.

Guys, don't make ASSumptions.

It's just a lull, or maybe some folks thinking.

Besides, belittling those who are taking time off from the fray for the holiday is not much different than being in that very fray itself, is it?

It had to be quite a unique moment. I could go on, as I am a history buff (arrogance and braggadocio overflowing), but there were many similar or parallel examples in WWI and WWII. What an unfortunate irony that while the actual date of Christmas has caused pause that saved small thousands, the rest of the calendar year welcomes religious fervor that has killed many millions. If nothing else, lets hope to find solace in the pause, ...... andwhile a few rearm, naturally :santa:

Ah, yes..... nothing like blaming the vehicle for the accident......
