In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

sick turtle help.......PLEASE!!!!!!

hey i have 5 red eared sliders the smallest has develloped an irritation on both eyes she can open her eyes but is very unconfortable for her. wandering if neone has had a problem like this or just would help with curring the problem
thanks Brian :bawling:

If they are all housed together and only one has this problem you may want to isolate that one from the others just in case. The bigger ones may be picking on the smallest. Are any of it's feet or tail looking like they have been nipped at? What are the tank conditions? How often do you change the water? If there is something going on with the water the smallest would most likely be the first to have/show problems.

i clean the water every couple days(the water is filtered) i use reptisafe to condition the water before putting the turtles in the vet around here are @55holes and tell me its nothing and it will eventually go away. there is no rivalry in the tank ive had all the turtles since they hatched there is no cuts or abrasions in her.

sounds like vit a deficency

THey sell a product called turtle eye drops at most bigger pet stores like petco or petsmart. Ive seen this eye irritation alot on RES hatchlings. I would also try exposure to natural sunlight for a few hours every day or uva/uvb lighting. ALso I would apply a small amount of triple antiobiotic( neosporin) on both eyes daily for 5-7 days to treat and/or prevent bacterial infection. Hope this helps. :)

thanx ill try it but before i do just wandering what background you have with turtles before i put neosporin in her eyes
brian

Its starting to clear up but she still has some disconfort in her yes but its looking a little better
Brian
P.s thanks for all the help

i've seen it along with small white skin blotches on hatchlings.i've heard it can be caused by dirty water or temperature changes(water temp gets too cold).a friend of mine use to use diluted ick treatment for fish and soak the turtle for 15 minutes a day in it.it was like 5 drops to 1 gallon of water in a small container then he would sit the turtle out for 15 minutes more in a dry container then return to its normal tank.hope this helps you.

DO NOT use diluted ick treatment on your turtles eyes. Ick and other antifungal treatments for fish contain pimenta racemosa which is not safe for his eyes. You can buy medicated polysporin over the counter which is specificly for eyes. It has the same medical ingredients as Turtle Eye Drops. If you wouldn't put it in your eyes, keep it out of your turtles.

yes i know i have used it once before and it ended up giving it a skin disorder and eventually killed it
thanks guys
brian
PS Its comming back hard than it was before

sorry for the bad info.i guess my friend didn't know as much as i thought.i never tried it myself.sorry again and i hope your turtle gets better.

Those turtle eye drops are great, but you can also use an antibiotic eye ointment. My vet gave me that for puffy eyes. It's almost indentical to neosporin, and you could try that. My vet said it's ok. If it keeps getting worse she may need to have a course of injectable antibiotics. Baytril is a good one for RIs but it's really strong and I'm not sure if it's the best one for eye ailments.
Try to find a good exotics vet and take your baby there. Just keep an eye on her :)
