In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Sick Turtle, pleas help =(

I gave this turtle to my wife around a year ago. Her story (It a female I believe), I work in a Pre-Owned Car Dealer, and in one of our cars (Got it from a private Car Auction), while cleaning it, I found the turtle under the seat =O, since the car was pre-owned, I figure the pre-owner left the turtle in there. I took her and keep her as a pet. I have her in a 30 Long Tank (showing in pic). I change the water every Sunday, it has its filter. Also, I throw a "tetrafauna ReptoGuard Turtle Health Conditioner" on every water change. Recently, this start to appear, Im into ball pythons, my knowledge in this field (Turtles) is limited to what I've been reading ("Aquatic Turtles: A Complete Guide to Sliders, Cooters, Maps, and more" and "Red-Eared Sliders: From the Experts at Advanced Vivarium Systems"). I would like to know what Are we doing wrong, and what's wrong with her =(.

I thank you all in advance =)

I am not a turtle person[ I don't own or have experience with] and I imagine someone will respond to this but in the meantime if you type in aquatic turtle shell, you will find some info right away.

Hey Irving,

That looks like shell rot to me.Take a look at this site http://www.wetwebmedia.com/FWSubWebIndex/turtshellrot.htm

Also what are you using for light? If the single light you're using isn't a mercury vapor bulb which provides heat and UVB you'll need to have 2 bulbs.

There's a lot of info out there for treatment of shell rot (that's just my opinion of what is going on) and be sure to provide the proper lighting, temps, etc.

Good luck with him.

I agree it appears to be fungal. I would also recommend not changing the water every week but instead get a good filter and build a good flora a bacteria. I personally use E-Heim Canister Filters

Thank you everyone... best option will be take her to a vet..

Save the money you'd spend on the vet and use it towards getting yourself a Mercury Vapor Bulb a good filtration unit and treat the infected areas for fungus. :yesnod:

The, if just add a UVB light.. and treat the infected area.. she will recover?

I just order a "Zoo Med Powersun UV Self-Ballasted Mercury Vapor UVB Lamp".. hope she gets better with it =)

thank you

Yeah, like Steve said. Filtration is huge, and you don't need the full water changes as often as you do them.

I wouldn't bother with the little turtle water conditioner either.Go BIG on filtration and try to get a bigger tank if possible.MV bulb is the way to go.

A 75 gallon tank would do nicely with an EHeim 2217 http://www.aquariumguys.com/eheimcanister4.html and personally I don't use any conditioners in my water. I raise Diamondback Terrapins in fresh water and they do great even though they are normally a brackish water species.
