The Serpentine Queen
A while before Hurricane Sandy hit I completed a trade with Sierra Kerridge that went very smoothly. Thanks to a lovely power outage I am just now getting to sit down and write this.
I don't normally do trades very often, especially online, but when the chance to acquire a third sonoran whipsnake arose, I had to give it a shot. Three different people messaged me about her ad because I have been actively seeking more of the species for quite some time. The ad stated that it was purchased as female, but that gender is not guaranteed as it was not intended to be bred.
Ultimately I didn't mind as being able to add another good specimen of this species of either gender is priceless to me. In the end I offered to send her an adult pair of everglades rat snakes and two pieces of my polymer clay jewelry. We originally planned to meet as we are about 3.5 hours apart but that became impossible on both of our ends so we decided it will be easier to ship.
I shipped first, I had an insulated box, but she didn't, and seeing as I had her home address and how good she was with keeping in touch I was confident I wasn't going to be duped. All went well, I shipped out the rat snakes, and the next day she received them. She let me know they arrived right away and then used my box to ship the whip snake back to me. She shipped out that same day and the snake arrived in perfect health the following day.
I was bummed when I probed the snake and it turned out to be my third MALE sonoran, but then again I knew going into the trade there was no promise on the sex of the snake, and sexing this species can be tricky as the males look very feminine and can surprise you when they probe out male. I'm quite happy with the snake, it has a good appetite, and is very, very tolerant of me handling him, although I don't really ever handle my sonoran's unless necessary.
Now that I have power again soon I will be mailing Sierra back her jewelry as she somehow managed to crush the one snake really badly (we have no idea how it happened). I'm currently repairing/rebuilding that now.
Overall Sierra:
-Maintained good contact
-sent me a healthy snake
-recieved animals first and held up to her end of the deal promptly
If for some reason she ever had another sonoran whip snake I wouldn't hesitate to do repeat business with her.
