    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

i am kinda new to raising dragons and fell in love with them instantly. i do however have a question. i have read in the bearded dragon manual and other places breeding dragons is size and weight dependant and of course age dependant. i have a couple dragons that im not sure the exact age that they are. if anyone could be of some help as to some sort of optimal range of size and weight to look for them to achieve before opposite sex introduction would be greatly appreciated ..hopefully someone can give a few pointers as i do not want to prematurally try to breed them because i have read it can stunt their growths not to mention other problems can occur
 
Hi, I am fairly new to dragons as well as I got my first 1 about 10 months ago. From what I have read on the subject is that you want the female to be atleast 1 year old but most say 1 and half. As far as weight goes I have read that as little as 300 grams is ok for the female, but have read from breeders that I prefer that it should be atleast 350 grams. I have a 8 month old female that is 275 right now and I wouldnt think that another 25 grams would do it. I also have a male that is right at 350 grams and it looks more like the size that the femlae would need to be. As far as the weight and age of males, that should be left up to somebody with more experience as most of the Q and A that I have read focuses on the female. But I do think that it is not as important as the weight and age of the feamle.
 
I usually recommend 18 months and 350 grams minimum but it doesn't stop there. Realistically if I ever had an 18 month old that only weighed 350 grams there is probably no way I would breed her. They should also be prime examples of their species and in top physical condition. With todays overloaded market there is absolutely no reason to breed anything but the best.
 
I agree. My breeder male is only 1 year now, but nearly 500grams/20"+. my two females are 18" and around 350-400 gram range [sisters]. 18-24 months is ideal for females. Remember, you get better fertility with older dragons that have brumated that previous winter.
