In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

welll I checked on her 4 days ago she devolped mucos out side of her mouth and nostril bubbles. I turned heat up to 93-96 hot side 83 on low todat she rubbed her face on hide till blood. tomorrow she goes to vet. has anybody ever asked the vet to give script for a vial. I mean i have so many snakes it just makes sense to have extra on hand just in case. i have no idea how she even got it temp on hot side near 90-92 low side is 80 -83. humidity around 60 percent any body have any ideas. she is the only one that has it and there has not been any new additions to rack. newspaper changed 2-3 times a week i wash soap and water once a week and bleach the second week or if crap is present i wash and bleach.

"script for a vial"? Vial of what?
Most vets aren't going to randomly dispense antibiotics without seeing the patient. There are exceptions; but those exceptions are usually based on ongoing dr/patient relationship.

No she is going to vet tomorrow. Do i ask him to provide me extra batril or script so i could give it to others if it happens again . Figured be easier than say 3 months it happens again to say 50 snakes and i gotta pay for 50 visits for diff snakes

If it happens in 3 months to 50 snakes, or even 5, you are clearly doing something wrong.
Antibiotics are toxic - improper dosing can cause longterm problems (and/or death). Heck, for that matter, so can "textbook" dosing if the animal is already dehydrated. There are numerous considerations, possibly even some legal issues.....again, it does happen sometimes, but it is usually based on a level of comfort. If the vet knows you, and is comfortable with your knowledge and judgement, he/she might go along with it. By the same token, unless you have ongoing or frequent issues, or animals with known health problems that require it, why would you need antibiotics on hand? Using them when they aren't "needed" (let's be honest, RI is an incredibly overused term in this hobby...first symptoms are generally indications of husbandry problems, not actual infection) can lead to resistance; and there are different antibiotics for different things - use the wrong one, and you stress the animal without fixing the problem.
It can be a nice thing to have - don't get me wrong - but what happens when you go 8 months without a problem, and you notice that the drug is past the expiration date (or, worse, is discolored)? Do you have syringes and needles for administration? (you do know those shouldn't be thrown in the garbage, right?)

Basically, all I'm doing is pointing out things you should already have considered...I'm not trying to talk you out of it, or to be negative about the idea. Hope your snake recovers quickly.

I see what ur saying i have not had any issues in yrs. I think a may have found the issue that caused it. I was gone for couple days came back to soggy newspaper that was 2 weeks ago.needles are not an issue. Wife is phleb so getting and disposeing no issue. Im just very precautious. Ill just keep going to vet until i get familiar with him. I mean i havent been there in yrs.

They need to do a resistance test to see what type of antibiotic is needed so it will be effective in treating your snake, if that's what is needed.

It's definitely worth working on a relationship with your vet, a few minutes at a time. Good herp vets are worth their weight in gold, and mine is one of the very few things I'm gonna miss about this place when we move.

Well this guy gave shot baytril took xray and wanted to do culutures. His assistant told me they dont see snakes often. There are no exotic vets within 3 hrs of me. I dont think he had a clue . Told me to go see another vet that has latherascope next week this visit cost me almost 400 seems to me o got burned but what was i to do

This is why it's a good idea to have a competent vet lined up before you actually need them.

Good luck, I hope your snake pulls through and you find a solid vet. Maybe someone around here might have some suggestions for a good vet near you that you might not know about.

WOW $400 that hurts sorry to hear that you got hosed so bad. When people see snakes their like oh I can charge an arm and a leg just because it's not a dog/cat! They should have at least gave you something to take home since one shot of baytril isn't going to do anything.

ya i know told me to raise humidity too it was at 40 -50 because of the cold weather and wood stove i just put a humidifier in room and sprayed tubs with water. hopefully she will pull threw the xray he took didnt show nothing in lungs

OK, I'll bite - what is a latherascope, and of what benefit would it be to your snake, lol.

You said he "wanted to do cultures"...almost implies that they weren't done? Culture and Sensitivity is the testing they do to find out what bacteria are present, and what medications are most effective against them. Honestly, that was a more reasonable suggestion than an xray, IMO.

While I understand the idea behind oral antibiotics, I think they're a pain in the butt for snakes that are unlikely to eat that frequently. If it was a bullsnake, for example, and not too sick; you could put the meds inside a rat pink, and let him take them willingly. I've always considered the process of getting a pill down a snake's throat to be time consuming and stressful to the animal....though the fluids used to flush it down are beneficial, and help reduce the risk of kidney damage. Unless you were instructed otherwise, you might find it easier to crush the pill, mix it in a little water, and just tube it (with some extra water after).

I have no clue why he wanted latherscope . The cultures have not been sent he is waiting my answer but for 200 bucks come on. The baytril he gave was liquid givin oral. He probally would have not givin me baytril if x ray was not done. Trust me if i can find a better vet i wlll but he was only one within 2 hrs.

Lathetscope is tube i guess he wanted to put inside to suck crap out and look to see if he had a tumor blocking air way at that point i said no and got antibiotics and left. Im new at this and this is the first time with problems. I did research and did not read about cultures being part of treatment nor have i read anything bout tumors. I guess ill post in another thread about vet in the ri ct mass area see what happens

Sounds to me like the vet is digging for gold. Just doesn't sound right to me that he charged you $400 for such little work and wants to stick a tube down it's throat which would probably be upwards of over a grand judging by your first bill.

ya all the vets but 2 in ct and ri has none i called every one in ma ct ri on that list only couple will do them and i picked 1 that got me in this mess
