In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Snakes at Sunset (Miami)

Mike has always proven to be easy to work with and been a good guy to me. If there is a problem, he'll make it right quickly. I'll be buying from him again, he packs his animals well and safely and has some nice turtles! I can't comment on his shop, never visited.

Miami geckos - what's considered annoying advice? We sell crickets, meal worms, wax worms, horn worms, and super worms. We tell people what's staple, and what's treats.
Just because I don't buy mealworms from you doesn't mean we don't sell them to gecko customers by the thousands weekly. We tell people what's easier, and how to gut load,. our kits come With gut load and water crystals. I remember you showed up to sell mealworms when I ordered some and I wasn't there. You left in a bad mood and it seems it carries over to the internet.
I don't forget many things.
Also as for reciepts, we give everyone what they ask for. We don't print pictures and sign them, and don't do much because our reputation so far with regards to hets is solid, and will remain so. Hets Have never been an issue. We had one guy ask for a certificate, which we don't do, and copied the pattern of snake on the back of his receipt upon his request. A thread further down from Michael Enriquez is public proof of a het we sold. And we have sold hundreds. He didn't ask for receipt.
We are very blunt on the care of animals and supplies, as after 12 years of doing this, we realized that if your not blunt, ipeople will make their own decisions and end up buying dead cricket in a can, and using play sand.

This has to be the stupidest thread I've ever seen on the boi. Someone sees a snake with mites and posts a bad guy thread? And now every petty issue anyone has ever had gets piled on? I'm still waiting for the bad guy. I don't defend many things on here, but it is almost always shops. The bigger something gets, the less perfect it can be. A shop, by it's very nature, buys stock from a number of sources, and if they did only 30 transactions a day, that would be 10,000 a year. Think every one of those customers is a reasonable person? The guy who did this thread wasn't even a customer, he was a f*****g window shopper. Nobody got screwed here. Guy who owns the shop says the snake came in dirty, and he was handling it. Is there another way? Dogs get fleas. Snakes get mites. Haters hate. Players ignore them.

no one answered so i wonder again how would any reputable seller treat it... olive oil? or?? (appears it wasn't being treated?)

and so.. was it for sale in that condition? YELP reviews seem rather poor =/

Thanks for the SEO bump Neil. ;)
It was already addressed in the thread, you must have missed it.
This actually shows fauna readers your true intent, and reasoning on the SYR POST.

Speaking as someone that works caring for the exotics in a local pet store I can tell you that I pretreat all my substrate and decorations with Provent-a-Mite when I'm setting up new displays/enclosures for animals. I have received animals that are mite infested from orders as well. These animals are never for sale before being free and clear of mites for 4 days and having eaten two consecutive meals. So even after being clean on mites they still aren't going home with a customer for at least 2 weeks.

That having been said, I would find it hard to believe that a snake with “2 precious sheds sitting in the enclosure" would have “just arrived". However, the picture shows one old shed, not two. Anyone who works in a pet store can tell you that morning maintenance takes a while and most stores are open for business during the process. I will give Mike the benefit of the doubt and say that maintenance that day may not have reached that enclosure yet. For all we know the shed was from the previous night. If there are any pictures supporting any of the other claims of neglect please post them to support your original statement.

I'm actually very interested in this thread since I have previously almost ordered from Snakes at Sunset in the past but had been talked out of it by local breeders/ customers. I've seen some awesome animals listed from them and would like to see proof of what I only know as cautionary gossip.

The thread is many years old. We are not even at that location anymore. You missed a couple posts from the beginning explaining the circumstances.
I suggest you start from page one and read Our posts about it to get a clearer picture. We , unlike your store, do not keep any snakes that may even hint at mites anymore. We ship them right back or re-deliver them back to whoever brought them. Most of the time That's not even needed as they are checked prior to purchase if local.. We do not treat for mites, as we don't purchase mites. We Preventatively spray all our CSERPENT racks with a solution that works better then prevent a mite just in case anything slips by which hasn't in who knows how long.
For those that do do business with us, we appreciate it, and repeat customers enjoy the benefits of doing business with us even more.
We have a lot of cool animals because we do it right. We don't half ass it, or sell junk thus have cash flow to keep getting cool stuff for our customers. We treat our suppliers and customers well enough for them to keep coming back again and again. And reason we have been open for 9 years..

I do business on a weekly basis with Snakes At Sunset and have never had any problems. Mike is a stand up guy and I really don't know how he does it all. The place is always clean, animals are healthy, and well cared for. He has one of the best selection of reptiles and supplies in Florida. I recommend Snakes at Sunset to anyone looking to buy from him.

ditto.. i joined FC six months ago and folks were actively discussing this 'old' thread day in and day out, so i chimed in but then haven't been back on FC since oct when i joined till now in may... so its good to see ppl don't just let all old threads be 'forgotten' and sit their on the server but be a reference point and collective learning and gauging experience as i too was about to order from Sunset but this thread plus many Yelpers dissuaded me, besides learned to acquire the few animals desired for my hobby mostly locally or within a few states away if it were to come to have to take gripes to court of whatever!

They are a good company. Received a pair of Madagascar Hogs at a good price. Both are eating scented rodents just as advertised and arrived with good body condition.

My experience/issue with SAS

I have not purchased from snakes at sunset, however, I have had contact with them. I was interested in a banana morph combo ball python and was initially weary bevause the price seemed "too good to be true" but I contacted them about the animal to find out more. What concerned me was this: the pictures on their site, they informed me, are stock photos and not photos of the actual animal being purchased. Which is fairly obvious, and I know other sites who do it as well. So it bothered me to purchase an animal that is that cheap, without even being able to see the actual animal I was purchasing. So I asked if they could email me a pic of the animal. They told me they couldn't because they were eating at the moment. So I waited 2 days and when I didn't hear anything I sent them another message. (2 days should be enough to wait to get a pic of a bp because they were eating) and it was then that they told me that the animal wasn't there and would arrive on Wednesday. So it bothered me. It's not really any big evidence of anything, but I thought that it is worth noting that the animals pictured
Are not the actual animal being sold, and that some of them may even be sold to you without them even seeing it first. (Had I placed my order the first night it would have been a whole WEEK before the animal even came in to them)....

Mary - just because a snake eats does not mean we cant sell it to a local person. In the meantime waiting for pics, the snakes you were interested in were sold. We get new stock weekly, and the type of snake you inquired about was to arrive Wed. It Could also be at our other facility, not at the store(where we take pics)We do have a special phone number for you to text to get pics of what you are interested in. 786-220-2953 (number will only receive texts, no calls)
Its on the front page of our site http://www.snakesatsunset.com
We get DOZENS of picture requests and try to accomadate everyone, and as far as I know, we are the only company that takes the time to do it, even for small dollar items. You want to see a selection of cobalt dart frogs? text that number. You should get 3-4 pics of several frogs to choose, or snakes, or tortoises, whichever you ask for in less then 12 hours. We sometimes miss some, but we try to get everyone the pictures they request.
If you notice on our website we are clear about the picture possibly not being the exact animal in the thumbnail. It is under the Live Arrival Guarantee, shipping and Policies section. It would be very difficult to picture all 50 pastel ball pythons we have, and keep track by the minute what is sold in store and online .Much less specific anoles, beardeds, chameleons etc! We do have specific photos for more EXPENSIVE ITEMS, such as piebalds and some other animals.
We developed the texting system as our best option to fill those picture requests and it works very well 99% of the time. People love it. If you inquire by email we foward that email to our picture guy who does it from that special phone. We are not 100% on all picture requests, but we are damn near close!
786-220-2953 (number will only receive texts, no calls)
Sorry we missed your request, but we are constantly getting new inventory, and selling inventory, as we are a physical store, not just a website. Sometimes items online may be sold in store before the site is updated for the day, sometimes its the opposite.

Just to mention as well, some people do not ask for pictures and order items off the website thus making them unavailable and sold out till we get new stock.

Mike,no matter how much "straight forward" info you have posted on your site, you just can't teach "common sense".

My experience with Mike and Snakes at Sunset has seriously soured me for this company. Some people have good experiences with them, more have bad.

All I can say is take a roll of the die and Good Luck to you.

My daughter & I rolled the die and got a Pastave with a pretty bad kink in it's neck. Of which you can still view on their site, Mike had said that he would have his webmaster remove the image yet it's still there.

We finally did get the money for purchase sent back to us, after much headaches and arguing with Mike over this issue. Because this snake most certainly is not something we can breed with and the company knew that was our purposes/wishes at the time of purchase. I am grateful the money was returned. I do still wish Mike would have the image removed, so that others don't expect to get that specific ball python.

So here's your Thank you Mike.

Tina wrong thread where your DAUGHTERS situation was spoken about. There was ZERO arguing about a refund, only you , who did not purchase it. Your adult daughter did, and agreed to things, of which you did not know about or listen to her about. She liked it as a pet not a breeder in the end after we requested it sent back. Its in the other thread. Passive aggressive much? lol- your daughter is very nice, handled situation perfectly, she decided to keep it in a good home, and we refunded her the purchase price to provide it a good home instead of sending it back and finding it a home here.
We have it on order to change several pics and add more animals. Its per hour we are billed not per job. So to make it worthwhile we wait till its a good amount for webmaster to work. The pictures are representatives of the type and species of animal, colors, sizes, etc and are clearly stated on the site that they are. thanks, your welcome Tina.
