In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

what are they... axanthic X albino?

a new form of albino?

are there albino red tegus... like the albino blue tegu?

where to get some, and whats the market price on these beasts?

what other morphs are out there?

thanks

The snows are out of the blue tegus. The price is very high on these. Ron St Pierre is the only one that breeds these as far as I know. Here is a contact email address. [email protected]

I have a snow tegu. Prices tend to range from $1,000-$3,000 depending on how light colored they are, age, etc. The male that I have came direct from Ron and is the son of Zelda (the snow pictured on Ron's web site). I'll post a pic of him later if I get some time.

That would be great! They are awesome!! :)

Haven't had a chance to take any new ones. But here's an older pic of my snow.

I agree with Art!! That is a awesome looking tegu!! :yesnod:

Very nice lizard. Are tegus fairly handleable, for the most part? Just curious, I have never kept any.

now that all depends on your part. When I got my first baby, she was from a pet store and man was she meaner than ever, but after some time and some work, she is now one the the nicest lizards I own. My girlfriend used to hate her because of how mean she was and now she is in love with her. So, if you don't handle it and and you mistreat it, yes you will have a mean and unable to hold tegu, because they are very strong and can get out of just about and grip you can get them in (mind a few) so it all depends on what you want. They are very smart and can learn plenty of different and new things, like when I come home and my big female wants out, she will tap on the glass with her and until I look at her, then she will walk to the side of her enclosure where i let her out and she will sit there until I do so. She has learned that I don't like her going behind my tv or under the dresser, so now she doesn't even try anymore. she has realized my hand isn't food and when she is hungry she goes to the side of the cage where I feed her and knocks on it and waits for a meal. now only if she'd stop crapping on my bed... truely a great companion :)

Kelli, tegus are extremely intelligent and can be very calm and friendly. There are many people who have even clicker trained their tegus to respond to commands. I keep my tegus as breeders more so than "pets". And despite the fact that I don't take them out to "play", they still never try to bite or tail whip. They do however have quite a feeding response and, of course, if you dangle fingers in front of them when they're hungry, they're likely to mistake them for mice.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I can talk my husband into letting me have a Tegu. I'm spolied now though, after seeing the pic of the Snow, I want one like that!

Although I'd miss him dearly, like most of my herp collection, for the right price, he could be yours

Seriously though, as much as I enjoy all of my herps, as far as personality goes, tegus are hard to beat.

Kelli,

Tegus are indeed great pets, but they do require a large enclosure and UVB is required (though there are some who disagree).

They are smart. As EA7770 stated, they can be clicker trained to respond and come to you. I started doing this years ago and have told many people how to do it. It's as simple and clicking the clicker a few times every time you feed them. They will associate the clicker with food and will come to you. They can also learn colors so it's easy to litterbox train them as well using warm water and a specific colored litter bin. If you search the forums you will find many post by me showing how it's done.

Bearded Dragons, Leapord Geckos, etc. are very tolerant of being handled, but tegus are the only reptile I have seen that seeks out human attention. I have a couple videos on the web showing this.

If you want a large lizard and have room.. a tegu is indeed the way to go. Handle it, love it, and don't feed it live rodents (use only frozen/thawed) and your tegu will very likely be calm, mellow and have a very low feeding response.

EA7770,

I still love the looks of the boy in the picture. Can't wait to see some updated pics. He must be quite a bit larger by now. Has he thrown you any babys yet?

Rick

Rick is correct!! Argentine tegus are the most tame of all reptiles, IMO.

Glad to see you joining us Rick!! :)

Here's a pic of him from this morning. He's (obviously) in full shed. Have one gravid female from him this season.

He is even better looking now.. I love the short blocky build he has. Was he bred to a blue, an albino or a snow? Can't wait to see pics. Hopefully incubation goes well for you.
