    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Ok here's a subject that has been discussed but what people typically get annoyed with is the fact that the word dinker gets WAY OVERLY used. But here's what gets on my nerves, the breeders out there that are labeling everything under the sun as a dinker and charging 2,3,4, etc times more than what a REAL MORPH is being priced at. The word dinker means its UNPROVEN!!!!!! And the ones I have been seeing for sale recently look like nothing more than nice examples of normals for $300-500. Its absolutely absurd! I did pay a lot of money for a "dinker" that "should" prove to be a new morph and am in the progress of proving her out but some people are just cashing in on this word and it really gets to me! OK RANT OVER.

Not going to go on a long rant, as I think you covered it, however, I agree. Completely annoying. People need to stop lying to themselves and other people about their animals being dinkers.

To me a dinker is a normal until proven otherwise. I have a few that I'm drinking with, but if I ever sold them they would be priced as normals. So I agree as well.

I don't understand how someone can be the judge of what is a dinker and what is not. It's in the eye of the buyer whether it is or is not. Just like buying.... well anything else anywhere, if you don't like the price don't buy it, others may value it differently than you.

Only time I would have a problem is if the seller was presenting a dinker as something it is not, claiming it is genetic when its not proven or saying dinker is a morph itself. If their honest about it... how can you put a price on the unknown? everyone will value it differently. Obviously you value the unknown as nothing, I've bought dinkers above the price of a normal, so I value them differently than you.

Maybe we add the word "dinker" to all of our animals so it bumps the price up.. Oh even better than that.. Dinker Holdback.. Now that should fetch some big bucks.. lol

I agree it's annoying to see normals labeled as dinkers with a big jacked up price tag, but most of the time I just think the seller is dumb as heck and they will get stuck with the snake. Who seriously would buy a normal for $300-500???

A dinker is a normal with a chance at something.......guess what, in the wild all normals are dinkers. A normal didn't climb up to a bar and say "hi I'm a dinker" to another "dinker" and they made little albinos! If you sell one of "your" dinkers it is a normal. If you KNEW your "dinker" was the lost hidden piece to making zebra striped balls you would not sell it. If you are selling it you dont have much faith in it so guess what...........thats right folks, its a normal! I once had a snake that I felt was 100% het for hermaphrodite, it had to have both sexes because it was so mean it could go screw itself for all I was concerned........yep, it was a single gene morph not a single gene dinker! Seriously, I had a clutch of fires that looked like deserts (to the point 3 people said deserts and I could not understand how my breeding records were wrong) and the normals were light, wacky pattern, and mustaching. I kept every female, the visual fires, and gave the males away as normals to kids that were not going to breed. This season either proves my "dinker" out or all fires will be sold as super nice fires. Any normals are wacky normals given away, but not dinkers unless the new owner decide it is their dinker.

Your absolutely right and I would NEVER buy some of the crap that these people are making $500+ on. Ok I shouldn't say crap because no animal is crap but no I wouldn't EVER spend that kind of money on a normal and that's not my problem. My problem is these breeders are making tons of money off the optimistic newbie that knows NOTHING about 90% of the industry. They are exploiting the beginners and its total BS!

HAHAHAHA funny but very good points. Dinker is only a dinker to the person working with it and should be sold as a normal. Now don't get me wrong I do think there are certain cases where they should be sold according to legitimately being possible new morphs but it still shouldn't get too carried away unless you plan to put a guarantee behind it. You can't charge someone $5K for an unproven genetics snake and not put a guarantee behind it.

Lets not forget about how they are either "pounding" , "slamming" , or " fisting" F/T RATS! Ok the last one is mine.. but you get the point.

FISTING rats :rofl::rofl:

and what an awesome point by Randy about the whole if they thought it was REALLY going to be a new morph they would keep it! That's so true. Same goes for these "possible mystics" and "possible leopards" "possible phantoms" etc. if they really thought they were that specific morph they wouldn't have the possible tag in front of it.

Dustin, feel free to call me if my "dinker" advertisements annoy you. I don't think you really know what goes on behind the scenes here when it comes to selling imported animals or unproven genetics.

As for selling normals or trying to trick people, I would never try to trick or misrepresent any animal. Offering new potential genetics from Africa I should think would be accepted with only gracious attitude.

I spent $5000 on hets this year from a snake that isn't proven genetic yet... They might be normals. It's a major part of this business, and every "dinker" I've sold I'll take back for a full refund. Every single customer has been completely blown away when they actually see animals they have purchased from me.

Just very disheartening to read your thread posts. I don't see myself offering anymore "dinkers" anytime soon.

Brant, I personally see selling imports and Cb dinkers as 2 different discussions. That's just my take on it.

I don't know who the original post in this thread was aimed at, but I see "dinkers" as a vital part of this industry. Everything proven now, was once a dinker. The first Pieds that came in the country were rejected by most of the top breeders at the time as being non-genetically linked. However, as vital as they are to this industry, I would advise anyone with a bent toward proving out new unexplored traits, to do their homework before blindly investing where no man has gone before. I don't see this as something a newbie should undertake. I am regularly tempted by some of the "dinker" stuff I see advertised, and am only held in check by the limitations I have on time and space.

PS - Brant, I am very tempted by some of the new stuff you are posting. Please feel free to send any of it my way!

i call them oddballs, or odd normals. i think it is extremely blown up as well, but alot of people who only have a few snakes and see all the subtle morphs out there get confused... i think. like with OD stuff, not to say the OD is too subtle, but i have seen numerous post of what i would say are beginners with high hopes on their normals, and simply not knowing, or fantasizing.. we all know how many posters post... is this a ------ . or need help on id with this, when it is just a normal. i have alot of love for the reptile community and feel many people out there have good intentions, but might not have done their research or might not have seen too many of the more subtle morphs in person.... i admit that looking at YB's online was confusing for me, until i saw one at a a show, and now i can pick them out of a bucket of normals.

my odd ball

Hey Dan I totally agree with you. I do not know who the OP aimed this at so I can not comment on that. I took it not at one person but in general. I think it was more that people are selling normals labeling them as dinkers to get more money. People that cannot explain any one trait or marker it has but trying to get more money. It is my feelings that until proven otherwise dinkers are normals and should be sold as such unless there is real markers there. With that said, any snake is worth what someone is willing to pay. So if someone has what they label as a dinker and finds a buyer that wants to pay $1000, then it is worth $1000. I took it as the term is being misused by people, kind of like people that have their "business name" but have 3 snakes and are producing their first clutch. Because a snake has 13 aliens verse 14 like the other two snakes this person owns does not make it a dinker. How many people have snakes that were sold as specters or possible specters from yellow belly to normal breedings that people thought they could fudge? Thats the kinda stuff I took this post as. Brant, I don't see wild caughts being within this realm of what the post means.

I wasn't pointing fingers at anyone and you are right I don't know your specific operation but if your paying nearly nothing for imported normals and turning around and selling "select dinkers" for loads of cash then in my opinion you are wrong. But hey if you can sleep with yourself at night then who cares what I or anyone else think. I was simply stating my opinion on the practice. I myself have spent a lot of money on animals with high probability of being genetic but there is a line and realistically I guess it should be on the buyer to research more. But if people weren't labeling stuff like oh this could be the next specter or this could be the next phantom, then newbies wouldn't buy into it and spend so much money. In "your" situation I've seen some that are neat looking but I've seen others that don't look like they are anything better than normal. I'm more referring to KS ads I've seen in the past though which has been progressively getting worse with time.

Like I said I've paid a pretty penny for a few dinkers myself but there's a line and hopefully you guys understand what I'm getting at.
