I was playing with my new toy (camera) last night and took several indoor pictures of Gideon. He is a Bell Het we got from Chad at the end of last year. Over the last month or so his orange sides have really begun to shine. The first three I used the flash on the last no flash. Now for the question. What is the best lights for indoor pictures? One that will not mess with the colors. I took some under a florescent light and the pictures turned out with a blueish hue over them. I know their has been mention of indoor lights before but I am having trouble locating it now. Thanks for any infor.

I really like the close ups! Beautiful Gecko!. What kind of camera are you using? I use those light bulbs that enhance natural colors I think they are called Reveal lights, if you look at the light bulb it has a blue/gray color to it. They aren't as bright and they take the blue out of pictures I noticed. They also cancel out orange in most pictures. Its a softer light compared to the bright white light bulbs. Thats funny that you asked about that because I was just experimenting with that recently. Hope it helps.

For the most part, the best thing to do is to start with some basic lighting. A dome light placed overhead with a regular bulb in it should help. The only issue with an overhead light, is that it creates some harsh shadows below the gecko. It's really all on preference. You can position on dome light on a diagonal, and then use something white/shiny to reflect that light back on another angle. If you're able to take pictures beside a window that will help light one side as well. You can also use a two dome light setup, or more.

As for the flash, it depends on the camera. Some of them you can adjust the flash intensity and style so you can have some more control. If you can't and your flash seems to be a little too bright, you can try moving back and them zooming in to take photos. That way the flash wont light up as much since you aren't as close. It's a lot of trial and error.

I would just start playing around, and see what works for you. If you can, try to use a window. Most importantly, have some patience. When we got our new camera, we took about 500 photos until we were happy. We tried a whole bunch of setups for lighting and lots of different camera settings. After all that time/photos, we found out we liked two lights, and just the default camera settings haha.

Thanks Ryan! I just took some outside, and they seem to be the best so far. I can set the intensity I just haven't figured it out yet LOL! But these I took outside with no flash. But as you mentioned already there is some strong shawdows. I think I will get a couple of domes and try the two light set up as well. Anyway these are Cinco one of our holdbacks from 05' and the second is Blossom she is from Chad and is 50% possible het for RW Albino.

That's a cool link Kelli. I was wondering about using different bulbs. Typical incandescent bulbs tend to add a little more redness to the surroundings. If I take photos during the day using window light, the photos look their best. I found that when I take photos at night, I need to use the flash on the lowest intensity with the lights, otherwise the photos look a little more red.

Do the bulbs fit typical sockets, or only those fixtures?

Mine are not the same fixtures, I use pro photography fixtures made for Tungsten lights. I believe the bulbs I use would fit in just about any fixture. You could even use the dome light fixtures from the hardware store.
