In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

A persevering pooch is winning a lot of love at the SPCA.

Miriam the pit bull was brought in late last week after someone found her near Main and Bailey in Buffalo. Miriam weighs just 20 pounds, less than half of what she should weigh at her age. SPCA officials have been slowly nursing her back to health.

The SPCA has already found a foster home for Miriam, but they could still use donations to help Miriam. You can contact them by calling 875-7360 or by visiting this website-https://secure2.convio.net/ecspca/si...95a78021.app7b.

The rest of Miriam's story-

STRUGGLING TO SURVIVE, YET STILL WAGGING HER TAIL...

On February 11, 2010, tiny Miriam came to us, so emaciated and dehydrated she couldn't, and still can't, stand. No temperature registered. She barely tips the scales at 20 pounds. Veterinary staff went to work immediately, fully aware that she might not make it through the night. As Miriam was being examined and evaluated, gently prodded and poked, she was so still, so patient, almost as though she knew we were helping her...and suddenly her tail started to wag. It only took those couple minutes for this puppy to win the hearts of everyone at the shelter.

Miriam did pull through her first night. On February 12, her temperature registered at normal. She's on fluids and meds with a limited diet. Miriam's now tucked in under 3 blankets, head resting on a pillow, unable to move but licking the hands of everyone who visits. Underneath all the blankets, we're still able to detect her tail moving up and down nonstop.

We're fully aware that, in cases this extreme, there is no guarantee Miriam will make it through another night...but with help from the community, we'd like to be able to do everything possible to help this dog survive.

EMACIATED PUP SHOWS IMPROVEMENT, MOVEMENT, ANXIOUS TO PLAY

Miriam Tries Holding Up Head Over Weekend

A tiny, emaciated puppy brought to the SPCA February 11 is showing signs of improvement.

"Miriam tried holding up her head last night at around 8 pm, and this morning was doing everything she could to garner the strength to roll in her cage," says SPCA Veterinary Service Manager Debby Williams.

Miriam is still hooked up to her medications and fluids, is on a closely monitored diet, and is growing increasingly alert. "She wants to play with everyone who visits her cage," says Williams. "Although her mind is willing, her body is not quite there yet!"

Staff members and volunteers who visit Miriam in her cage are usually treated to a lick on the nose as Miriam reaches out her paws for affection. "It's a long road ahead, but Miriam is showing every sign of being up for the fight. In cases this extreme there is never a guarantee on what's going on internally, and we know we can lose her at any minute. We force ourselves not to think about that part, and focus on what her immediate needs are hour by hour. Fortunately, the many visitors she receives helps to keep her mind stimulated; we just have to ensure there is no over-stimulation that might lead to frustration."

Donate money now.....

They need to help payoff senators to assure that the python ban passes.

I feel bad for the dog but the ASPCA can join HSUS and PETA in kissing my butt. :bleep:

From the Erie County SPCA website-

*The SPCA Serving Erie County opened its doors in February of 1867...we're the second-oldest humane society in the country (second only to the American SPCA, which is not a national SPCA "headquarters," but a completely independent organization. As stated above, our SPCA is a LOCAL HUMANE SOCIETY, not financially supported by, or a part of, any other local or national animal welfare group. We are NOT a branch of the ASPCA.).

Well now..... Don't I feel like a turd.

If that is a local humane society then I applaud them since they are the ones that really do the hard work and get little recognition.

Don't feel bad Matt, I was about to post the same type of response too. It's a shame that such organizations such as peta hsus or what ever their initials are, have made us so cynical of any SPCA. I know that I am and from what I have read of this sea steward or what ever he is with the whaling thing has just made me sick to my stomach of them. I am a horrid animal lover. I take in all kinds of strays that get dropped off over here in my neck of the woods. We live on a dirt back road and see it all dumped over here and many end up at my door for food and I never hesitate to feed one. BUT what I have seen of the other organizations really do make me NEVER want to donate to any of them.
Now with that said :) where is this animal shelter

No problem.

I DO understand everyone's issues with the ASPCA, HSUS & PETA.

The Yelp for Help program at my SPCA also funded the dental extractions for my Beagle, who I adopted from them.

When I got him from the SPCA, nobody had been able to check his teeth, but all 6 of his upper incisors were broken-probably from cage chewing...he was a puppy mill dog who was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Virginia by the PetSmart Rescue Waggin & PetSmart Charities.

Anyhow-when I got him home, I noticed the condition of his teeth and called the SPCA, and they made an appointment with their veterinary dentist, and they did all the work for free.

They really do a LOT for the animals in the area...free rabies vaccine clinics, free emergency boarding in crisis situations, cremation of deceased pets, etc.

Donna I have suggested that they start taking paypal to make donations easier. I do hope others on here will make a donation. When we find someone that truly is doing good and one of our members here can vouche for them, we really need to do something so that we are not just takers but also givers. We want support for our cause, we need to support others in their work as well. Let them know that your donation is from Reptile keepers on Fauna Classifieds that way they will also think when they hear our issues needing support as well as hopefully get them to notice this site too. Just my 2cents worth.

Thank you, Kathy!!

That is a good idea!!

And any donations above and beyond what Miriam may need goes into a pot for other animals-like my Timmy-who need extraordinary care!!

Mr. Happy-pants thanks you ALL in advance for helping the animals at the SPCA of Erie County, NY!!!
