    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I totally agree! I think that the karma points are a great (and convenient) way to give someone credit for a really good post.

what i have noticed and would like to know what is a karma that is neither red or green
i have two that say nice things but the karma circle is grey
could anyone enlighten me on this tid bit
 
That simply means the person giving you the karma did not have any karma power. So although you received the nice comments, your own karma total did not increase. Essentially it's a neutral karma.
 
what happens if that person obtains karma power

Nope - no retro karma here.
You'll just have to impress that person again after they have some power to yield.

The kharma system is stupid, prone to abuse, and the way I smell it, soon to be a thing of the past. Along with a lot of other lynch mob tools. Pun intended.

It's just a bell/whistle kind of thing. Karma means nothing....doesn't alter your ability to post, your reputation with other people, or muck around with your annual income. WS put in some controls so that it abusing the system is difficult to do. As for whether or not it's stupid...well, I think it's a "toy" and is used as such.

I agree completely - it is a toy.
But we also need to consider the effect that this toy has on people here.

I have stated previously that I think the Karma System is essentially detrimental.
I believe there are those whose posts are made for one reason, and one reason only, to acquire karma from other members.

The "Karma Whores" fall into two categories (in my opinion).

Those who choose to belittle others and hope to gain the (karma) and respect of the other bullies on the playground.

Those who take a more subtle approach and whose posts are nothing but "fluff"; designed to tug at the heartstrings or sensibility of other members here in an effort to raise their own value within their own minds or within the community.

Maybe we should come up with a system to deliver "Karma Bombs" to those that feel they need this certification.

We could pick a person who is trying very hard to gain the approval of the forum, or is simply pissing everyone else off and deliver them a "Karma Bomb" (either positive or negative) from multiple members of the site.

At the very least, a few Karma Bombs might help to alleviate some of the internal bickering that has been going on lately.
 
And just who would be in charge of such bombs? Is it a position held for life or does it change? How is it assigned?

The whole karma thing, in my opinion, would be best of removed entirely.
 
I don't consider myself a Karma whore...but I think I got one of those Karma bombs today (at least a test version, lol)
 
I think the whole Karma thing is somewhat useful.....one can't always put a lot of weight on it, but it gives a general idea of a person, IMO. That, and it's nice to be able to give someone a little something for making an exceptionally good (or bad) post....though I hand out 50 times more positives than I do negatives.

I agree with Mike's points, however....those who post here strictly for the drama and karma need a bomb dropped on them, lol.

After getting my fourth Karma hit from you, all of them the negative type, where you go out of your way to type in your elongated childish diatribe of comments, are you sure you want to lose it ? :rofl: Perhaps you are finally acknowledging your own lack of self control !!

It has its pros and cons, but I say to let it stand, with limited comment opportunity (20 keystrokes). There are abuses, "karma whores", and conspiracies to stroke each other's bones. Unavoidable, unless Rich can figure something else out. The current safeguards do help limit abuse. If they do invent "karma bombs" I WANT THE TO BE ABLE TO LIGHT A COUPLE OF THOSE FUSES !!
 
How soon we forgot the "battle for the reputation points"...In my opinion the karma system should be removed completely. It was a nice attempt but it proved to be no different than the previous system. If you agree or disagree with someone type it for everyone to see. Both reputation points and karma did only one thing, show the hubris of some at their best. We could probably even go one step further, and delete the "number of posts". Doing so would level the field between the new members and those that have been here for eons. Each person will have to earn their reputation on a daily basis, and not rely on past earned laurels from both constructive and destructive behavior.

Just an opinion.
