I have a Sugar Glider that we raised from a joey and last year an unfortunate accident happened where he pulled some thread out of his pouch and ended up wrapping it around his ankle. His leg had to be surgically removed and in the recovery process something happened with his ear that stopped circulation and it dried up which the vet removed as well. His name is Merlin and he is actually a spontaneous white tip sugar glider. Not a lot of white, but enough to be considered a white tip. He was born in Texas and the wholesaler didn't even know he was a white tip when she sold him to my friend's pet store in a lot of 10 so that's where the "spontaneous" comes in as he wasn't bred to be a white tip. We paid $200 for him as a joey and $300 for the surgery.(have all receipts) We hoped that he would be able to breed with the handicap but he has yet to impregnate any female in his colony so we are offering him up for adoption. He does require some special needs as he needs to be washed with a washcloth as he has a hard time grooming and develops matted chunks of fur if not groomed ect. He is generally a sweetheart and has good temperament, (doesn't crab ect) but he has a habit of nibbling your finger when handled as he thinks he is getting treats. With proper handling and care I'm sure this behavior can be modified. It is unfortunate that it has come to this, but with all our other projects it is becoming a hassle to independently care for him and his special needs. We love him and he will always be a part of the original Micro Zoo Kits crew, so yes you will have to have some previous glider experience and agree to feed him what he has been raised on. We will miss him dearly but feel this is the best thing for both of us. Preferably looking for an older gal with a good heart that will give him the love he deserves.
