In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Spelling and Grammar....it's getting worse!

Another thing that I want to add to spelling and grammar is PUNCTUATION! I realize that I'm not perfect (I tend to do a lot of this "........" ), and I don't expect every comma to be perfectly placed by any means, but how many times recently have we seen this?

"i was at the pet store yesterday and they had this snake and i asked how much it was and the guy said it was like 50 bucks and so i thought cool what a deal so i bought it but then when i got it home it was puking cottage cheese type stuff so i took it back and asked the dude what was wrong with it and he said it was fine that was normal and i was like dude what is your deal give me my money back but he wouldnt so he is a jerk but he finally gave me a new snake and that one has no cottage cheese puke so im happy and think i got a good deal what do u think?"

Just reading those one-giant-sentence, paragraphless (is that a word?) posts makes my brain hurt.

Well that was horrible Cathy, did you find that or type it haha? I personally see no need for proper speech and/or writing in any case that doesn't involve professionalism

Let me go ahead and say, I do consider making a deal here on Fauna or making a business call a professional issue. I also think that when trying to persuade or propose, proper language is a great thing. In everyday talk though, why should someone be expected to talk a certain way?

LOL, I made it up as I typed.....but there are plenty of examples to be found around of similar writing. I thought of that reading a post somewhere on here last night, I forget exactly where now.

Personally, I think that especially on the internet, what we write (and say) is what we are being judged on. If we have the skills and just choose to be lazy and not use them, I feel that reflects on how we may do things in other aspects of our lives. I also know people that have had little formal education, but have taken it upon themselves to learn proper skills on their own, and are much better people for it.....as well as probably being more respected.

Well yes, if your business is ran in part here at Fauna of course you should try to always be proper. As you said, it will earn you respect and make you look better. When I have time I try to write as I should, but when I am in a rush I'll write as sloppy and improper as anyone; It is wrong to judge one for that. I also think it is wrong to judge one because of what region of the country or world one lives in. Southern people say things different from northern people, the enviroment one is raised in Will shape them. You guys don't really think that it is lazy to not type with proper grammar, syntax, etc. when chatting do you? When you see a friend on the street? I hope you would not judge someone for the way they may talk or write in things dealing with their personal affairs. I do understand why you might judge someone for being 'lazy' in their professsional/occupational affairs.

That is one of the scariest statements I have seen yet.

So let me get this straight Chris. You are saying that unless it involves a professional (business) situation, it does not behoove anyone to speak / write to the best of their ability?

I have to say that I, absolutely, judge someone on the internet 100% by the way they present themselves. If they write like a mentally deficient 8 year old I treat them as such. I think you will find that the majority feels the same wa

Your statement, at 18 years of age, proves my point and depresses the Hell out of me.

The proper expression of your thoughts to both friends and strangers is a direct reflection of both your character, and of the respect that you offer to others.

Personally, I would feel much better judging someone by their character. I see it more important to treat others right and type like a idiot than to type right and be a complete d*ck. John don't try to tell me you never slack, that you are never laid back, that when chatting you are sure to go back and make everything just perfect before you send your IM.

I disagree Mike, because some of my friends chat with me online with no punctuation at all I don't take it as disrespect. The quality of friendship has nothing to do with how they type in an INFORMAL situation.

Dude, talk witjo frns hwevr u lik

But, if you want to be taken seriously, to have any respect at all, to be considered more than a punkass kid that doesn't care, you may want to re-think how you appear to strangers.

As an employer, occasional teacher, parent and stickler for doing your best all the time not just when it's convenient, I do judge those I don't know by all information I have on them, be it a simple chat or an actual conversation. How you write does count to those who don't know you and/or are not your friends already.

Your opinion of how much that matters makes no difference in the world, those who can do you ill as well as good will judge you by how you appear.

If you want to appear as less than you say you are, go right on using netbabble, it's a free country and there will always be a need for burgerflippers. It sucks but it's true.

What he said!!!

Chris it is one thing to be sitting around with your friends throwing back a few cold ones.... or even chatting with friends, but a forum is a very public place and not just you hanging or chatting with your friends only.

Here's what I tell my kids when I teach them about things like manners, politeness, proper speech and such.....

When you practice things like manners on a day to day basis, it becomes second nature, and it is not something that you have to think about before doing. If you have to stop and think about whether you need to be chewing with your mouth closed or not.....isn't that more difficult than just chewing with your mouth closed all of the time? Is it that much more difficult to speak properly and politely to everyone, or would it be simpler to stop and think just how you should speak to each person before speaking to them?

Sure, as Sammy said, things are bound to be different to an extent with your buddies.....but when posting on a forum where lots of people who are NOT your friends are reading as well, why is it such a big deal to present yourself in an adult, educated manner?

Well I live in a hick town and around here words like ain't, cain't, hat'n, and all those words you here on blue collar comedy are real. Ha I'm just kidding around.. sort-of. I think I've just misunderstood the direction of your argument on this thread, so please nevermind me.

 What does hat'n mean??

I've been given lessons in how to speak "Arkie" (Arkansas lingo, lol) but that must have been in a lesson I missed, lol. ;)
