In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

These are second or third generation captive-bred.
Feeding on snails, tadpoles, guppies, insects, pellets.

Too young to sex confidently.

WAY past the delicate stage. They are robust and growing fast.

Does not include shipping.

The first three photos are of the first two turtles. The fourth photo is of the third turtle.

I've been fooled before when trying to sex them at this size. They always look female... until they don't. All I can say is that my eggs incubate "naturally" in my pen, and the ones I've raised to maturity over the years have mostly turned out to be female. This week, found a spotted turtle in my pond that's only a little larger than the ones I have for sale, and it's a definite male and I'm excited, because I needed another male for my breeding group.

Spotted Turtles

OK, I am interested in the first two spotted turtles. I was dealing with a guy on Kingsnake (Jeff Serrao) and he dissappeared on me. I am not into games as I am 67 years old. I am responsible for the Sentz line Pyros and have a long history with some of the top breeders in Maryland. Actually, your animals are some of the best I have seen.

Please text or call be asap as I am ready to throw down some money tonight.

Thank you

Spotted Turtles

Hello Bill, I just got a message from a person in Colorado who said Spotted Turtles are illegal in North Carolina? I heard if you have the proper documents stating the turtle was captive bred in another State (where they are legal) that it would be ok to have them.

If they are in fact illegal in NC, what are the rules for South Carolina? These turtles were actually supposed to be a gift for my brother in South Carolina. I guess I could have them shipped directly to him in SC if the NC laws prohibit them here?

Could you please set the record straight for me.
Again, thanks for your help

Hi. You should update your location field to reflect the current city and state. Thank you.

For whatever reason, the majority of the captive hobby outside of NC is unaware that Spotteds are completely legal to own in NC as of 2016 when laws were changed making it legal to buy and sell turtles within the state. They fall under the same laws as all other native reptiles, maximum 4 total natives without a permit, up to 25 total with a permit given they are not an “endangered”, “threatened”, or “species of special concern”. Now with that said, all native turtles, and especially Eastern Box Turtles and Spotted Turtles are on the radar of wildlife officials. So best practice would be to confirm they are captive bred, request paper working stating they are, and keep those records so for whatever reason if you decide to sell them one day and NCWRC comes knocking asking if they were collected, you will have viable proof that they were in fact captive bred.

Now SC on the other hand, they are 100% protected and completely illegal to keep as of 10/2020 when HB4831 passed. There was a 6 month period to register animals for grandfathered status but that window has since closed and you can no longer keep, buy, sell, or transfer them within the state or across state lines.

The reason most of us don’t know about the changes in NC law is that people don’t take down old information. With the info you just gave us (thank you!), I should be able to search and find the new details.
Also, M I the only one who gets different answers from different people in State agencies? It can be like pulling teeth to get actual information about turtle laws.

Confirming what dprivetts stated earlier. Absolutely legal to keep Spotted Turtles in NC. I have spoken to NCFW at length many times over the years about this and as long as they’re listed on your possession permit they are perfectly legal to keep. They used to be listed as “special concern” years ago and protected but not any more.

I appreciate all the information. I spoke with NCFW on the phone and confirmed. It seems there's an import/export permit that's needed for a NC resident to bring a spotted turtle into the state.

yes, NC lifted law many years ago. only two things protected are diamondback terrapin (regardless the subspecies which is weird) and bog turtle.

SINGLE SPOTTED TURTLE

I would like to purchase your spotted turtle. My name is Pat Kelly, live in California, believe they are legal here. You can call me at 760 638-1366.
