    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I am fairly ticked at this site, for a couple of reasons......I used to be a frequent poster/visitor there, until I built my own site and spent much of my time working on it....well, since I was very proud of my work, I decided to put a link to it in my signature there.....I was not aware that it was against the rules. They dleted my link from my signature w/out my knowledge and proceeded to instead put a bunch of *******s in order to screw up the link.......well, I have since switched hosts and now am hosted by RTB.net......but I have image galleries on several other forums that are hosted by the server my forum used to be on......and because they share some of the same URL, I cannot post pics on SsnakesS.com.....I asked one moderator there why I couldn't post pics that weren't even hosted by my site which doesn't even EXIST anymore and they told me that I was "spamming" the board!!!! WTF??

For this reason I am no longer visiting this site and I have taken my site off their top-list. Oh, and if you say the word 'retarded' it gets ****'d out too.....LMFAO.
 
I see where you are coming from. but you should always email or Pm the admin before posting links in your sig.I did here before I posted a link to TRR.

I might be a member there I am not sure lmao. But every forum has their own rules and they do as they wish. But like you are doing you can choose not to go to or view their forums.
 
Yeah, I probably should've checked with them first, but jeez....I can't even post PICS now? LOL....Thats just ridiculous. Oh well, theres plenty of forums out there I like better. :)
 
I have not had a problem linking to photos from my RTB gallery or any other gallery to the ssnakess boards.
 
If you cant link pictures from your site to mine then its obviously your lack of understanding in how to do so... No sites other then kingsnake.com have been blocked from linking pics and that was done because it was done to ssnakess.com.... You were told you were spamming for posting blatent "CHECK OUT MY SITE" "COME TO MY SITE" etc posts which are not allowed... No sites URL are blocked for being mentioned in posts like what other forums do you go to, etc... What is not allowed is posts for the sole purpose of spamming the boards for your own gain... If you were unaware of the rules then read the rules and regulations or pm me or any other moderator and ask...
 
I haven't had any problems with ssnakess.com BUT...

I did have the same problem David had when trying to link a picture. I placed a small picture of a lightbulb with ears into my "gallery space" on the Reptile Room and tried to add it to a thread on ssnakess.com awhile later. The picture didn't load, I assumed I simply used the wrong URL or board code and edited my post... The board had turned the url into a series of asterix (What is the plural of asterix anyway?) after the "http://www." and before the final ".com"

I had tried to add the url to some post on KS previously (Didn't realize it couldn't be mentioned, the link was supposed to be to Jerry Conways website, which is KS hosted) and the board had edited it in the same manner so I assumed that novogate was off limits for whatever reason and loaded the picture onto either my earthlink or AOL ftp space, replaced the url in the post and it worked perfectly.

Not sure if it's a mistake for whatever reason, but there DOES seem to be a URL filter in place for more than just KS. It also may not be of any consequence but... banning URLs is kinda what some people dislike about the way KS is being run. It's indicative of a larger problem... I know KS banned other URLs first, but is it really reasonable to ban them back? It seems to be an action born out of spite, no offense intended... Rich tried something similar here for a short time but scrapped it fairly quickly. Despite the problems KS has, there are a lot of good and entirely independant sites which just happen to be hosted through them, banning the URL denies your message board users access to otherwise GREAT information (information in no way, shape or form related to the problems people have had with KS or Barringer). Just a thought, take it for what it's worth (The opinion of one person, nothing more, nothing less).
 
There definitely IS a URL filter on SsnakesS. If you type in http://novogate.com it will be *******'d out. All of my pics are hosted by forums on Novogate even though my own forum no longer is. I asked a mod named Matt why the URL was still being filtered and he ignored my question.
 
Actually you are right, there are a couple more sites that have been filtered for abuse.... Meaning the owner spammed more then 10 forums, then is PM'd, continued and was banned... Created another alias and continued to do so... If you cant ban the individual who is spamming due to a IP like AOL, what else can you do but to block the site?? There is a huge differance between what kingsnake does and what I do... I am blocking the name because of spam... Kingsnake bans other sites that are forums, or ones he feels are a "threat"... I personally could care less that there are other reptile forums out there and think each and every one is a asset to the herp community. I convinced Rich to make a Canadian Board of Inquiry and tell everyone to use it... sSNAKESs.com is there for those who want to use it, if people like it then they stay, if they dont, like Mr. Beard here then they dont... there are a ton of greats sites that have alot of great infomation and people will use whatever one they want to... No site is blocked from my site unless it was due to public spam, people complaining about PM spam and I hear more then 10 complaints, and there is no other option on getting it to stop... If people are discussing which sites they frequent, what sites they like, etc etc I could care less, but when people are posting 1 line "LOOK AT MY SITE" "CHECK OUT MY SITE" and taking up room in a already over populated general discussion forum then it will be moved into the bad threads.... Running a board is not as easy as you think it would be... If it was easy then everyone would have a successful site... The #1 thing you need to realize is you cant please everyone... The site is safe for herpers of all ages, as trouble free as it can get, and I think the crowd of people there are a great bunch... I try to run it as fairly and unbiased as possible but again, you cant please them all...
 
You were also banned and now after you come back with a fake alias and new ip you are complaining because you cant post pictures because your domain name is still banned??

Understandable, just the earlier post indicated that only one site was blocked in this manner, but a few are. You don't really need justification to do so on your site, but the fact that you have it is a good thing... I think both and Rich run your forums communally, allowing the members to add a great deal of imput into how things happen. The final say is and must always be yours, but I fully understand blocking a repeatedly spammed URL.

That's understood as well. In re-reading my earlier post, my choice of wording was poor. I merely see some situations where you *might* be throwing the baby out with the bath water... For example, the KS url filter also blocks links to sites hosted by but otherwise unaffiliated with KS... Or a novogate web filter may have been put into place due to one site, but it hosts multiple sites, not all of which are guilty. Of course, you're the one who dealt with the problem and I'm speaking based off assumptions (the assumption that one hosted site caused a problem), I'm not questioning your judgement in the least, merely pointing out that there may be an unfortunate and unavoidable flaw. Thankfully I think most the posters are aware enough of the existance of other herp related forums/web hosts so that they can assume the blocked URL to be a known one and fill it in on their own if they choose to do so.
 
Its good to know that you are still on the site under another name after being banned previously... Here is a quote from your Welcome to the forums post...

Congrats on getting a domain name for your site, and good luck with the venture... I hope that you can bring a better level of maturity and leadership to the table to have your site succeed, then you have brought to my forums to result in your banning...

If you are banned for legitimite reasons, why go onto the BOI and make a fuss over something that you are at fault for?? It seriously makes no sense and if you are feeling wronged, you should email me [email protected] and explain why you were banned etc and I would have let you return....
 
Seamus, totally understandable and thanks for the kind words! I should have re worded what I had written better aswell! :) I just get aggrivated when people feel the need to lash out at the site after they have been banned for legitimate reasons... I have never just banned someone for the sake of banning someone and they are always given numorous chances, and I have even kept some members who have been banned from every site out there after getting emails from there admins telling me about him and they have turned a new leaf and look like they are through with the internet trolling... :D

Hey Gary, it shouldnt affect it at all with the domain name unless you used the novogate... I will remove the generic novogate thing so it definately wont be a problem! :D
 
LOL....I posted a link to my old site ONCE in the general discussions forum. The thread stayed up for quite a while actually. What I don't get is why alot of the people who run message boards get bent our of shape if someone posts a link to another forum.....perhaps I see things differently. I don't view the other reptile boards as "competition" and I think every one of them has a place in our community. O personally think we as herpers should spend more time building each other up instead of letting our egos and pride get in the way. There are far too many people out there who would like to see us fall. Inner turmoil only helps reinforce the likelihood that it may happen.

Yes, I was banned from SsnakesS once in the past....as I was KS a few times. I will not try and hide my not-so-perfect past. Yet so many are quick to point out my faults. I think that people who only focus on the negative aspects of others are only trying to compensate for themselves......whatever the case may be.

I am not attacking you Jeff or anyone else....just offering my words. I have no problem whatsoever with people posting links to sites on my forums, as long as they are within my TOS (no porn, etc.).....in fact I welcome and encourage links to be posted, for the reasons I stated in my first section of this post. I just thought my inability to post a picture because it shared the same URL of my old site was kind of extreme....thats all.

I know I've probably rambled quite a bit throughout this post but so be it, lol. Happy herping everyone! :)
 
David, I respect your thoughts on this but you are missing the point as to why they get moved.... Its not that its a forum that the post is linked to when they get moved, the moderators are supposed to move all threads that are to any site in the general discussion if they are just links to sites... I am in 100% agreement with you that we should work together but at the same time if you cant let your general discussions or herp forums turn into a huge advertisement! :p Its very difficult to moderate what should and shouldnt be deemed appropriate to keep things in order aswell as in the best interest of your members and I havent always made the best decisions and alot of the times had to make decisions for the good of the site against my own personal thoughts etc.... I hope there are no hard feelings and if you would like to be unbanned regardless of if you plan on posting just let me know and I will reverse it. :) As stated above, good luck with the canopy, it looks great so far! :)
 
Just to clarify... Not all posts with links to sites are to be removed but posts like "Come check out my site" then all that is in the post is a link to a site... That to me is considered spam, but if people are talking about web sites or what sites they like, where to go for info, where is the boi, etc etc then there is no problem! :)
 
David, I just checked over my logs and the reason you were banned was because I had 13 people complain to me that you were spamming them with pms with your old URL for your old website... After I recieve 10 complaints I feel it should be taken care of... That is also why I had made the novothing.com show up as stars as a way to stop this... I actually had posted a thread here regarding this type of thing when it was happening :)

No hard feelings at all, Jeff. I'm not going to take something like this personal, lol. I can definitely understand why a webmaster would be upset if they spent lots of time and effort into building a site and then a bunch of people came and spammed the hell outta thir board.....I would be angry at that as well...I just didn't see my situation as being that severe or really all that big a deal. If one of the frequent posters from SsnakesS was to come over to The Canopy and say "Hey, come check this site out, it rules!"......I would not have a problem with it at all. But thats just me and how I would handle it. My way is not the right way or the only way.....just my way, lol.

I hope it didn't seem like I was "basing" you or SsnakesS....I was just venting. I know I can say some stupid things when I get worked up, but I think I'm getting a better grasp on it, lol.

If you would have me back on your site, then I'd love to come back. Was my 'Beardonicus' alias banned as well? Sorry, I haven't been over there in a couple of day. Yes, I remember the PMs I sent out. I realize now that was in bad taste. You had every right to be upset about that and I apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused you. I suppoose I was excited about my creation and wanted to share it, lol.....but thats no excuse.

BTW-Thanks for the compliments on my site, I have had some help from friends because I am not the most techno-savvy guy, lol.....so I can't take all the credit. :D
