Stan Ruppel - Can you trust his word?

I am looking to buy a snake from him and requested pictures since this particular snake is identified by visual traits. It is a classic jungle ball python. He sent me a REALLY bad picture and said that was the best he could do since he has a crappy camera. I could not make out any detail in the pic but he said he GUARENTEE'S the snake to be what he claims. I am looking for a "real" jungle not just a "jungleish looking" snake. I wanted the pic to see the top of the head, the pattern, the eyes, the labials, etc. The only thing you can make out from the pic is the pattern.
Has anyone dealt with him based just upon his word? Will I get what I am buying? Too many rip-off artists lately and I want to get some feedback before the money changes hands.
Let me know your experiences with him. Thanks.

This isn't your normal BP and I'm hesitant on spending the cash without being able to confirm what the snake looks like. I don't want to overpay and end up getting just a pretty normal male BP.
Anyone dealt with him recently by buying a snake just upon how he represents it? How did it turn out? What is represented correctly.
 
I have had contact with Stan Ruppel. I was very interested in getting a pastel male from his line. I e-mailed him back in April I believe (have ALL the e-mails)...anyway, he told me that I was the first to reply and that I was at the top of the list and get first pick. I was so stoked. Then I saw that he had 2 ghost females for sale...I was interested also in them and asked for pics. I was told that ones would be sent...nothing. When I inquired again he said he had sold them...ok...no big deal, so I thought. I periodically kept in touch with him to find out the status about the pastels. He gave me half answers and said to continue to wait---since they weren't hatched. Well all of a sudden I look on kingsnake one day and he is selling them and only had a few left...when I got ahold of him he said he had more clutches on the way. Now what about "you are at the top of the list and get first pick" did I misunderstand. He should have contacted me and checked his list. I contacted him and tried again to get into them...pretty much trying to throw my money with him...He then raised the price of the animals (which is fine...the market for his animals when up and he has the right to do what he wants)...but it was a little distrusting to find out....higher price, picked over when promised first, and NO CONTACT unless I inquired....

So what is the point of taking the effort to contact a person when it isn't reciprically practiced.

I am not saying his animals were/are not good, but in this business and the modern day of scandals and forgotten jargon....a kept word and business-like contact is key....

this is just my dealings with him....

I hope I do not regret this.
I spoke with Stan on the phone and thru several emails about this snake. I am keeping all my correspondence on it just in case.
Anyway, his exact words were "I guarentee it is a classic jungle ball python".
I am taking his word for it since I can't tell from the lousy pic he sent me.
I payed him for the snake and it should be arriving on Tuesday.
Lets hope me trusting him doesn't come back to bite me since I have passed on a real jungle to complete this deal.
If this is not a classic jungle male, it is being sent back and I will purchase one from the guy who provided many, many pictures (thanks Rob) of his snake for sale.
We'll see next week what happens and I will post either a good guy thread or a bad guy thread on this board based upon what arrives at my door.

Honestly I hope it is a True Jungle Classic for you. If it is you are getting a really good price on it. We will see your post on Tuesday when you receive it.
 
I was going to buy a pied from him, he said he was getting him on a certain date and gave me a price, later the price jumped up $1500 and he said I misunderstood him. He said he may have some available at a later date for the price we agreed upon. I would recomend 1 thing and that is to try to get info through email and take what he says on the phone with a grain of salt. He did seem like a nice enough guy, I just did not care for how things worked out on our deal. Craig Kade

I would think that anyone who is selling high end animals at those prices should have a good camera. Yes, they cost money. I would think it is the part of doing business. I have seen alot of the animals that he has bred and has been a broker for. They as a rule have been nice. I also live in Wisconsin, but Stan does no shows here.

unimpressed with Mr. Ruppel

A while back he posted that he was looking for adult female pastels. I contacted him about one that I had. I was very up front and told him that she was a picky eater and weighed a little less than he was looking for. Stan emailed me back asking for me to lower the price. I agreed. No response from Stan. Two weeks later I emailed him to find out if he was interested or not. He responded with a definite YES and said the money would be on its way within a week. After a couple more weeks went by I just gave up worrying about Mr Ruppel and whether he was going to buy the snake or not.

Needless to say....I won't be holding any more animals on just Mr. Ruppels word. Too bad I guess, I was planning on buying some of his funky pastels this year. Now I'll just wait till someone else produces them.

Stan called me the other day and the BP will be arriving Wed or Thurs. It sounds like this is going to be a really great purchase from our conversation on the phone.

I will post pics and the details when it gets here.

Like I said before I hope he arrives and truly is a Classic Jungle. Just be sure to let us know when it arrives and then you can post positive feedback on him yourself.
 
I Trusted Him

I bought a good sized 4.5' male hypo from Stan almost a year ago and had no problems with the snake or dealing with Stan whatsoever. The animal was as represented and he shipped airport to airport to guarantee live arrival in the cold weather. I wouldn't hesitate to work with him again.

When he called he said he had a lot of things to send out later in the week and would call me the night before with the tracking info so it will be coming either Wed or Thurs. I don't know which day yet though but I will post when it arrives.
 
Stan if you see this please check your email and reply so I will know when you are sending the jungle ball.

I responded to a ad Stan ran some time ago for Pastel Jungle female 1000gram or larger-I responded & he agreed that really wanted my 1400g Pastel!! He stated he would contact w/ monies & shipping arrangements in a week! So, 10-12 days later I contacted him since I had not heard from him!! He siad I would be receiving a money order in about 2 weeks!! So I waited again & again no response!! I contacted him again & he said he had "NO MONEY" to buy the snakes he already made ageements to buy-"SORRY!"
Oh,yea back to the positive post-I still own my adult pastel jungle & hope to breed her to my adult male & get lucky enough to produce super pastels!!! NOW -that's a "POSITIVE POST"

I have seen "classic jungles" for sale before

but really do not know what they are exactly. What will make it any different than a normal, what characteristics will positively make it a classic jungle? Who has one, other than this one to compare it too? Are they genetic?
 
A true jungle has a black mustache, very light golden eyes, a pale spot on the top of the head, and an irregular pattern. As juveniles they are bright yellow and black but darken with age. As adults they retain the light spot on the top of the head and the light eyes but that's about it

Look at the eyes. If they are not black but gold colored, you have a jungle. That is about the best indicator of this type of BP.

The trait is polygenetic meaning there is no way of knowing what causes it to show up. It's not like the dominant, recessive, or co-dom traits which are linked to a single gene.

If you see an ad for a jungle, look at the eyes, they stand out. A "junglish" BP will not have the gold eyes. A lot of people post jungle BP's but unless it has the light eyes, the spot, and the black on the labials pass on it. It's not a true jungle.

The first thing I am checking when this one comes is the eyes. Since it is a true classic jungle, the eyes will definitely be light colored. He sent a pic where I can make out the pattern but I couldn't verify the light spot or the eye color from the pic so I bought it based upon his guarentee that it was a true classic jungle BP.

I currently have a female true jungle and wanted this male to go with her so I know exactly what to look for to verify whether or not it is a true jungle BP.

When he arrives, I will post pics of him so if anyone is interested you will be able to see what to look for.
