In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I think I'm missing something here, I read most of the articles but I don't know which article "that article!" might reference. A month, year and title would be most helpful for those of us not privy to your previous discussion about this article.

There was a previous discussion? lol.
I still think she should write them herself since she clearly had major concerns about both the failure to include certain information & the accuracy of the information included.

I think you guys need to lighten up, its just an opener for people to discuss the article - Im guessing its about monkey tailed skinks, a species that seem to be the most commonly discussed in this board, and so anyone that has anything to say would already know which article was being referred to.

Living in UK, I dont get the magazine and so cant discuss it further. Im guessing though that it mentions that monkey tailes are an egg-laying species..? Ive had more than one person confuse that in the past, I must say.

Monkey tailed skinks may well be the most commonly discussed SKINK (though I don't know that for certain) - but there are others, and this is NOT strictly a skink forum, in case you hadn't noticed. If she was striving for "discussion" about the article, a simpler way to approach it would have been to identify the article in question, and either make a statement or ask a question. As it is, all she said was "which one of us is going to write into Reptiles magazine to correct all the misinformation and missing information in that article". I still cast my vote for her, since she is still the only one that really knows what her issue with the article is. (even if she had followed that statement up with some legitimate commentary on the so-called misinformation, she might have gotten some discussion out of it)

Have to agree with Mr Moore here.. I have the magazine, and had no idea what article it wsa that she was talking about, and since that was the case, I also supported her righting the wrongs.

Just to go on a wee tangent here.. what mags do you guys reckon is the best of a bad lot? For example, I finf most of them to be reasonably accurate, and always on the edge with trying to keep the newbie informed, but also interesting the not so new.. some are better than others, what would be your favourite/recommended?

I thought I'd start this one over and shut down that other thread.

The Dec 07 Reptiles magazine article just came out with a horrid article about Prehensile Tailed Skinks. The author didn't even do the simplest of google searches to find the recent information regarding the two subspecies Corucia zebrata zebrata and Cz alfredschmidti.

Also, a caption under a picture stated that a female PTS was guarding it's "EGGS"... a statement that is about as wrong as it gets.

The whole article was so bad and out-dated it makes me feel that from now on I should read their articles as entertainment, not as fact.

Unfortunate.

I'm certainly willing to write a letter, and I probably will. I just thought we might come together as a group and hit on some key items.

Thoughts (from PTS owner/breeders)?
Lisa

Let's just shut this thread down...

... I've started another one with more info.

As far as Im aware, the skink community here are familiar with Guitrldy and, to reiterate, anyone that would have been able to contribute would have known which article was in question - and certainly wouldnt need to respond in, what I felt, was such an abrasive manner if they did not. I dont even get the magazine but I got the gist of what it was about. Now that everyone knows, does anyone have anything productive to say about the content of the article?

Ill message you Lisa.

I'm not a member of the skink community and I'm not familiar with Ms. Wil. I'm also not as smart as you and I was unable to figure out what "article" the original post was referencing. The current issue is only about lizards and has 6 to 8 feature articles, at the time I didn't do a head count to see how many were about tegus and skinks. I didn't even know it was about the current issue.

I was only requesting simple information that almost anyone else would have provided initially. I'm a snake person and I wouldn't know new from old information about Corucia zebrata zebrata and Cz alfredschmidti, perhaps a little pre-discussion would have been nice. That's how we learn.

I've tired of all this. I'm going to read the other article on that other lizard and hope it's correct. I'll report back if I see anything funny.

I've moved this discussion over to the Yahoo Corucia group.

And thanks johelian for taking the high road and being an adult in her responses.

Did I miss something? When did this forum become the skink and tegu discussion page? Last time I was here it was just skink discussion. I'm not complaining, just pointing out that I am accustomed to discussing issues about skinks on this page with others who have similar interests and therefore not used to filling in all the possible background details when bringing up a topic to discuss about skinks. This is probably the way the original post was was meant.

It is nice that there are people who are interested in species which they have little experience, but jumping all over a post meant for those with experience is a little harsh. A simple request for background info would have been enough.

That being said, I agree that the article in question was poorly researched and provided much misinformation. The egg reference was my personal favorite, although I am upset that there was also no information about the sub-species that we have spent so much time discussing on this very board in the past (for those unfamiliar, a search for Corucia zebrata alfredschmidti will enlighten). I would like to send the author, at the very least, a link to those threads and a request to double check basic zoological facts before publishing. It does make me wonder about the information presented about other rare species that have been profiled in past issues.

Thank you Lisa for bringing this topic up for discussion.

Kisha and johelian - you should be a little more careful in assuming that somebody doesn't know something, or when commenting on a person's experience level. Just because I don't involve myself in your little play group does not mean that I am not familiar with guitrldy, or that I don't have working experience with Corucia.

Wow, I think I will also join this discussion in a friendlier environment. Too bad, I used to really enjoy discussions on this site. Now it seems you can't say much with out getting jumped on. I've seen this happen in other areas and am sorry to see it happening here.

Excuse me? I dont believed that I commented on anyones experience level. Maybe you should be a little more careful to re-read someones posts before assuming that theyre saying something? Im surprised then that you didnt deduce the content without having to respond so abruptly. Perhaps that wasnt your intent, but certainly it has been perceived as being rude and your following comments havent helped to change it.

How nice to see that the well-established members of this forum are so friendly and unpatronising. but no matter; any further discussion can be taken elsewhere.
