In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Status check on health of this site.

A funny pic or personal attack has nothing to do with the thread yet that seems to be the means to handle any situation that brain power is lost for. Amazing how some of the most intelligent human beings can be reduced to simple ridicule when confronted with something that is beyond their grasp of reality...or just ridicule as a way of life.

Oh come on... a little off topic humor just lightens the mood and brightens the day. ;)

I think you are right, it probably does. But that is different from ridicule.

Of course it is but the problem with implementing a rule about OT posts is that some people here would not know the difference. :ack2:

I repeatedly see threads where even higher level members engage in outright name calling and other derogatory behavior. In my opinion, that does this site a dis-service. Obviously, Webslave has put an enormous amount of effort into creating and attempting to improve this forum. For others to degrade his work and the credibility of the site in this manner exhibits a great deal of disrespect.
:iagree:

Not to mention..the site may never progress to the next level as a reliable, trustworthy all over moderator of the reptile community if changes are not made *it was instrumentative in revealing several scammers and scams and helpful in achieving customer satisfaction, but this is not going to benefit many people in the community if they refuse to come here because they don't like the way the posting goes.*

I have to assume that the numbers must have fallen drastically, if it is a cause for concern. It's not just the implemenation of a pay for play program..it's also whether or not people feel that they are getting their money's worth.

Hundreds of scammers and scams. This was a much tougher place in the beginning. People seem to forget that. If you look back at the posts (2004 and earlier) the civility now is much greater. Things have already changed a great deal.

Yea ok, but basing a religion on a fictional Star wars movie is opening the door to ridicule. I mean, it is time to bring it back to reality.

He is saying that his religion is based on Star wars, and that he is being attacked for seeing the light through his light saber. Then he is also way out there and has no clue what real is, I might add he also supports known scumbags.

So this is what you choose to defend?

Yes Bobby. Not the 'who' but the 'how'. Off the BOI, are you saying that you check out who you are talking to, before deciding whether you are going to be civil or not?

With words, sometimes a scalpel is better than a mallet.

There are some very effective and respected people here that can get their point across very well without using ridicule.

Actually, Bobby - I believe it was somebody else that said it was "A" religion...then everybody jumped on the wagon and applied it to Bud (and Bruce)

(off the titled topic, I know....but this is the nature of the beast, and an example of the difficulty of keeping things ON topic)

Actually (and I also apologize for going off topic), he did imply it:

Wow dragon dad,
they will come after you now.
the truth hurts them more than they will admit.
Webslave is doing what ever he wants to do and I have not one problem with him ,never have.[so your wrong dennis]!
Its some of the members here that do exactly what you said.
I predict more of a loss of traffic due to childish acts.
Why do you think I don't have a wolf pack?
no people I know would ever post here cause of the way it has gone.

slave asked for opinions here they are. :shrug01:

1. Abolishing the pay to be a mod program for a start.
2. Enforcing off topic rules.
3. a Three strikes your out rule would be nice.
4. only allowing Boi posts that are legit with documents,ect...
some time limit on boi posts so somthing from years in the past can not be used to harm a good standing reputation as has been done.
you ever hear about paying a penalty and doing time only to
years later have to relive it again?
whats the point of being a better person if its never gonna go away.
This scares away anyone that might have had a bad deal once in their lives.
they know the wolf pack will use it against them at any time so they just dont bother.

also attacking someone over their religion must not be allowed.
If I chose to be a jedi or some other religion.
Hate crimes are crimes right.

When I joined this site back in 2002, it wasn't just tough, it was a down and dirty, in you face style of posting, with amazing ability to destroy and out a bad guy in a day or so. From typo's to spelling no one was left unscathed by the dirty dozen.

2004-2005 brought a new group of folks like Dennis Hultman, HHMoore, Dand, Shrap, Cat_72, Critical Bill and JimO. All of them as effective as there predecessors, but with a little more finesse and style.

For those who are new to Fauna and the BOI, I would suggest looking up some of the older threads there, like "the diet coke guy", Adam Block, White feather, and Lloyde Putnam (my introduction to fauna was Llodes thread as he was a former business acquaintance and what I thought was a friend)

All of us have found this site one way or another, we should all attempt to work together for the greater good and survival of Fauna.

Next... level? Several? Not going to benefit...

What the hell website have YOU been looking at?

Hundreds, if not thousands of dealers have been identified as positive and negative, the site is the only one of it's kind with anything even remotely approaching the scope it covers, every post is going to be exactly as trustwoirthy as the person making it, exactly as it should be and nobody can take responsibility for anybody else failing to utilize the site and recieve it's benefits because they don't like a policy or don't like the direction certain posts take.

I have no idea what sort of insane, insurmountable goals you have set in your own mind but this site in it's past and current incarnations has met and often exceeded every single point you seemed to bring up as being on a "to do list"

Changes must be made to make it fit the definition it already fits! Fix things that aren't broken! Tweak and prod and alter and adjust until nobody can tell asses from elbows, black from white, up from down! Any way to get the entire page to be rotated by ninety degrees?

Hmmm, boiled down to the lowest possible interpretation, it becomes:

Change is bad.

So the best course of action would have been for me to consult a psychic, set this site up as it needed to be from the start, and not change a thing, EVER......

The more signifigant a change is, the more pronounced the detractors and supporters will be in their argument. The more they think it will impact things, the more emphatically they'll debate and argue and fight and dissect it and the more likely they are to be displeased when the conclusion isn't exactly what they wanted it to be after investing so much of their effort into the subject.

Obviously new situations require an adaptive response and over time those people who take their ball and go home will start to add up. Not a thing that can be done about it really, except to stagnate and accept the problems inherent in that- which are probably equal or greater than the problems that come with making decisions that aren't universally supported. An explaination doesn't always give rise to a solution. 'course it's entirely possible that a bandaid will create itself if users are aware of the decline and those who remain invested make a conscious effort to participate in some signifigant manner and act as a draw to the site. By say... throwing a post in an underused forum or taking the time to address a discussion with some tact and dignity.

Oh lord! and this is exactly what I mean. Please recall that RICH asked for advice, insight or whatever it is called on possible reasons for the steady decline of posters/visitors or whatever they may be called.

It is in response to his request that many of us have posted. If you do not like the way I worded mine, that is your perogative. But the bottom line is: Rich was concerned...you do not see a reason to be concerned, and that's all well and good..but..it is RICH's forum..so address your posts to Rich and don't waste time trying to belittle me.

Actually, it might be best if everyone did address their concerns to Rich instead of trying to attack anyone else's opinion.

p.s. Sorry for using the word "several" instead of "thousands." Maybe I should have said "many" since I neither have the time nor inclination to read though a lot of abusive posts regardless of the final outcome of those posts.

p.p.s And I said "next level" because regardless of whether or not a few want to believe that the forum is perfect as is...the numbers do not lie. This forum could be the be all end all of the reptile community. :yesnod: It has not (imo) reached that point yet, why do I say that? Because before I became active again...many..MANY (I am a member of quite a few other forums) told me not to bother..I decided to go ahead and do it because I make my own decisions.

Throw your rabbit ears out cuz you got cable
This is good live stuff but some of it is fable
Coming at you rapidly till you feel unstable
Its like Bruce nailing Bud on the kitchen table

Where do I come up with this kind of stuff? Beats the crap out of me. What I would really like to know is how this stuff comes up with me.

Harald, It was Bud, he was complaining to Rich for being attacked over his religion.

Change is not bad, but when everyone adjusts to the change that that is put into place, then it seems to change again. IMO, it would be nice to make it the way you choose, let everyone adjust and leave it at that. But changing it over and over just seems to cause confusion.
JMHO. :)

No way around that. There is no guidebook out there called "How to Run FaunaClassifieds in the Best Way Possible." So I have to make decisions based on seat of the pants feelings about what previous changes have resulted in. How long is TOO LONG or TOO SHORT to wait to make a change? Should I wait for the tombstone to be carved or should I try to head that off if indications seem to indicate that a life saving change might be recommended?

When do you decide to go to the doctor? When you are feeling real lousy or when it requires someone else calling an ambulance to take you there? If you go when you are just feeling lousy, would you have died if you hadn't gone to the doctor's office? In most cases, no, but there is always that chance to worry about. And probably most people would prefer to get well sooner rather than later, if they believe that they can reasonably influence that outcome.....
