Rich I don't really think that the change to having to pay to advertise in the classifieds is really affecting your membership or posting numbers. Its my feeling that the two things really are mutually exclusive. Given the alternative of KS charges for classifieds and the controls, having the minimal fee of membership is minor. Maybe a minor marketing change, have a membership and a classified membership. The feeling is that the two do the same thing just that you sell(promote) them with a little different benefit for the money.

Although I check classifieds on a regular basis I have done more business since you have instituted the fee than before. Some is do to my own structure in reptiles. And some is just I have found all I need on Fauna with no need to go to KS. I find the classifieds here to provide the animals I want. Not to say I don't look at KS just haven't bought any thing there.

Paying to advertise was a smart business decision on your part. Some may grumble and complain but the alternative isn't any cheaper than what your offering. I will repeat the point I made earlier. The slowdown of posts and members has more to do with how things are handled here than with the membership being required, to advertise. The off topics the personal attacks are more of a downfall to Fauna than the fees.


Now I am going to violate my own opinion.

You by your own claim produced 324 babies this year....but in looking at the classifieds of Fauna not a single ad for sale of Tegus by Varnyard since March of 2003. So what give you the right to claim anything of what is going on with this site. You pay to be a mod, and yet you brag about how many animals you produce but not a one was sold through here. Way to support the site!!!! And I thought hypocrisy only existed in religion.

All are welcome. And, in fact, I think that ALL posts should be judged by their content rather than their author.
Rather than rifts and prejudgments, what will advance reptile keeping the most is the interplay of ideas and the fostering of an environment where those ideas can be expressed.

Bobby, you need to calm down and try to do what is best for Fauna here. I do not think it is wrong for you to say something about someone's facts; but when you preface a statement like you did, it could affect newcomers and make them think they need credentials to participate. And Michael should be able to particpate, both of y'all should be able to participate, without the incessant attacks that are ruining this board.

The site is fine. It's going through a growing phase. Just like a child not all phases are easy to deal with or see the end of. Just like a child, should it survive the phase, it will be stronger and better when the phase is completed.

The economy is in a dump, there is not as much buying going on as there was, there are changes happening here not only to members but the very running of the site and almost all of them are recent in nature.

It takes time to work these things through and I don't think there has been enough time gone by yet to have reached any conclusions.

I just stated the facts exactly how they were, nothing more, seems very calm to me, I even gave you a little .

As for credentials to participate, I have no problem if they wish to participate, more power to having new members joining us. But to have someone attack someone else, that has no clue what they are talking about at all, is something you see that does not need to be addressed. However, the one being attacked is seen as the one that you need to call out, well thats just .

As I stated before, you read his post long before I posted, but you chose not to address Mike's attack, but now somehow you feel the need to nip my heals. BTW, he is no newbie, read the join date.

While I think this was harsh and some of it uncalled for as no one has the right to say anyone should leave I also think that what was said (outside of the uncalled for) was truthful concise and without name calling. Bobby you have said you were going to leave plenty of times, that is the truth. The way Michael went about saying that is extremely sarcastic and like I said uncalled for AND he clearly knew he was going there as he said it himself:

Sometimes perhaps it is better to and comes across better (especially on the cold hard internet) if one speaks in such a way as to say what is on their mind without all the undertones of sarcasm.

I like this site and plan on staying and reading. I am of the thinking I am not alone in liking it as people come and go and then return.
I am not looking for happy happy golly all the time as that is impossible but a little self-restraint on everyones part could go a long way in participation and keeping new members here to stay without fear of retribution.

Sorry, I dont have a need to self promote, or strive to pat myself on the back in the effort to appear to be a big dog. Do the same search for say Wes Pollock Wilomn I guess then Wes doesnt count as a respected member of the reptile world. I think you need to look for another criteria.

You need to look at your own track record for attacks, since your right in the middle of every thread that goes astray with the personal rather than the topical. That includes non BOI. So when you have it happen to you, its bad but when you do it its ok. Oh wait, your a respected member of the community. Thats seems to be the summary of what you are saying that attacks are ok as long has you have the reputation in reptiles.

Lucille is right, any member can make a point. Doesnt matter if they are new or old. Its the manner and the attitude of the arrogance of some members here that drive people off. I am the second largest tegu breeder in the U.S., fact; I have been a legit businessman for many years, fact. I am well known for a very good reputation, fact. I have a long list of buyers every season; most of my tegus are sold before they even hatch, fact.

I earned my reputation, it was all my hard work, and therefore I did not see the need to explain myself to you.

So next time you jump on anyone, please do the homework first.

As for Fauna, it is awesome, as for new members, I am 110% glad to see them join and real glad to help if needed. That is needed for any site to grow, so lets all look for something else to post on besides this wore out subject.
