In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Steps To Become Fedex Certified!!!

Shipping!

I've been going through the process of being Fed Ex certified.. and will begin UPS right after.

Problem I've run into: Even though I'm getting certified, I'm only allowed to ship to a business address. Has anyone heard of this? Maybe someone can provide a number I can call, or a rep that my rep can talk to. Are there exceptions or is it more of a "dont know, dont tell" kind of thing?

I'd love to be able to ship without worries!

I'm having a hard time understanding how anyone is shipping legally to other residences.

HELP ME! lol. :D

Gotta say, I still ain't very impressed. Maybe it's just my proximity to the border or something. Scheduled a pick up, after 4PM last week, come home at lunch, and find a door tag. Had to delivery to the FedEx facility myself, because they were done in this area for the day.

I have 3 scheduled for pickup today, again for after 4pm, double checked it too. I come home at noon for lunch, and I actually have TWO door tags from different drivers. Now why would you send two drivers to the same address to pick up 3 small boxes, all scheduled to go at the same time?

Just got off the phone with them, and after explaining to them that I will NEVER have a package ready before 4pm, and that I ALWAYS schedule them for after 4PM due to working for a living, they are scheduled to return.

Guess I have to start doing screen shots of the form, and printing them up for proof if this continues to be a problem. Like I said, not impressed at all. Might just have to stick with my Delta DASH service, and sorry to my customers if it's a pain in your butt. I tried to make it easier, but FedEx don't want that for me. :shrug01:

FED EX WAIVER TROUBLE

Ok Guys, I am almost done and have come to the last step, sending in my signature, when my rep calls me and notices a problem.

Section J.) of the Waver States....

J. Company acknowledges that all shipments tendered to FedEx under this Agreement are for Business delivery only. No residential deliveries are allowed under this Agreement.

Has anyone else encountered this problem yet?

The standard I use for shipping is that if who I am shipping to has filed a DBA with their local government (county, town, etc), then they are legally classified as a business and as such can be shipped to under the rules defined by FedEx. If they have not, then I suggest the recipient of the package take receipt of the package at the nearest FedEx hub. I'm not suggesting that this is the way it has to be done, and I'm sure there are circumstances that may make it problematic (like the hub being clear across town or county), but it's worked for me thus far.

It's much safer to have them pick it up at the hub too, yeah. I'll be doing the same thing. (Whenever they get around to getting me my cert....my inside guy now tells me the department needed another piece of paperwork...which he, being a smart guy, kept from when I sent it, so he sent it over to them...3 days ago. We'll see. *sigh*).

My contract says exactly the same thing. However, when I talk to my rep, and also the account exec, I am told it wouldn't be a problem. Of course, I explained to them, that the post office isn't always aware that an address may also be a home business address, and they leave it as residential. Guess where FedEx gets their info? LOL

So, having been told that it "would NOT" be a problem shipping to a residential address if it was a home business, I have done so. 9 times now the packages have arrived without a problem. On a couple of them, I actually selected "residential address" when filling out the form. No problem so far. I merely put something like "Rick's Serpents" or something in the business name box on the waybill, using the persons last name.

I have also gone and screen shot, and printed the page with my name, business name, and business address, so I have a bit of proof.

FYI.

Actually, Fed Ex considers an address to be residential if it's in a residential zoned area--regardless if it's a business or not. Part of it has to do with how wide the roads are, I would imagine. So, when they talk about a 'business address', they actually clarify that to mean NOT a home-based business. Still, they generally deliver packages to wherever they're addressed to, regardless.

Considering the current UPS snake shipping situation, I have a question for any of you that may have been involved with FedEx in the early "pilot" stages of them allowing snakes to be shipped: Are you aware of any restrictions that were placed on exactly what could or could not be done with the physical waiver sheet that you were given?
Was anyone ever told that it could NOT be made available for perusal by the general public? I realize that it may not be completely applicable considering that UPS and FedEx are two entirely separate corporate entities..I guess I'm just trying to satisfy my own curiousity.

I was never told I couldn't provide a copy of my waiver to anyone, but I never asked either. I'm also not sure if their was an actual "pilot" stage...At least not that I can recall.

Fed Ex never did sent me my waiver, by the way. After struggling with them for months, I've given up, and I'm using SYR. No problems whatsoever with UPS so far, not a single one. The local hub recognizes me on sight, and the lady behind the counter always greets me with "more snakes, eh?" <lol> She even asked for a biz card so she could take a look at them online.

Your options are: Fed Ex, in which you're never supposed to ship reptiles to a residential address, or UPS, in which you must rely on a waiver that their upper echelon doesn't want anyone to see, but apparently honors. I mean, not a great selection, there. There's always Delta Dash, but they want your firstborn and an arm and a leg as a shipping charge. Use what works for ya. lol

Sometimes honors.

I would call FedEx and complain about the waiver being MIA. That is completely unacceptable. Perhaps request a new rep? If you're worried about the waiver and residential addresses, hold for pickup at the FedEx station.

Your Delta Dash commentary was pretty silly, and uninformed, Donna. The process is simple (though there is an application fee), and I had my approval within two weeks...it would have been sooner but the local "inspector" was going on vacation, and I wasn't available beforehand. Sure, the cost for a couple of small snakes would be higher than FedEx or UPS; but it's also same day service, in most cases. Also, if one is shipping larger animals, Dash can end up being a cheaper....and, unlike UPS or FedEx, their insurance actually means something, as they will compensate for DOAs if it is their fault (delay, misrouting, etc).

The biggest negative of getting a Delta account is that if you don't use it, you lose it; and most people aren't willing to spend the money OR make the trip to the airport for a small purchase, so it isn't a great option for everybody.

(I agree with that people should use what works for them...I just had a problem with the overgeneralized statement that Delta Dash is SOOO expensive, when it can, in fact, be a cheaper option. Add in a few benefits of the service, and it isn't always a bad deal - especially when you are dealing with expensive animals.)

I'm late getting started but I've finally got the ball rolling on getting certified and wanted to thank you guys for such an informative thread and all of the resources provided here. So far, I've opened an account online and just called the 1800 number to get my account rep's info. The guy I spoke with took down my information and said that I should get a call from my rep sometime today. That was a couple hours ago. I really hope this doesn't turn into a lot of phone tag.

I'm impatient and got tired of waiting for someone to contact me so I contacted FedEx Packaging Services via email -- [email protected] -- and explained what I was trying to do. I also asked if I could get the account number so that FedEx would cover the cost of shipping my test package to their facility.

I got a response within the hour. :yesnod:

They sent me the account number I needed along with a link to the package testing application. They also reminded to package everything just as I would if I were shipping a reptile, minus the reptile. I was so relieved that I didn't hit a "We don't ship reptiles" wall.

I've printed out my shipping label and my box will be on its way to them tomorrow.

Good to hear Sandy.... Chances are you will have your test results by the end of next week.... If memory serves me correctly... they test your package in Memphis, so even shipping ground it should get there kinda quick considering where your shipping from.
