In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Sterilite Drawers

I used them for a while, but a few fattails got out of them. Luckily I found them all..

I had some Goniurosaurus in some of those once and several of them escaped. Luckily, like Matt, I found them all. I wouldn't risk it if I were you.

I have never used them but I know someone else who has and had the same problem as Kelli and Matt... they are certainly not escape proof! If you use them, don't put anything next to the sides or it will be used as a ladder. I personally wouldn't chance it.

I keep baby leopard geckos in them when im feeding them,( I seperate all the geckos when they eat so I can keep track of what everyone is eating, in shifts) they haven't escaped from them but nothing is in the box except them and some bugs, if I were you I would glue some kind of lip around the rim so they can't get thru the gap at the top of the drawer.

I am using something similar at the moment for my adults, but i was using alot larger bins. I don't know the size those pictured are, but i was using the 45qt bins. I think its like 20W x 18L x 12T i think.

For ventalation in those i took a hole saw and cut out 2 holes and then glued screen to the insides.

I have not had any escapees yet, i never thought they could. So maybe i have to re-think that.....

I have 2 that have 4 drawers each. I havn't had a problem keeping my babies in them.

I think they are perfect for leo's. But if I have a leo escape like in your cases, ill have to go back to the gold old stuff. These things are great to me.

Mike, what works real good for ventilation (and proably will take less time) is taking an old screw driver, heating the tip with a propane torch and searing holes all around the top. I would do it outside if I were you... when the plastic cools back down it is ready to use, no waiting on glue to dry!

TK Reptiles uses the single drawers and when I bought a breeder group of DH from her I got the idea for them but I use the ones that are 3 drawers in a unit for my adults $20 that are 20.5 X 15 X 7 and Jeremy (I think) warned me about the escaping and sure enough I have 1 male that got out everytime I put him in so he had to be moved to a different unit.

I have the 3 in a unit for my babies that are 11X15X7 $10, I split each drawer to have 2 sides for the babies so that each side is 5.5X15X7 and I took out one of the dividers, although these are the same height the drawer fits in tighter so he has not escaped from it (yet knock on wood).

I looked at the single drawers for $8 a coupel of weeks and the drawers seemed to slide in tighter on them than on my 3 drawer unit.

I plan to get a good rack built this summer or fall and use the set up like Jeremy's with the lids on the containers since that looks so much safer to me.

Kelli, was it a different model? I think four different people have said that animals have escaped. But the ones I bought have no gaps for the adults I keep in them to get out. The adults aren't even tall enough to reach the top of the drawer? Were people using the three-drawer with castors model? That had a lot of gaps.

Thats what Ive got, with the heat tape inbetween the drawers.

Only 1 of my drawers has a gap on it, could be from the heat tape causing the plastic to reshape a little and that 1 male was in the 1 drawer that had a little gap and it was the bottom drawer, I moved my giant to it and he has never gotten out of the drawer but I was scared to put my escape into another drawer like it so I moved him.

I stack them and put the incubator and virosan jug on top, it weighted them down and decreased all the gaps except for the bottom drawer of 1 unit.

Even better, you can get a cheap soldering iron (I've seen them for as low as $5) plug it in, and your off to the races.

Very True... I just use what I got and it costs me nothing but an already useless screwdriver... generally one my wife has been using!LOL

Is there any way that you guys can put a thin peice of plexiglass or something of that sort over the top to cover the gaps to stop the geckos from escaping?

The gap on mine is tiny, maybe 1/8", only 1 of 70+ has been able to escape in the 3 months Ive had them so Im not sure how he got out, I tried to watch him the other day and sat there so still that I fell asleep and when I got up he was out again, he never goes far but I just decided to not put him back in the drawers.

The front has no gap at all but there is a tiny gap on the side at the tip top towards the front.

I tried to get a pic but it doesn't show up well at all, tomorrow is cleaning day, Ill see if I can get a godo pic.

While were on the subject

Last year I bought one of those little tiny three drawer plastic jobs! Thought it would be perfect for newborns in there first month!....Wrong!!!! I even set it up with it's own heat tape & controller and even though there wasn't a gap when the drawers are closed, while your closing them there is. And one time a baby somehow got out the back while I was closing it (I didn't know) and got crushed in the back, After searching all over I finally figured it out. So now I have a nice heated mini unit to store my Gecko meds in.....with the heater off of course!
