In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

So I was hoping I wasnt going to have to post this, but unfortunately it looks like I have no choice. Steve Schaffner or Steve DeSc

I purchases a CBB Southern Scrub python from Steve DeSc off Fauna classifieds for $375 total shipped on August 5th. He told me snake was eating good, around 9 months old etc.

I tried getting him to setup shipping numerous times and there was always an excuse. He told me it was too hot, (which could be valid, but he said he had cryo packs), I shipped out to MD, where he is from and my snakes made it there fine, but it was too hot for him to ship. Seemed a little shady.

Anyways, the excuses kept coming and coming. Finally we agree to ship on Tuesday August 14th for Wednesday August 15th delivery. I message him on the 15th all day, zero response. Finally someone responds telling me Steve is with his case worker or some bullshit and that he will be home later in the evening.

Supposedly Steve gets home and starts messaging me that he is sorry, blah blah, he was locked up and all this bullshit that he will make it right. I say i understand man, just look at it from my point of view, it looks and feels just like a scam. He tells me gets paid Friday and will pay me then. I said OK cool. That works.

So Saturday rolls around, he tells me he hasn't been paid and that he cant give me a refund when he doesn't have the money. He shows me screenshots of his paypal account $6000 in the hole. The screenshots are all there, I am a pretty reasonable guy, shit comes up and I understand, I just ask to be kept in the loop,

I work hard for my money, like most people do. After his last text message too me I send him another stating to just send me the snake if he cant pay, ill sell her myself or something to get my money back, but I haven't heard from him as of yet.

Being in jail and being $6k in debt are obviously not the practices of an honest seller....what method did you pay with? I hope you can get a refund quickly.

Not shipping due to heat is a legit excuse, but the seller kind of blew that with the whole jail thing.

Yea seeing him in the hole $6000 i doubt I will be getting my money back. I know about shipping in the heat, but I ship out ALOT of snakes throughout the year, and he could of shipped her, just refused too.

He is actively on Fauna this very moment. I left a link letting him know about this thread. His account is: SSchaffner

More lied from Steven. He sent me a "refund" through PayPal and assured me it was going to go through. Even though I was skeptical because of his negative $6000 paypal account. Well surprise that the day it should of cleared, it didnt. Now he is giving me excuses that his bank thought it was fraud, and that they got it figured out. I doubt it, its probably more lies.

Jake, if you have not yet done so, start a dispute through Paypal today because after a certain amount of time you can no longer open a dispute. If you can escalate it immediately, do so. Whatever you do do not close the dispute before you have money in hand, once closed it cannot be reopened ordinarily.

It does not matter whether he has money if you win the dispute, PayPal will refund you and then go after him for reimbursement.

I wouldn't believe a refund was coming unless he was sending a postal money order.

If you haven't already, file a dispute.

Unfortunately I am the idiot that sent it to him friends and family, so I believe nothing can be done that way. I should have known better, and I made the mistake.

If you backed the payment up with a credit card you may be able to get it back that way. If you used your PayPal balance or a linked bank account then it's less likely.

Shoot, another victim of the friends and family thing. It can be an expensive way to 'save' on the 3% fee. Well, at least you'll know next time.

If a seller is fixated on the 3% thing, (which is still not ok with paypal btw - it's the seller's fee to pay) you can always add the 3% to the cost and pay the right way. That way you are still protected.

Steve is Strange

Last year, Steve purchased a Yellow Bellied Slider from me. Several days later, he sent me telling me how pleased he is with the turtle. His message included a photo of Steve mating with the poor turtle.

Clearly, someone with legal issues, debt issues, jail issues, and now a report of.....let's just say strange behavior with a turtle, has a lot of opportunity for personal growth and development before becoming someone that anyone should do business with.

Sounds like he's ripped off the OP, who doesn't have much recourse. This is definitely bad guy/scammer behavior. I'm glad this thread is up to warn others.

I have seen someone report that despite friends and family, they still received a refund. I don't know if it is common or not, but you should still try.
