    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Would sticky back linoleum tiles be safe to use as a backdrop in a wooden cage? I dont think that being stuck to the back they would come in contact with too much heat. Anyone have any experience?

they might warp after some time ( and the sticky stuff hates moisture!) Id just use actual tiles and grout ( which i think would end up cheaper too?) It takes a bit longer, but its nicer and you can do all your own designs with them ^_-

The adhesive tiles work fine in a cage if that's what you choose to use, I have used them myself.
One thing though, don't depend on the adhesive to hold the tiles, especially on a vertical wall. The surface has to be prepared very well and still the glue just doesn't hold well on wood.
You'll want to use contact cement to apply the tiles, and you'll do better by doing this before you assemble the cage.

Great tip on the contact cement. I wondered if I should put something a little extra on there to hold them up. I'll post a pic when I am finished. It should look pretty cool.

Are you the same Chimpkin who has posted picture of DIY faux rock backgrounds on fish forums? If so, why not just use those? Too much work?

Actually, if you don't mind, send me an email as I'd like to ask you about those sometime.

At any rate, the self-adhesive tiles have two issues. One is that they don't stick well to bare wood, the other is that they can allow moisture to penetrate inbetween where tiles lie next to each other.

One solution is to first prime the cage with some sort of moisture resistant paint which will allow the tiles to stick much better and also offer some protection in case of water penetration. Personally, I would take it a step further. I would prime the wood, then put down a layer of self-adhesive vinyl film and then stick the tiles to the vinyl film. Some of the vinyl tiles are very attractive and not too expensive so finding a way to make them work would be nice.

Lastly, I have heard concerns about these offgassing for extended periods of time. I have heard this regarding many types of vinyl flooring.

I am the guy! Wow, I can't believe you figured that out. You are right! The backgrounds I have created lately are far superior in quality to the ones posted on cichlid forum. Unfortunately it takes me at least a week to finish a nice rock background. So I was trying tto be lazy.
