    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Last year I had a really good year breeding my cresteds. I got my females a little later in the summer so I didn't have as many babies as I might have, but still had very few bad eggs.

This year I am using vermiculite and so far every egg has gone bad. There have been about four clutches now, I believe two from each female, and each develops mold within a few days and/or never expands and then within weeks goes bad.

Now yesterday (after spending more time with the males again since the last bad eggs) one of my females laid another clutch. These, candled, show signs of veins, buuuuut they look a little strange. They almost look as if the shell is made up of a bunch of tiny little squares, so that it is not smooth. It actually has a roughish surface. I've never seen anything like this before. Otherwise they look completely healthy. Does this sound like a lack of calcium or something (though I don't really see how it could be)?

I'll try to post a picture soon. Anyone ever seen anything like this before?
 
Sounds like you are adding too much water to your verm, you can try to get the mold off with some listerine and a q-tip. From what you have said, you probably arent used to verm, usually soaking the verm and squeezing out as much water as you can keeps them at the corret moisture content. As for the eggs, you said "another clutch", sounds like they arent getting enough calcium. Hopefully this is a simple fix, just add some additional calcium, and nothing major.
 
I don't know... I've kept it pretty dry. Maybe I'll try it dryer though.

^Not sure what you mean by this.
These eggs haven't developed any mold so far (I really hope they don't). Weird, they are the healthiest looking ones beside looking the strangest. :p

I guess we'll see what happens.
