In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

New to the tortoise game. I've been looking into getting a small sulcata tortoise for awhile and have been sure to do my research on lifespan, husbandry and diet. I was told a 2 month sulcata would be best. What's the average size of a two month old Sulcata Tortoise?

Here’s two pictures of the little one I picked up today.

I am NO EXPRT on Centrochelys sulcata. However, your specimen looks healthy. The eyes look good and so does the shell. Approximately, how large is he/she? I am VERY bad with guessing size/scale from pictures. How has his appetite been? How long have you had your specimen.

Is it ok to plant grass seeds directly into my baby Sulcata’s enclosure? If so, any types in mind?

About 4 inches.
That seems like a "good size" for a two month old.

The appetite has been really good in the 24 hours I’ve had it.
That's probably a good sign, that, he/she is eating so well, right away.

I do not see what part of that would be detrimental to your specimen. But, what do I know. The only disadvantage, I can think of is this: the seed might not grow/sprout properly.

If so, any types in mind?
Have a look at this website: http://sulcatafood.com/All_Store_Items.html

Thanks for all your help and advice. I just purchased a bag of the desert tortoise seed mix. I plan adding some seed to the enclosure and starting some flats with seeds and once they sprout use the clippings as a topper on current mix of greens.

It's at least 8 months old...probably closer to a year! The shell looks like it was started out dry. Your substrate is a good choice...just make sure the humidity is in the 90-100% range...and soak him/her at least an hour twice a day...don't wanna see that pyramiding on the carapace continue! Planting seeds in the enclosure is a waste...they'll draw bugs and he'll gobble 'em up as soon as they sprout! Lose the greens...do this instead! https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/tortoise-lasagne.19944/#post-176333

Here are a couple photos of mine from a few years back...see how smooth the carapace are? And, if you can get him an hour or more in the sun...and offer him cactus once or twice a week...plus leave a cuttlebone for him...you have no need for a calcium supplement! I've NEVER used supplements (other than food). The last photo is of my 8 year old! He's 24" and 85 pounds!

Nice! I got my Gwen back in the early 90’s, when we knew far less about raising torts- almost makes me want to raise another one...
