In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Super Geckos!

LOL...maybe "clone" isn't the right word to use. There are a couple geckos out there (that I JUST found out about) that do reproduce asexually. They said that some of them have mock sex to stimulate egg production...they just sorta rub together. Because there either isn't a male....or there are VERY few males....then they can't have "normal" sex. Who woulda thunk?

As for the faster, better, stronger.....who knows?

Interesting reading and I agree cloning is not the correct term for asexual reproduction. Im sure there are a lot of studies out there like that and they all probably have different theories just like any other study.

they're calling a aussi nerphrurus species an american gecko,,,total BS

That was something I didn't pick up on. In that case, I'll have to take your word on the fact that it's BS.

On KS I just saw a pic of some geckos mock-mating. It's how I found out about it in the first place. I knew about some frogs, and a number of invertebrates...but not geckos.

I feel bad for the poor gecko that's running on the treadmill!!!

Robert Bakker did similar experiments with monitor lizards during his graduate student days... although he had to physically strap an oxygen mask over the creature's face. He didn't recall many of them being too cooperative. :)

Whats BS about a reptile giving birth to fertile young without there ever being a male introduced????

Also, why would cloning not be the proper word to use???? The young of animals that gave birth with no male introduction are exact replicas of the mom, down to the DNA....

There are a few reptile species that reproduce young without the aid of a male..... There is a monitor species or two that have done this and there is a rattleless rattlesnake that does this as well..... Not to mention a few amphipian species that do this too..... I have a friend that has a cotton mouth since it was very young and has never seen a male...... I think the snake was 6 years old when it gave birth to 2 viable young......

I do not see the BS in that story.....

Mourning geckos also can give birth to young without an opposite sex. As well as the pacific gecko I seem to have read. There are neither male or female of these geckos, just one that produces young on its own. N. amyae cannot do that, I am pretty sure of that ;).

Gregg, does the baby having the same DNA as the mom make it a clone? And is asexual reproduction the same process as cloning?

If it is then I guess it is cloning, didn't really think of it that way at all.

Well, I guess it depends on how you define cloning...... I think you might be thinking that cloning can only be done by a human in a lab...... The fact is, cloning has been going on for much longer that the actual "science" of cloning.....

Yeah I was thinking of the science aspect of cloning, didn't even think about it happening naturally in reproduction.

I never heard of Parthenogenetic animals reproducing refered to as cloning!
Maybe we should call it zeroxing?

All the BS aside, I'm just glad to know that I didn't waste all that time and money developing hamster wheels for geckos. I hope to connect them to turbines that will power the heat tape in the snake racks to save on my electric bill.

FYI: Dangling a cricket in front of the geckos to get them to run seems to work better than baiting them with a mealworm. I think it's because they're more used to having to chase down crickets, whereas the mealworms just kinda sit there... :>poke2<:

I find that a nile monitor right behind the gecko works better than meakworms or crickets.
And for your information the gecko wheel works much more efficiantly for powering a small refrigerator full of beer!
