In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Super hypo for $1200

I just looked at the pics again. A few of the markers of a possible super are:

1) Reduced or no Moustache
2) No black on the borders of the patterns between the vent and tail

The pics are not quite what I would need in order to answer those two

Hey all,

First, I definetly didn't think anyone is/was trying to rain on my parade. I asked a question and received honest opinions, which was all I was looking for.

Second, what is the moustache, and where exactly is the area between the vent and the tail? Does that mean between the anus and the very tip of the tail?

Thanks again.

- Damian

Damian, Boas have a dark line under their nose which looks like a moustache, hence the term. You answered your other question. Anus, vent, cloaca - same thing. You've got a great looking hypo. Regards, Art

Here are some pictures of his moustache and tail. Is his moustache reduced?

I would say, based solely upon the assumption that those markers are 100% accurate (which they are by no means anywhere close to that percentage), that your boa has a good chance of being a super. He definately has reduced black around the patterns of his lower tail. His moustache appears to be normal though.

At this point, there is nothing left to do but to enjoy the little critter. Only time will tell and as you are well aware, Ed will stand by his guarantee should he not prove out. Good luck!

Just for conversations sake, there is one way to get guaranteed supers. When both parents are proven super salmons, all offspring will be super. I am unsure if this has been done yet(atleast with two previously proven supers), but when that breeding occurs, all offspring will be dominant.

Chris

as long as we're conversing, I mentioned that back at post # 10 :raspberry
but at least yer thinkin (if not payin attention) lol

Ok. Since I hope to eventually breed my Hypo BCI, this thread got me thinking about genetics and possible super hypos.

Is the following a correct understanding of the various possibilities?

Breeding: Hypo X Normal
___H N
N HN NN
N HN NN
Result: about 50% offspring will be hypos, about 50% normals

Breeding: Super Hypo x Normal
___H H
N HN HN
N HN HN
Result: All of the offspring will be regular Hypos.

Breeding: Hypo X Super Hypo
___H N
H HH HN
H HH HN
Result: about 50% will be super hypo and 50% will be reg. hypo (because you can't DEFINITELY tell by looking, ALL of these offspring are considered "possible super hypo"?)

Breeding: Super Hypo (proven) x Super Hypo (proven)
___H H
H HH HH
H HH HH
Result: All 100% of the babies will be definite super hypo if both parents were already proven.

Is this about right?
Thanks.

Back to mustaches, I looked at normal BCI and some hypo BCI. I found only one (which was a probable super at salmonboa) that had a mustache more reduced than this guy's. I did a google image search and looked at all of the animals where I could see that area of the head. With the normals and the hypos almost without fail, their mustaches go down to the top of the lip and they are connected in the middle. This is clearly not the case with this guy. Though maybe when puberty hits? laughing...

I appreciate everyone's input. This guy is getting more awesome to me every day when I compare him to a lot of others available out there. Ed did me a great deal.

Safe age for probing

Hey was really curious about at which age is it safe to probe a snake for sex?
I have always used the popping technique for neonates, and always probed the adults. But I am aware that some males do not pop. At what age would it be safe to probe them for varification?

Though I have probably probed only 80-100 snakes in My life, I look at the smallest probe in the Kit that I have, and using My male as a refference, I am very reluctant to use the probe for fear of damage. It looks small enough in diameter, but because of the small size, (blunted tip or not) I know it would not take much to pierce something.

Any oppinions?

Rick

OPPPS! Just realized I didn't back out to the main Boa forum. Sorry bout that. Can We get it moved by chance? BTW, nice Hypo you got there. Hope it turns out Super for you.

oops... I meant smile (I was typing and holding Freddy at the same time:) )I'm going to have to subscribe to this place so I can make edits. I love your cat picture. IMO the best animals on earth are cats and snakes :) Though I don't think they'd get along too well... laughing

so i'm a little confused. i've read all of the posts in this thread and i've come to this conclusion: that you can't tell the difference between a hypo and super hypo until they are proven? and by proven, you guys mean that this snake breeds with another snake and produces super hypo babies? how do you know the super hypo babies are really super hypos of they look exactly like hypos? if they look the same why spend 1200 on a super when a hypo is 500? i'm sorry but i'm just SOO confused with the whole co-dominant stuff. also, does breeding two hypos produce any super hypos? or is it just 100% hypos?
