In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Inquiry Swanees Exotics (Nate Swanson)

I am not a frequent poster here, but I have bought several animals from Nate and they have all done well. With any newly acquired animal, it's important to do all the necessary steps to acclimate them - be it chytrid treatment, batryl regimen, etc. Even if I had gotten animals that looked super healthy, I would do what I need to do to make sure that the animal has the best possible chance!

I think Nate is a stand up guy. I would not hesitate to buy from him again! In fact I plan on buying some stuff this week.

Gee, I wish that I had had TIME to treat that poor female collared that I got from Nate. I am a long time experienced rehabber, and there was NOTHING that I could do for her. She should not have been shipped in that condition, plain and simple, and anyone who handles and keeps animals as much as he supposedly does should have caught that.

When I stop seeing pics in some of his ads that reflect thin, overcrowded, and miserable animals, I might believe the positive feedback here, but I will never buy from him again.

did
you look at his website before you decided to recieve animals from him? If so then you your last statement should be void. He should not have sent what he did In your opinion, and now its done. He refunded your money correct? I recently delt with a like matter with some turtles (not from swanees) and they refunded my money and ill go get a different one from an different supplier.....nuff said. Do you have a vendetta aginst him?

I did get a refund for the lizard that died after I threatened him, yes, but that does not mean that I was not bothered by what that poor lizard went through coupled with all of the images of thin, overcrowded animals that I see in many of his ads. Its not hard to figure out how she got that way. "Nuff said" doesn't cut it for me when animals suffer. If the fact that I simply wrangled a refund out of him by threatening him is all that matters to you, then by all means, buy from him! I was very unsatisfied by the whole thing and very wary of buying anything else from him based on the pics in his ads. Vendetta? No. Would I advise people to buy from him? NO!

fair enough

Well as I've never personally bought an animal from him, I know my ex bf (Nathan Horton) did lots of business with Nate and considered Nate a good guy. He bought and sold animals to each other for a long while now and Nathan I do believe helped him get started. I've talked with Nate for years and he's always been nice and friendly. I would buy from him.

I have been to Swannees house =/ I was doing some photography work and i got a frog from him and a CWD. I can say that Nate is a nice guy but the conditions he keeps his animals in are not appropriate. I dont know who his supplier is but that guy is not too great either, He sent him a worm infested Uro that died of parasites.
He had 10 baby water dragons in a 10-20 gallon tank together with no UVB or heat lamp. (Although his herp room is kept around 80-85) I can only tell you guys that most of his reptiles are in over crowded tanks or in too small of a tank but thats all i have to say really.
Nice guy but needs to think about what his animals needs are.
I think hes all about the money.

If that bothered you, then I suggest you don't ever visit some of the big warehouse reptile dealers.

If that's the conditions you saw of the animals on his website, why would you even contemplate purchasing one of his animals to begin with?
If I were going to purchase an animal online and saw overcrowded, thin animals, that would be the LAST place I would purchase from.
I think part of your problem was with you doing the purchase to begin with.
JMHO.

The pic that I saw of those particular lizards was not that bad and I was naive. I had never seen his ads before that, but I have seen plenty since. Swanees definitely contributed to my education. I will not buy from him again. JMO

Yeah =/ Alot of people have no Idea and buy from him. People in Diff states and such.
You cant go telling people its their fault and their idiots...
Thats not very nice :shrug01:
Its hard to tell from the photos, you have to KNOW what you are looking for, and first time Herp buyers do not generally really know what they are looking at.

And yet, i was a first time buyer of frogs in general =] I had only gotten the frog one day and then went back a week or 2 later....
=/
Happy?
Have I proven my worth yet? ;] Lol

Worth for what? This isn't exactly a game or a joke, this part of the board affects someones lively hood as well as some's means of feeding their family. Nothing should ever be taken as a joke per say.

Secondly was this an impulse buy? I know what shape the animals I buy are suppose to be in, whether they are a new species I keep, or not. It's general you do some research before buying or at least know something. If you are a first time buyer how do you know if your knowledge of how each of those animals were being kept were not ok...as some animals do ok in groups and if your moving animals in and out, sometimes close quarentine and there gone. Not saying your right and he's wrong, or vice versa, just want to know the actual knowledge of herps in general to know if they were in proper situations.

Well way to jump on anyone who looks to be a little happy in this worldly gloom =]
Yes I do know what Im looking for and In all honesty the frog was perfect, He had just brought it back from a show with him but I wanted it and bought it off him, One lucky frog i might add ;]
I will say that Nate knows how to keep some things right, but he needs to slow it down.
His dart frogs are awesome, you have to know how to keep and raise those as he obviously does.
You dont have to be so serious Chika ;] Smile once in a while. By now anyone who has gone through this thread knows Nate probably should not be doing what he is, or he should at least take a step back and look at what he is doing.
What about, what I said would miss-lead anyone? Im not shouting "Hey everyone! go buy from Nate Swanson! Swell guy, Healthy reptiles!"

Sonnie, when I said I was naive, I did not mean naive about the general health or condition of an animal. I was naive about buying online. I have been rehabbing rescue lizards for a few years, but only buying lizards online for about a year. In fact, Nate Swanee was the first person I ever bought from, and no, it was not an impulse buy. I had been looking for these specific lizards for several months, and yes, I DID know about them in general prior to the purchase.

If that bothered you, then I suggest you don't ever visit some of the big warehouse reptile dealers.

Is this supposed to make it okay then? I don't buy from warehouse sellers for the same reason.

I just wanted to add that :iagree: with this statement 100% this is real life not a game. THANK YOU for posting this.
