In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Let's hope this works out! FedEx is a lot better than UPS, IMHO. Just got this e-mail from Ship Your Reptiles:

To our valued customers,

We have great news! After building our service and shipping more than 50,000 packages with UPS, we are now finalizing a stronger partnership with FedEx -- specifically as a third-party reptile shipper.

ShipYourReptiles.com is now an official FedEx-certified live reptile shipper. We are in the final stages of re-activating our reptile shipping service.

ShipYourReptiles.com

ShipYourReptiles.com customers can ship live reptiles, including snakes, to businesses or residences.
Because we are FedEx live certified, you don't have to be.
  • Thanks to our customer support team, you'll continue to get the same level of customer service as a million-dollar shipper.
  • With FedEx Priority Overnight service, you'll enjoy guaranteed 10:30 a.m. arrival to most addresses.
  • You'll get a great rate!
ShipYourAquatics.com

We are working on re-instating aquatics shipping services. While we work on this, you can still buy aquatics shipping supplies.

ShipYourBicycles.com and ShipYourRC.com

ShipYourBicycles.com and ShipYourRC.com will be offline while we work on re-activating their shipping services.

ShipYourReptiles.com is certified to ship live reptiles, including snakes, to businesses and residences using FedEx Priority Overnight service. We are very excited about our FedEx partnership, and we hope to add more services in the future.

We will contact you when ShipYourReptiles.com is fully operational.

Thanks for your support,

That's cool, but FedEx is already pricy enough (but far better than UPS), I'd hate to see what their rates would be.

I'm excited to have SYR back online, but not excited about them switching to FedEx at all. Every live animal experience i've had with them has been horrible, along with a number of problems with other dry good shipments.... But i'll give it a try if it means not paying 60-70 dollars to ship like i've had to lately.

Ditto. I've had equally horrible experience with both UPS and Fedex. But at least its legal to ship snakes thru FEDEX.

Thanks for the link, Deb; I'm going to read through all of that in a bit.

My knee-jerk reaction to receiving that e-mail was, "Great! Another option for shipping snakes!"

After I thought about it a bit, though, I have to confess I'm not all that thrilled either. Quite apart from wondering how SYR is going to get around FedEx's certification requirements for individuals, it occurred to me that this is a giant screw-up waiting to happen - and if FedEx gets pissed off and halts snake shipping, we're ALL screwed. That could happen so easily with just one bad apple packaging poorly/unsafely and/or shipping a hot (or even a "semi-hot", as occurred with UPS and the false water cobra).

As much as I like the idea of more options, I'd hate to see the one remaining option jeopardized. :( I can only hope that if/when it does happen, SYR is the only company banned from shipping snakes since the transgression would have occurred on their account.

I have a fear the same irresponsible shippers will do to fedex what they have to ups. I hope they don't screw us on the only overnight shipping choice for snakes.

Well SYR has gone on record that they have approval to ship to and from residential with their wavier and that 10:30 deliveries guaranteed to most address. I know I have spoke to my Fed Ex rep before about the residential deliveries and he has told me Fed Ex has been considering a change in policy to allow that so if SYR had broke that barrier then I think we all need to contact our reps and get that changed for ourselves, as for the 10:30 guarantee I don’t see Fed Ex coming off of that. I have been told flat out numerous times that with a reptile account there would be no on time guarantees.

My problem is there is no accountablility for the individual shipper and this could screw it up for everyone.

Lets say Joe blow ships out a venomous snake (god forbid) on SYR's account. Joe Blow really doesn't have anything to loose because its not his account and he could alwasy get one on his own if SYR gets shut down.

But what if FedEx see's too many problems and decides to pull a UPS and halt all snake shipments. Now we are all screwed.

Why is it that folks are too damn lazy to get their own accounts. Guys you can bitch about getting a better rate thru SYR's or whoever... but the fact remains... the more you ship the better rates you can get. And you cant get better rates unless you ship on your own account.

Everybody is all happy that SYR's may be back in business.... but wake up. What happens if they go down again. You in the same boat your in now because you were too lazy to get certified on your own.

Something to think about. I charge a flat fee of $50 to anywhere in the lower 48. Some folks are charging $45. Sometimes I have to eat part of the shipping cost but only by a buck or two. If your gonna bitch about $5 more in shipping... then maybe you shouldn't be buying the snake in the first place. That makes me wonder how your going to afford the food bill for that animal if you want to moan and groan about a $5 difference between what I charge and what someone like SYR's may charge.

The key is... in a few years I will probably have enough volume to get my prices down as well.... but until then. I will keep doing what Im doing.

I urge anyone concerned with this to contact your reps immediately! Nicely express your concerns and tell them that the FedEx Reptile Certification is vital to our hobby and businesses! It is very important that we protect the only door to door service available to ship snakes. One foul move with FedEx on SYR's hands could ruin the entire Certification system for everyone. With the existing Certification system, individuals are held responsible for their actions, this will not be the case with SYR.

Email I sent to my FedEx contacts:
(with a copy of the email received from SYR attached)

Good afternoon,

I wanted to express my concern with an email received from a company that claims to be a third party reptile shipper with FedEx. The statements made in the email are in direct violation with the Reptile Shipping Waiver I signed with FedEx. ShipYourReptiles.com already lost their UPS contracts because they were dishonest about having a waiver to ship snakes through the company. This has caused issues with another shipper's UPS accounts and in turn, has restricted us who ship snakes from offering an alternative courier to customers. I fear that ShipYourReptiles.com will do the same with FedEx. I do not want my waiver put at risk because of their irresponsibly. The FedEx reptile certification program is a great one. It holds each individual responsible for themselves and a shipper must prove that they understand safe shipping practices before they are permitted to ship at all. Their are plenty of resources online for someone interested in FedEx reptile shipping to learn the process (my own website has a detailed description of what to do). ShipYourReptiles.com has no restrictions, no method to ensure safe shipping procedures are understood. They openly ignore Federal labeling regulations (in their videos) and when questioned about it, brush it off and play dumb. Their has been several complaints in public forums made by customers who were told to lie by ShipYourReptiles.com staff about the contents of their packages to UPS.

I know I am not alone. I urge you to research this matter and bring it to the attention of those who would make such decisions. My hopes are that FedEx continues with the Reptile Shipping waiver program and does not risk all of us for one company.

Thank you for your time,
Stephanie Kunder

In regards to rates...TALK TO YOUR REP! Discounts can be negotiated. I can ship from coast to coast for $52 (12x9x6 box) when previously I was paying $75 or better before I talked directly with my rep. You can get better rates, just speak up!

Well now SYR is approved and running with Fed-EX. They say that Fed-EX is allowing them to ship from Residence to Residence now. What makes them so special to be able to do that and everyone else can only ship Business to Business? I wonder if this is a opening for others to be able to change their waivers?
