    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I had a bad experience with him last week, at the OKC show, will return my calls, answer the phone, or return my emails, it's now been a week since i've been trying to get incontact with him about my little baby w. hognose i got from him and no luck, wondering if anyone else has had any bad/good dealings with him or know of a better way to get ahold of him? i didn't want to do it here but i've been tryign for a week to get ahold of him and no luck i still want to work things out, hence the inquiry not the bad guy post.

We have done a few shows with him now and he seems to be a decent guy. This is a very busy time of year for us breeders, as we usually have our hands full with new little mouths to feed AND shows every weekend!
My advice would be just to keep trying!

Lmfao. 2 months and nothing. Then telling others it's been resolved. So must have been others as well cause no contact to me. Despite my numerous efforts. Decided today to just text with no indication of why just that I was looking for Scott. Then immediately got a response saying this is Scott. When explaining who I was and why I was contacting him. Silent again. Starting to lean towards the avoiding not busy explanation.

Ah well...not saying we're "tight" or anything...just saying he SEEMED decent...to me. I certainly hope so, since we just did a bunch of trades with him at the last show! O_O

yeah he had the only female hoggy at the show at the end of june was so excited he had one but he assured me she'd already eaten 3 meals and was ready to go, just a little dehydrated from going from show to show that week....got her home and she was only 3g, no way she'd been a good eater, most newly hatched ones are 3x that big... just been trying to get it rectified every since, very upset after today's ordeal though, and him telling jim that he got it all taken care of , which i haven't heard from him at all, then claiming it was someone else, so either he was lying or had a few bad hoggies this year, dont care about the money just wanting what i paid for, a 100% het albino hognose female. again why i put this as an inquiry, not a bad guy thread, but i'm leaning more that way.

when i got her she seemed a bit lethargic, he said she was a bit dehydrated from going from show to show that week, but said she'd had 3 meals and was a good eater, and if i had any problems to let him know, gave me his card and everythign seemed fine, got home tried getting her some water wouldn't drink, could't right herself very well and passed that monday (show was on a sat), been tryign to get in contact with him every since, no way at 3 grams she was a good eater and was just a little dehydrated from a week at the shows.

Not that I'm the least bit excusing his lack of response...but couldn't you tell when you picked her up that she was exceptionally tiny? You said yourself that most newly hatched are three times bigger... :shrug01:

I think it's extremely poor business practice to dodge an unhappy customer....and he may very well have lied about the snake's history...no way to know at this point. But you also took on quite a bit of risk yourself by intentionally selecting an undersized, lethargic baby.

i have never seen a baby hognose before i had no idea, they had no babies at the show other than him, he had 3 they all looked about the same , only after i got her home and weighed her and did some research did i know about the extreme under sized issue....

i got a big male that was 65g at the show all they had were big ones, and he had 3 little ones, 2 males and a female. so i had no idea how big they were supposed to be or not.

Snakes often look big, but weigh very little, especially if they are underfed. The "heft" could've been from the substrate in the deli cup (I've noticed some breeders will use pellets, which weigh quite a bit.) You should always take them out of the cup and check them over. Of course, when you're talking about a matter of grams on a tiny hog hatchling, it can be very difficult to tell without an accurate scale, even if you're experienced with them.
I had a bad experience with another breeder at the same show, concerning western hogs, last year. We bought a pair...the breeder assured us that they were both eating f/t mouse pinks (or pinky heads). Took them home & tried to feed the male right away because he looked so tiny. Thawed him out the tiniest pinky head I could find & after he ate it, he split down his belly (about a third of his total length.) We thought for sure he was going to die...but he didn't. We still have him a year later and he can eat whole (tiny) mouse pinkies now, but still has a horrible scar. We later found out that this was due to trying to feed him while dehydrated. (Breeders who do a lot of shows will transport them without water, often not offer it before the show and often forget after the show.) The female had a bad kink in her, but she ate right away with no problems...however, a month later, she just stopped eating. I tried scenting with frogs & even offering lizard tails, but to no avail. She died. I think that her kink was so bad that, after growing for a bit, it was just too much for her.
I share this story for two reasons: 1) If you buy an animal (especially a tiny hatchling) from a show...get them setup, with a water bowl available, and let them get settled in for a few days before trying to feed. Stress is a big factor with these guys and the littler ones get more stressed than the big ones. 2) If you are a breeder...don't sell substandard animals, even for "low, low" prices...thinking that *maybe* the snake will be okay. If you hatch out a baby with a BAD kink...just do it (and your customers) the favor of putting it out of its misery!
