In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Tell me about the oldest boa constrictor you own...

I've been hearing way too many sad stories about people losing their boas early in life, lately. :(

The oldest boas I own (also the first and second ones I got) are coming up on their 11th year with me. It is a pair of both normal Columbian BCI's (not related). I bought them about a month after my 16th birthday and they are going strong and beautifully :). I expect at least 25+ years out of them (*crossing fingers*) lol.

my oldest is 23, I'll repost this photo that I took yesterday

here's a thread I wrote up about her when she turned 20:

I also have 3 boas that are turning 14 this year and I've had those since they were 4 yrs old.

Average lifespan is 20-30 years. I believe the record was a BCc (peruvian) that lived to be 41 or 42 at a zoo.

i have a 12 year old female hog island cross. She can be a little cranky, but she's the queen and will be here for the rest of her time. :)

My oldest is a seven year old. She is one of the sweetest boas in my collection and the most likely to tolerate any kind of handling. She is a bit headshy, but that is her only real fault.

I have a six year old and five year old as well.

The primary reason behind premature surprise deaths in boas, besides husbandry related problems, is overfeeding. They have a tendency to develop fatty liver disease and this, ultimately, kills them and rather abruptly I might add.

Breeding when they are too young is also a common cause of death in both males and females.

My seven year old eats once every one to three months depending on the time of the year and she is a solid, well muscled and square girl that is just pushing towards seven feet, and barely.

Someone some time ago mentioned that boas seemed to get bigger twenty years ago. It was not uncommon to see eight or even ten foot monsters, however, I believe a lot of that has to do with the feeding regimes these boas were on. A lot of the pictures I have seen of this 'Boas of Yesteryear" show obese animals. The hobby as a whole has come a long way in learning how to and how not to feed these boas. The boas that April mentioned that lived into their 40s were fed every few months as well at the zoo they lived at. I believe this contributed greatly to their longevity.

Just some food for thought.

My oldest female Chloe passed away in the winter of 2010. She was 20+ years old, blind in one eye and the largest, tamest BCI I have ever owned. Her head was almost 4'' across, basically as big as my fist. She measured 9'+ and was around 40lbs. I had a receipt from when she was purchased at a pet store in 1991, but it still didn't give me her exact age. Sorry my pictures aren't that great, I didn't get a good camera until after she passed.
