In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Temp question.... maybe serious?

Well, as many know, the nor-easter rolled through New Hampshire on Sunday night. Well, we lost power Monday, and were told that the power would be back on that early evening. So i didn't worry much as it was still warm in the house, so all would be good. Well, we ended up NOT getting heat back on, and to make a long story short, I had to get my snakes out of the house, and had to move my gravid gorl out. I put her into a nice secure bag as thats the easiest for me to keep her warm, and she stays pretty balled up alot of time, so i put her in as is, put her on some heat, and have been monitoring her. She seems fine, no problems, doesnt seem stressed. My problem is, before I was able to get her out of the house, the temps in the house did manage to hit about 60 degrees. Is that going to cause a problem, or should she be ok? Never had to worry about a big power outage before, so this is a new one by me.... needless to say, a whole house generator is in my future.... going on day #3 here....

First off - Sorry to hear that. A similar thing happened to me last October when we had the ice storm in Buffalo - I was leaving for a weekend trip but the storm hit right before we left (thankfully), and I wound up toting all of my snakes with me and kept them in my hotel.

I would imagine that she would be ok with a short dip of 60 degrees. After all, a freak storm might make temps go that low in her native habitat, so a drop like that for only a day or less should be tolerable. If her body temp got under 50, I'd be concerned. But, I haven't successfully bred my boas yet... I can't see how gravid boas in the wild wouldn't be able to withstand something like that though.

We now have a small generator, and like you plan on the whole-house thing as soon as we can afford it - just not worth it to risk all our animals! We also have a wood stove at the house, so had we needed to stay home after the October storm, we'd just need to shuffle snakes around the fire... heh.

Hope you get power back on soon.

Luckilly power came back on last night about 9pm.. so only a few days with no power. I was able to keep her warm by using a human heat pad on medium. She didn't seem to mind it much, and I was actually able to keep her body temp warm to the touch which i figure is far better than being cold to the touch. I now have her back in her cage, and she is cruising around it I would imagine enjoying the release from her rather confined 3 days in a snake bag. Hopefully the Public Service can keep our electricity up and things will get back to normal... Thanks for the reply.... it definiteyl put my mind at ease... and sorry for the last post, I was a little miffed that someone asking a question doesnt get a response where someone posting a few photos of babies end up getting 20 replies in a matter of a few hours..... funny how things work...

well one time our power went out for about 5 hours so we used the water left in our water heater and made up hot water bottles and dropped them in the tanks, it was the middle of winter and the water bottles didnt stay warm for a really long time but we managed to keep all our guys warm and only had to refill the water bottles a couple times, i dont think that would be the practical thing to do for long period of time. plus the water in the water heater will only last for so long but it definatly kept us from having to move all our animals out. so just an idea.

I actually responded, but then I refreshed and saw Laurens post. I said just about the same thing, but didn't want to regurgitate what she had just posted.
In short, sounds like you acted quick enough to prevent serious harm. You did the right things IMO.

I worry about these things a lot myself. I don't live where cold is a big problem, but have experienced brown outs in the summer, and have come close to loosing them due to heat and lack of AC.

Glad it all seems to have worked out for you. Hope all goes well with the rest of her gestation. Good luck!
