In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello I’m interested! Can you please text me at 6105640246? I’ve never gotten a reply through here before I’m not sure if this is the direct way of messaging you or not

I am no expert in this matter. Just thought to look at the CITES Trade Data Base.

CITES definitions:
"Purpose" - "T" means "for commercial trade".
"Source" - "C" means "for captive propagation" and "captive produced".
In this case, it appears captive produced T nelsoni were legally imported from Mexico to the U.S. in 2023 and 2024 for "commercial trade and captive propagation".
If interested, one can look into the Importers of record via further document review and the importer's initials.

From the CITES Trade Data Base 6/11/2026 @ 9:15 p.m. CT.

Note: I limited my CITES search to years 2023 - 2026. OP noted "long term captives" which may mean in the U.S. long term and prior year's CITES import records exist; or perhaps the pictured specimens are long term Mexican captives and part of the batches legally imported as noted by CITES during 2023 and 2024.

Martin, none of those entries show imports into the US. The 'importer' is the importing country's ISO code.

CN: China
DE: Germany
HK: Hong Kong
KR: South Korea

Any animals propagated in and exported from any of those countries to the US would need a permit from that country to the US; no such permits are on record.

Any live T. nelsoni in the US were trafficked here. Any claims to the contrary would need to be accompanied by a copy of a CITES permit -- not "evidence of legal import will be provided to buyer" or some such BS (since any buyer of these doesn't care if they're trafficked).

Anyone who can take and post a photo of a turtle can take and post a photo of the permit, and anyone with the internet skills of a 4th grader can figure out how to watermark it to avoid the "I'm not posting it since someone will use it for their own laundering purposes" fiction.

People. The trade database isn’t hard to use. It’s actually user friendly.

Terrapene nelsoni have been legally exported out of Mexico for years. Just because you don’t like it, doesn’t make it illegal.

Thanks for clarification. See - as I admitted - I'm no expert in this matter. Still, it seems to me when rare animals are offered - rather than have back and forth "he said she said" - it is helpful (and possible closure) to provide salient facts and evidence. And I did note one has to peel the onion more to get to all the facts.
I still do not know if there have "ever" been legal imports to the U.S. as I did not search the CITES data base for infinite years. Perhaps such do exist from years prior. Or perhaps from some of the listed recipient countries to the U.S. I just didn't research earlier than 2023.
I've learned more and appreciate you educating me (and others) !

Oh - I just see Erik Ivins has provided further answers and evidence. It appears from his image that there have been some legal imports to the U.S. 20 years ago. I suppose one might question the veracity of the image or other documents - but the onion is peeled more and for those interested - may be further investigated.
