In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

That's IT - I'm DONE

Steve, I don't know what you're using for your incubator, but it could be the case that some older fridge/freezers have a less than friendly plastic or foam insulation that gives off some fumes when heated (by the heat tape). Is there a strong chemical or plastic smell in there?

My converted freezer had a plastic smell to it, and I'm pretty dang anal when it comes to these guys. So just to be sure, I threw an activated carbon filter with 3 pounds of active carbon into my incubator. There is absolutely no smell in there anymore.

Hope that helps,

Jon

UGH!!!!
There WAS a smell but it is gone (or I'm used to it).
There is a foam pad to soak to keep the humidity up and the plastic viewing area. Don't know which one (or both) caused the smell but that may be the issue since the temps and humidity were constant.

Ahh.... The foam pad prolly grew a bunch of bacteria and it result prolly messed with the eggs.... Water bottles are way safer.

I already told you how sorry I was over on TFH, but I'm going to add that I REALLY hope you can figure out what's going on so you can put a stop to it and keep going without more of this heartache!

You make some beautiful babies.

You'll get it figured out.

I am really starting to think the foam pad is the culprit.
89 degrees and a damp foam pad. Who knows what is happening in there?
Plus the odd smell for about a week or so probably meant something else wasn't right.

I am so very sorry this has happened to you. Please don't give up. Maybe next year you can split your clutches. Some (your most important) clutches your tried and true way and a few clutches a new way?

Here is hope for better results.

I'm so sorry for your tough year :(

I'm having one as well, but with crested eggs. Haven't had one single baby hatch out yet, 3 have died in the eggs. Now that the fridge thing has come up, I'm going to research more into that. The mini-fridge I was using has a strange smell in it. I took the eggs out though, and will have to look into that filter. Only difference is I don't use heat, I actually cooled the fridge with ice.

Good luck on the rest of your clutches!

:( sorry to hear. The best lesser I produced this season was- can you guess- dead in egg. Lost the entire clutch. Last season- it was slugfest.

not to mention the clutch this season that died- was from the genetic banded girl I bought from you years ago. the 2 eggs that did practically go full term ( 4 died early on) the other was a perfectly reduced patterned, and completly banded normal.

hopinh you have better luck in the future- don't give up!
