    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

The ALL NEW Fauna FREE seed Gift and Exchange

HI Christina, Mike, and all--

Just a thought on shipping: plants ship best when dormant, but even things like oaks tolerate being shipped in total darkness for a few days. Just like the sagos, plant them, give them a drink of water, and get them into light when you get them. They may drop some (or all) of their leaves, but they will grow new ones.

High temps during shipping are more problematic--either during transit or due to being left in the sun on delivery. Things like "perishable" and "keep from heat and cold" on the outside of the box helps (sounds like shipping herps and fish, doesn't it?).

Thanx, that does help with shippin tips!

Mike- want a bag of leaves for the millipedes should a sapling drop them during shipping? Lol i 'd feel like poo if you got um all excited for a stick o_O lol - teasing...I really think the plants here have super powers lmao 1st few yrs we were clearing land we'd chop/grind/chainsaw/BURN - repeatedly and everything came back in weeks with avengence. If I can pack it right I think they do just fine :)

The heat thing is ok now, I am in the South and the June thru Aug months are BRUTAL heat so those would be BAD months for any live plant shipping here unless some serious precautions were taken, even then much like winter n herps, summer here would be a "wait for weather improvement" shipping availability right? I'd think an hour in the truck to pick up n send it would wilt it and a day could kill it (tho these plants survive ours summers regularly)
I don't know about 'cooling' a box, I'm well trained on heating for herps lol cooling I haven't had to do, venting I have, but I would think cold packs would be just as bad as excessive heat? I suppose it depends on the plants being shipped and their specific tolerences...

Hey Mike- I found a box that I think would work. We had a punching bag delivered and I still have the box o_O lol I took a look around and the saplings are about 3 feet high on average a few a bit taller. I'll be having at um in a day or so. I think if I wrap the roots well/bagged with a lil soil and maybe tie 4-5 saplings together to prevent them beating each other up...it'll work just fine? And the sagos will fit, but it may be cheaper to ship them seperate (sago pups are heavy so flat rate boxes are awesome for small heavy guys) I just haven't had time to figure it out that far sorry! But I will soon. I may have PM'd this but decided if others wanted to ship to each other but weren't sure how -there'd be ideas here. I was hesistant for the 1st few but I'm getting more comfy with it making sharing a whole lot easier than local pick up only.

I haven't tried "cooling" a box of plants or fish, but when I ship I usually put everything into a styro cooler, then pack that into a cardboard box with newspaper or peanuts to cushion the individual bags (fish are usually double bagged, aquatic plants usually single bagged with no water, terrestrial plants single bagged around the roots with a damp towel or two).

If you're worried about saplings shifting and breaking in the box, find a bamboo stake about the length of the tallest (from root tip to top) and tie all of the saplings to it in a couple of places. That way if anything shifts the stake will stop the live plants from hitting the ends and breaking....

Hope this helps!

Hi Zechariah--

I have plenty of creeping fig--I could send you non-rooted cuttings or I could get some rooted for you. Let me know...

For all--I have other viv/terrarium plants I could propogate if anyone is interested, ranging from the aforementioned creeping fig to ficus benjamina (limited), to angelwing begonia (huge, husky thing with pink flowers) and so on. If people are interested I can post a list. Ditto for outdoor type plants once the weather warms....
