Who here has been there? They have a strange little reptile room where either the snakes are either mostly misidentified or not labeled at all. One glaring example is that they have a large Northern Pine and it is labeled as a "bullsnake". they also have some type of hybrid corn X rat snake that is labeled "albino bullsnake".
Personally, I am glad that the Austin Zoo is there and that they are doing what they can, but you think they would at least have their animals labeled correctly. The problem is that someone might see that NPS and think that is what all bullsnakes look like. then, when they see a real bullsnake, they don't know what it is and maybe mistake it for some poisonous species.
The place is also ripe for an escape by a tiger or lion. the enclosures aren't escape proof by even the slightest of margins. They have a 15 foot chain link fence around them, and this goes for the mountain lions and leopards also. the jaguars are the only ones that have an "escape proof" enclosure.
Maybe I am over-reacting, but I would hate to see something bad come of this place.
