    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

really? I see it's heated up a bit lately~ but compared to the past I really didn't see it as being all that bad. There are always a few stirring it up~ in fact.....you just stirred it up.....

In fact~ I think I may have even been guilty of it before.....

Well my word your right!! Lets get rid of the rifraff! Lets get out our banning stick! We'll all just take turns banning whoever gets on our nerves......just be remember....you might be banned by someone else before you get your turn at the stick......

Then we can all us rifraff and all the outraged friends of the rifraff email Rich whining and complaining that we didn't get a turn at the banning stick before "Joe Schmoe" and...and...and he banned me before I could ban him!!!

Yeah~ that'll work. Who has the stick~ I'd like to go first please.
 
Well gee Bill, since you seem to know all of the riffraff, please enlighten me.

What is seen as off topic by some could be considered a natural part of a conversation by others.

Who are any of us to judge another posters motives? I may not like it, but, it is part of what makes a system such as the BOI work.
 
Like I said before "I guess its just me then" I seems that most have absolutely no problem with the way things are around here. I really didnt think I was alone on this one, apparently I was wrong, I'm over it :rolleyes: so you kids play nice now, I got to go do grown-up stuff now, by-by :)
 
It is being looked at and pondered. Bill there are those closer to your line of thinking and those that aren't. It's just a more complicated area compared to some other warning items.

Some want more guidelines then just their personal judgement, others don't. And so on with different areas within that. Just remember this is a multi-tier set-up. Some things aren't a quick fix or change.

41, 605 members > Estimate 40-50 WS Mods, 3 Super mods, 1 Webslave. It takes a bit of deliberation and then this isn't anyone's main priority in life.

I do appreciate your opinion and feedback. It would be nice to more feedback from the member base then we do. Don't let acceptance/refusal of your suggestions to give you cause to clam up though.

If you have time/desire put together some info or more black and white suggestions for everyone to consider. Some have mentioned a better term or definition of 'Off Topic'.
 
I believe that there is a handful of fauna members that only come here to play Judge and Jury, when really they have nothing to do with the thread/topic at all! there posts really have nothing to add to the topic at hand, it makes it nightmare to sift/skim through a long thread.

I believe by definition both Judge and jury do not have anything to do with the transaction being judged. If they did they really couldn't be either. There are, without question, off topic posts in the BOI as there are in every forum on the internet. I also agree there is a Jerry Springer like appeal to some. But for many it is an important tool that the reptile industry(hobby) obviously needs.

Since I am guessing you meant mods, not modes, maybe you had better PM me vs posting - if you are already hitting nerves, there is no sense making it worse.

Your use of profanity earned you warning points from me. That had nothing to do with this thread. Suggesting otherwise is acting the troll (we all know who they are, eh Bill?).

My post in the Port Credit thread about you was in direct reference to this thread. If you can't tell the difference then I doubt that you can be helped.
 
Plus that complaint didn't make since since I am one who supports a similar mindest to limiting BOI threads gone wild via off topic/derailing posts. If anything would be related to that thread that he created, it would have been a good karma award from me not retaliatory warning points.

As has been stated, it was your use of profanity that earned you the warning points, along with an apparently antagonistic PM that was sent to one of the moderators that warned you. Warnings tend to happen when one blatantly disregards the rules.

To be honest, the fauna BOI had its place in the course of time and it has served many situations that brought to light some scammers, jobbers and rip off artists.....BUT, in the past couple years especially it seriously seems to have served more of a bashing, thrashing, name calling and harassment board than anything else. To put it bluntly, the idea of a BOI is good in theory and if PROPERLY managed and closely moderated. However, in it's current state it does more harm for our hobby than any good. I've spent a great deal of time over the past few weeks reading through threads after threads and I would say without hesitation that a very SOLID 3/4 of posts and replies are utter nonsense, childish, rude and a waste of time at best. This is suppose to be productive and for the "greater good"? A board about business dealings with fellow hobbyists and businesses? How then is the intended purpose for the BOI served in light of this?... and more importantly perhaps (on many levels)....by who's standards?

im very new here and dont want to start anything so this is just a comment, but cant you just give the people that post things in the BOI you dont think belong the bad karma stuff? again, im new here and may be mistaken on how the karma thingy works since i dont have that feature, but it SEEMS like that could be one way to go.

people enjoy the drama, it's far more entertaining than useful.

i don't see why it's so difficult to keep people from posting in threads when they have nothing to do with either the accused party or the party doing the accusing.

if 2 random people are arguing on the sidewalk, do you go and stick your nose in?

why not? maybe because YOU become the bad guy all of a sudden? why can't real life apply in the BOI too?

it's simple to make it all work properly.

Some of us just want to expose people who are involved with people who ship hots illegally (and similar sorts), Ricky, especially those who refuse to do it themselves.

Say Ricky, why did you see a need to hide from your not so old ID. Don't go with the lost password excuse as they are easy to retrieve. Since both of you have IP's that localize to the same areas in Alabama something tells me you are the same person...
