In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

As all of you guys know this forum is still in it's infancy, but it is growing rapidly. With that being said, I feel that we as a group need to decide what we want this forum to be like. I am not making this a poll because I would like detailed reponses with names attached to them. It should be our goal to make this the best forum on the subject out there, not only for Rich (AKA Webslave), but so we can ALL benifit from this forum.

well...

In my views i DO NOT want this forum to end up like the leo forum on KS...all the "is sand ok to use" posts are getting under my skin, this forum seems to be a nice little retreat from all the chaos on KS, and heck, the founders of Fauna must be in all their glory to see all the members on KS flock to their forums, lol, but yeah, i dont want this forum to turn into a war zone, people..i wont mention names...>.> on KS continue to post about their personal life, and then the whole sand debate almost definatly always starts a forum flood and people continue it at the top...gets VERY annoying, so yeah, my views for this forum is that we keep it clean and have less...if no arguments

theres my 2 cents...

Dan

I just started keeping leo's within the last week, and I have to agree with Dan; I too don't want a war zone of he/said she/said BS. Thanks for starting this topic Justyn, I'll have to stop in and say Hi at the petshop.
Here is my male Las Vegas Hypo/CT, double het patternless albino from crestedgecko.

Justyn and Kelli hold the key . . .

. . . you two really set the tone, in my opinion. You have a good feel for interesting topics and you seem to "center" the rest of us from going too wild.

Set the tone early and often - keep it informative and light hearted. Nip the flame stuff quickly and it will go well.

You two are doing great - it's a breath of fresh air. The differences in the forums is striking and pleasant.

Oh yeah - one more thing - work VERY HARD on getting good interviews for our Monthly chats - that also helps in setting the tone.

Is there anyway to 'sticky' a good caresheet at the top of the forums? That would help cut down on some of the repeat posts as mentioned above. Other than that, I agree I hate to see the fighting get started, and while pictures are good, I don't want to see this as a 'pictures only' forum, as the boa forum on KS tends to be. I think Justyn and Kelli are both doing a great job with topics to discuss and would like to see that continue.

This place is great not sure what else I can say, soemthigns important is good moderation and rules. I have no suggestions as to what needed do. I stated on KS as many first for turtles and years later geckos, I can't stand KS the format sucks. The peopel seem to just be so mean there.

I believe the idea of stickying (is that a word?) a caresheet at the top of the forum is a good idea as well, that way folks with basic care questions can be refered to it and hopefully have a lot of their questions answered. I am working on a couple of basic care sheets for my site, one on leopard gecko care and one on setting up mealworm colonies, once they are complete I would be glad to have them posted here, or if someone else has a care sheet they would like to submit that is fine too.

I enjoy this forum so much (thank you Webslave!) and think for the most part the discussions we have had here have been interesting, honest and helpful. I would like to see more discussions on genetics and natural history/habitat etc. I really enjoy seeing pictures of everyone's geckos and sharing pictures of mine too. That is always fun.

The chats we have held on the first Tuesday of each month have been a lot of fun too, and Justyn and I will do our best to keep it interesting by inviting guests to come chat with us and share their knowlege, i agree that is important.

I think the important thing is to keep this place a fun place to visit, and also a place where leopard gecko keepers and breeders can have intelligent and frank discussions. So far I think we have done that pretty well, there have been some exceptions but for the most partit's been great. So keep up the good work guys!

:)

i like this forum alot, i hope it stays like it has been, good discussions from people that can give good info. also, there is somthing new here daily, notthe same old question day after day. Also i think the people here for the most part are more qualified top answer the more advanced questions since the majority of us have been around the block more than a few times.

As for the chat, one fo these days ill have to call in sick to work and join in.
The only thing i want to change about this forum is the # of good users, we need more good people posting in here, but i think the other forum has ruined it for alot of people. They saw how the other one got and think all forums are like that. I hope we can change that.

I think most everyone will agree, that it would be nice to have these care sheets (somewhere) connected to this site. But also the "regulars" will have to direct alot of these questions to those care sheets! Otherwise we'll still have all the "same-ol-same-ol" discussions and , really nothing will change. because, as we all know there is a cazillion care sheets out there, all available with the click of a key (I.E.; the vermiculite question).
Anyway, I love coming to this site, I think Im bordering on obsessed!!! But I never went to K.S., so when every one talks about it Im kinda clueless! I'v since checked it out and can't get in to the "format" (It just seems boring) (thanks RICH I love this format, very user friendly)
I think that we should address problems in the industry (shows, retail-whosale) Breeding techniqes, new products, feeders, cages etc.... Just keep the "sand" type questions for the caresheets!
And I wanted to say that you people
kelli, marcia, chad, terry, monte, robin.......and many more!
Are the reason this is such a good site!
And Rich thanks again for such a great place to learn & yes a spell checker would be nice! My spelling sucks! (I spell phonetically) [Im sure I just wasted that word]
Anyway thanks everyone, and sorry for all the bad jokes!
:D

a care sheet will be great, cant wait to see what Kelli comes up with.. i need to get a colony of mealworms going again so ill really be looking foreward to that one.
As far as the other site, it hasent been good for a few years.. and yes, there format sucks donkey.. woah, where did that come from ...
Lets just hope we get all the good people migrated over here and leave the trouble makers and the uber newbs and care sheet readers over there.

One thing you all may not realize is that I can add subforums to any forum on this site. For instance, when I get done posting this message, I will set up a subforum specifically as a Photo Gallery so we can try to keep most of the "photo only" postings all in one place. As more traffic comes here, I can also segregate this forum into multiple specific subforums that will allow people to more easily find information they are looking for, but also get them to focus their thoughts about which subtopic they want to post a question in.

To give you an idea of the structure that has worked well in my cornsnakes forum, take a look at http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums. This has been working extremely well over there.

Of course, this is all subject to approval by the people using this forum. I am always open to suggestions and will try my best to give you what you want, whenever possible.

Anyway, thanks for joining in here. Now if I could just get Connie to sit down at the keyboard.......

I like the subtopic idea. I think that would help people try to find the topics they are looking for. Oh, and i love the picture subforum. I like looking at everybodies pics and that makes it so easy to find them. Another thing i like that i've never seen before is the "users browsing this forum" at the top of the page. That is awesome that we can see who is on. I'm liking this forum more and more everytime i come to it. Keep up the good work!

THIS FORUM KICKS BUTT

(I spell phonetically) [Im sure I just wasted that word]

it means to spell words based on how they sound.

i see this forum as being THE place for gecko keepers/breeders to share knowledge in breeding, mutations, and everything involved with keeping leopard geckos.

i also agree about the care sheet idea.

also how bout a morphs subforum within the photos page.. dividing the photos into different morphs.

say i want to view pics of snows to see how my new snow (hypethetiacally, i dont have any snows) compares to other ones out there. people would (most likely) post pictures of a majority of thier geckos and upload the pictures onto the different sub catergories of the leopard gecko>photos forum and basically over time a database would form based on the many different morphs of leopard geckos.

you could have:

-hatchlings
-normals
-WTF is this?
-hypos/superhypos
-snows
-albinos (maybe even sub this out to different strains)
-pastels/rainbows
-patternless
-blizzards
-stripes
-giants
-double mutations
-triple mutations

ect... ect...

anyway...just an idea.

Overton...

ever notice how close phonetically and phenetically sound... ? you would think the word itself wouldn't be almost phonetically identical to another word.

I'm really enjoying this forum and finding it very valuable to my daily dealings w/ my leopards...REALLY hope it stays this way and/or gets even better. Thanks for everyones hard work and input.

WebSlave (or anyone else who can help)...I noticed the new subforum for pic posts...is there any way to go back and move our old "picture" threads (one's we initiated) to the new subforum? Sorry if this is explained somewhere else...I haven't searched very hard for instructions on this yet...

thanks!

Actually I moved my own photos to that Photo Gallery, but didn't want to move others in case it did not go over well. When I first set up the discussion forums on this site, I had them ALL set up like on my cornsnakes.com forums and it just didn't appear to be well received. Too many forums, too soon, I guess. But with a large amount of traffic and LOTS of information, the only way this will remain useful for people is if they can easily find the information they are looking for.

But I'm going to wait for YOU all to tell me you are ready for it. I don't want to discourage new members by making it TOO complicated in here. When that time comes, I will do my best to move all of the posts into the proper subcategories. The sooner you all decide you want this, the less work it will be for me.

But take a look at that cornsnakes.com forum first to see what I mean.

Thanks.

makes good sense

Thanks...that makes good sense. I would would enjoy the subcategories, but I can only speak for myself...seems like there may be a good bit of interest from others???

vacation

I too enjoy coming here. I think i've been here for a bit over a month and the things I learned within this short month is significantly more then what I have learned over at KS. I guess here is where more sophisticated issues and questions are presented as apposed to the 'basic' questions on KS.

I going out on a limb here, but, with so many people flocking over from ks within the past few days, yeah its expanding the community, but its making this site a bit less 'selective' I find this site to be a group of higher individuals who are well known in the field, but now, bringing in more and more less exprianced people, i think we're defeating the point. I love coming here just to read. Its getting to the point where if I don't read something I get stressed out and won't feel satisfied until I've absorbed anything. I'm a listener, more so then a talker, so coming here is like sitting in a meeting with some great people, minds and awesome geckos, just listening.

Thats just me, but I do like the site alot. and I think the direction its going in is a positive one with great results, ending in a tighter knit group.

Michael

I agree...

I had been a part of KS for about 3 years and have been visiting this site frequently for about a year or so. It is much more peaceful and more informational(is that a word?) here. I hope this forum does not change from the way it is now.

-Josh Zalabak

Rich... making the subcatergories collapseable would probably be a good idea... it would simplify the menu for the average browser. otherwise you end up with a forum listing thats the length of a football field.
